I worked at a concert in 1996, it was Frampton, Foreigner, and REO Speedwagon. I had a break so I was sitting on the edge of the stage, and didn't realize Peter was about to start his soundcheck. He walked out, and a security guy told me I had to get down and leave. Peter told him no, I could stay there. I sat right in front of him on the edge of the stage while he did his soundcheck. It was incredible.
Peter is an absolute amazing guitarist and person. I’ve seen him live a few times and he never disappoints. He’s a true legend and there will never be another! I’d love to see more of the interview!
I like that musicians like to 'talk shop' with Rick. You get to hear them talking about actual interesting things that you would never normally hear in an interview. Usually it is a question about their favorite color and if they think there will ever be world peace.
When his Double Live Album came out. That was the peak for my friend and I. Later in life, my son got tickets to a live concert, front row amazing that 2 generations were able to enjoy this man and the band at the same time. Something I will never forget. Forgot to mention, my son surprised me with the tickets, was a birthday present.
Always great to see Peter in an interview and this one is awesome. Fun story. Back around 1997 I played in a band called Killer Bee. I'm the keyboard player. We backed up Frampton at the Folkshaus in Zurich, Switzerland. We were pretty well known in that area. Had a couple of songs on the radio. When we started to play, his monitor crew decided it was time to screw up the band who had the crowd singing along. That would be us. In our monitors we'd have nothing, or just blasting kick drum, or just snare drum, or just a mess. They couldn't knock us down though. I had my own keyboard amp so they couldn't screw with that and we had all played under the worst possible conditions. We were a seasoned kick ass rock band! Too bad they tried that amateur BS. I'm pretty sure Peter Frampton had nothing to do with it.
Rick, I love your interviews! Your interviews with my ‘90s heroes are my favorite, but I’ll listen to anyone YOU have on your channel. Thanks for doing what you do!
I remember watching The Herd on tv when I was young and liked Peter Frampton's singing, I later heard a song while on a bus in London, Space Oddity, I liked the song. Later I became a David Bowie fan and discovered that he went to school with Peter Frampton. I loved Frampton Comes Alive, playing guitar along with it. Then when Bowie had Peter Frampton join him on tour I went to Luton Airport as they were to land during the early hours. Got into a security vehicle, my brother having arranged this, and was driven out to have the plane follow us back in to the stop in front of the hangers. Watched everyone come down the steps at the rear of the plane and go into customs. That was it, went into the arrivals to get a coffee and chat with my wife about this amazing night and noticed a guitar case on the floor next to a post where we were standing, it looked like a slim, headless case like the guitar Bowie used lately. Next to it, leaning against the post was Peter Frampton, wow. Stayed there listening for a time then the band had to leave. We went to say goodbye to my brother at the security gate but saw a Limo arrive at the gate, it opened and slowly it pulled out with Bowie and Coco in it, we waved, he waved and off it went. What a fantastic night.
There is no way to overestimate the exalted greatness of Sir Peter....his '76 live album alone has golden nuggets of guitar treasures that will never leave my head - his tone, his concerts and all of his other outstanding recordings - and such a humble sounding, genuine sounding fella....extremely insiring and a treasure to guitarists everywhere
@ᴍᴇꜱꜱᴀɢᴇ ᴍᴇ ᴏɴ ᴛᴇʟᴇɢʀᴀᴍ👉officialRickBeato2 Not sure if this is spam or fishing - or if this is really Rick LOL - but if it is you, Rick, you sure don't need to give me anything. BEATO, Amazing interview with 2 greats, including you and Framton. I remember when F C A came out. I bought it like everybody else, and wore the grooves out. Had many a nookie to it. Amazing.
Thank you Rick, for asking the kind of questions I would want to ask. I love PF's music and have had the great pleasure of seeing him perform live in my lifetime. His guitar soloing is brilliant.
For a guy like me who loves nerdy guitar interviews, this is heaven. Frampton is so underrated and he loves talking about every aspect of the music. Rick brings out the best in one of the all time best. This was a joy to watch and hear.
Very interesting to hear Peter go into the custom features of his LP, especially the unusual one-off pickup arrangement 🙂! On the one setting, you can hear where that extra, roaring resonance that’s such a big part of his soloing tone comes from 😁! Listen to the solos on “Do You Feel Like We Do?”, and you’ll hear this special tone that only this particular LP has - so glad The Phoenix 🔥🦢🔥 lived up to its name and was reborn 😁❤️! Rick, this was a great “get” on your part 🥇 - Frampton is always a joy to listen to, for both his knowledge and his generally positive demeanor 🙂! Peter, you’re a walking contradiction: You’re a “humble legend” 😮 - don’t ever change, man 😎❤️😁🎸! - Steve Dinges, Mesa, Arizona, U.S.A.
The Vocoder was a trademark toy for the live album, but Frampton truly comes alive on a well-strobed Gibson. Lovely to see you two getting on so well over the years.
@@martinaddison4880, good man. I'd always (falsely) believed he used a Vocoder toy, but indeed the effect employed by Talkbox does rather fit the bill more accurately. Very nice ! Had to watch the 'gifting' sequence twice. Great stuff !! Fan since Humble Pie 'Performance" in '72. Saw PF as a middle act once at Winterland then as a headliner twice, second the show for DYFLWD was taped for FCA. Also saw him at The 4th Of July (well 2nd) DOG with 'Skynyrd. All were amazing. Nice break down on the Phenix. Story behind this guitar is incredible. This made my day !!
Jon 'Jd' Dworkow and Joey Wirsing, back in 1978, when my brother was with A&M records, retrieved a stolen Les Paul guitar for him. The very next night he opened in Boston for Aerosmith. I think with the Black Beauty original wiring it was neck, midde+bridge and bridge. I think there is another wiring scheme where each pickup has its own volume and there is a master tone.
Yeah, I mean Frampton is on the money with his choice. That vocal by Gary Brooker is pretty special. There's a few Brits that can really belt it. Paul Carrack is another and he's still with us. That's someone I'd love to see Rick talk to or just talk about.
‘Lead Me to the Water’ is an amazing Gary Brooker tune. Eric is another who can really sing, his voice has aged like fine wine. The ‘Band Du Lac’ had some good numbers back in 1989, check them out.
@@OTOss8I know of Paul Carrack from being the singer in Mike + the Mechanics. Mid-to-late 80s had a couple albums with hits such as "Silent Running", "Taken In" and "Living Years". Good stuff. LOVE Paul's vocal tone.
