Just Competed recently in my first Strongman contest on August 13th, 2016 and my experience was almost exactly what you said in the video. We had sufficient time to warm up, but getting on the implements was pretty difficult so you just had to trust in your training and perform once your name was called. Strongmen/women are among some of the nicest folks I've ever met and eager to help us newbies along. I wound up battling for first and took a close second in the novice division! Open here I come! Thanks for putting out videos, they are a constant source of knowledge, motivation and a little bit of humor. I wish you and the channel a ton of success. Cheers from King George, VA. Not too far from where you're at in Maryland, maybe one day i'll get a chance to drop by your gym.
That is awesome man! I am so glad you had a positive experience! Hopefully we can get together and train sometime or at least see each other at a local competition!
He Brian maybe you can do a video about something very basic: how to hold a bar in your hand (palm/fingers etc) for presses, chin ups, rows, deadlifts etc. I never found good vids about this topic.
"Go make some friends" Bwahahaha. That made me chuckle. Awesome video Brian! Informative as always. I really think you are getting better too. The camera is really starting to love you!
Great video! I've done nothing but some very local strongman never more than like 10ppl lol but thinking about doing a real size large one and this video helped great also been cool to see your subscribers triple since I've been one congrats!
Brian, my calculated 1RM increases are usually spot on when I restest every couple cycles. Thanks to your deadlift videos, I blew it away by 50 lbs. The warm ups and cues were spot on. Do you think, in the future, you can make a similar video for back squat, strict press and bench press? You have a real knack for breaking things down.
I tried the log yesterday for the first time. Thanks for your great tutorial!^^ Together with the one of Alan Thrall I think I'll be able to manage it xD
I don't want to sound like a tool, but both the article and this video don't just pertain to a strongman competition. I personally think that people should use those tips in everyday life. I really appreciate the authenticity in your writing and in your videos. BTW, you should've punched that cricket in the face. HAHA!
Brian love your channel! Can't wait for you and Alan Thrall to do some collaborative stuff, it's thanks to him I subscribed to you. Maybe you could answer this question in a video, but how do you pronounce your last name? Or you will be always known as Brian Fromneversatedotcom in my mind. Keep up the awesome work!
I haven't competed but am planning to. However in training I work better hungry. Not starving obviously as there's no energy there but if I've eaten within a couple of hours of training, I am sluggish, tired and comfortable. Compared to if I train hungry, I'm energetic and aggressive. Maybe being hangry helps me lol. Anyone else find this?
Great video, as always. I do have a question about stone loading for guys without a gut. I bruise the crap out of my sternum when trying to stone load. I've gotten advice in the past to get a bigger chest, but there's got to be a technical solution also. Any thoughts, Brian?
Google North American strongman or united States strongman and go to the events tab. It's really not hard to find at least 1 event in your area. strongman appeals to city slickers and country bumpkins.
I'm not sure if it's just my stream but the sound is well off in this video... I fixed the issue by dropping the video quality I think the issue was my end.
That shirt makes you look fat...hahaha... just kidding, hows the weight-cut going? Face looks thinner, or maybe its the camera...hahaha. Good luck brother!
Peanut butter and honey is amazing food. I used to move furniture and eat those on my breaks. Fantastic energy boost!
Man that cricket crushed his chirp PR!
I swear the talk more when I'm talking...Disrespectful crickets
kept looking around my place trying to figure out where it was coming from. good sound quality..
Hahahaha well, that is a plus!
I dig that your stress being humble and making friends, good begets good
Totally agree Matt!

Hahaha
He Brian maybe you can do a video about something very basic: how to hold a bar in your hand (palm/fingers etc) for presses, chin ups, rows, deadlifts etc. I never found good vids about this topic.
That's a really good idea, i will add that to my list!
"Go make some friends" Bwahahaha. That made me chuckle. Awesome video Brian! Informative as always. I really think you are getting better too. The camera is really starting to love you!
Thanks so much for saying so, i really appreciate that!
Great video ...planning to dive into my first competition next year. Stay sharp ...called in a drone strike on that cricket.
Hahaha that is awesome man, you are going to do great!
I'm glad you acknowledged the damn cricket. Holy sh**, what was that dudes problem, chirping all throughout the video?!
Hahahah he is still there and made a cameo in the one I am going to put out tomorrow as well!
Great video! I've done nothing but some very local strongman never more than like 10ppl lol but thinking about doing a real size large one and this video helped great also been cool to see your subscribers triple since I've been one congrats!
You totally should man, they are the most fun you will ever have lifting heavy things!

Here is the first in the squat series: ua-cam.com/video/6pUEVQhPRhM/v-deo.html

I tried the log yesterday for the first time. Thanks for your great tutorial!^^ Together with the one of Alan Thrall I think I'll be able to manage it xD
Dude, it is an awesome movement, I am glad you found it helpful!
Started watching this video at night and I thought the cricket was at my backdoor! Was getting paranoid about it until Brian spoke up. Haha
Hey now there's a lot of good information! Thanks.
Thans man, i'm glad it was helpful!

Hahahah its "Als" pronounced balls without the B, and ruhe as in Kangaroo without the kanga
+Brian Alsruhe
Ha, great thanks!
Again, love your stuff. You are the man.
Hahaha sure thing man!

Crickets are protein. Eat it :)
If I could find him, i would!
I was enjoying the soothing cricket outside my window until the video ended.
Hahahahaha sorry man
Hey Brian! I know it's an old video but by Mike do you mean Mike who owns the garage gym outside of Elkton/Rising Sun?
Great video, as always. I do have a question about stone loading for guys without a gut. I bruise the crap out of my sternum when trying to stone load. I've gotten advice in the past to get a bigger chest, but there's got to be a technical solution also. Any thoughts, Brian?
There are definitely things you can do. I am going to cover atlas stones in an upcoming video that should help you out!
Thanks!
Sure thing man!
great video. and i dont even go to the gym
If there was a strongman competition next to my place I would considere doing it (mainly because of you) but I don't think I could find one.
StartingStrongman.com/events
Yep, that directory is where you would find out!
Google North American strongman or united States strongman and go to the events tab. It's really not hard to find at least 1 event in your area. strongman appeals to city slickers and country bumpkins.
Totally agree!
I wish it was that simple but I don't live in USA !
I hate eating while doing work. I've found that glucose tablets and carb powder/protein powder works great. fruit for thought.
Right on man, i will look into them! Thanks
I just eat sour patch watermelons and Swedish fish maybe a soft pretzel. Anything with a lot of solid food mass just sucks to eat mid competition
Yea man, a lot of guys are big fans of candy during comps
Camera gains are real
Thanks brother!
my buckey list lol
I'm not sure if it's just my stream but the sound is well off in this video... I fixed the issue by dropping the video quality I think the issue was my end.
i noticed that too, but i uped the quality to fix it. Maybe it is youtube?
I just refreshed the wind and it turned out just fine
Did you go cricket hunting after the video... that's how people go loco looking for days for the elusive cricket
Ahahaha stupid cricket!
why would i tell them my name is Brian? is that code? what if your name is Nathan?
Maybe you will place better if you tell them your name is Brian!
Me: Hello, fellow strongman competitor. My name's Brian Alsuhe.
Fellow Strongman: You know, I thought you'd be... bigger.
That shirt makes you look fat...hahaha... just kidding, hows the weight-cut going? Face looks thinner, or maybe its the camera...hahaha. Good luck brother!
Thanks for noticing man! Hahaha weight cut is going ok. Body fat is dropping but weight should start moving more in the next week or two
