      What are the rules of yoke walk? Are you allowed to drop the weight midway and then continue?

    My day is complete. My life is simple I see Brian's video, I click it, I smile, I cry, I add 30lbs to all my lifts, and then I sleep!

    B:" I will tell you what to do, when you don't have access to a yoke."
    Me:" Just take a barbell, easy."
    B:" DO NOT load up a barbell and carry it on your back!"
    Me:" Of course not, who would do that, dat shit's dangerous!" ....
    I have incorporated farmers walks with dumbells and overhead walks (whatever they are called :X) then and again and that already challanged my core real gooood - will try those barbell-chain carries! :)

      yeah man I've been doing assorted carries as finishers since watching Brian. MAJOR difference! my fave is the medium effort, medium distance, for speed. crazy good on the cardio and my calves are exploding!

      You can use most yokes as a squat rack, so it ends up being worth the cash.

      Well you are definitely getting out in front a little bit man. you may be thinking about picking the bar up instead of spreading the floor. But you are pulling Sumo and I would be lying if I said I knew much about that method. If it was conventional, I would say that your are not using your lats enough, which I think still applies, but I also think a stronger brace would keep you from breaking when you are applying force with your legs. Wish i could help more man but hopefully that points you in the right direction.

      I would have to start researching my weight class, i actually just recently cut down about 40 pounds of bodyfat and am around 180 pounds. I feel like in a tested league and weight class i could actually be pretty competitive after some solid training. Money is my biggest obstacle :'(

      patriot1028 Its meant to be! It can be pricey starting out but a lot of stuff will last you a long time. Im not sure the cost of the competitions as Im a powerlifter and meets arent that bad but a belt some good shoes and maybe sleeves or wrist wraps is really all you need. All the other stuff can come later as you continue :)

    Carries are awesome... I'm blessed to train in a gym with a 40 yard track, farmers handles and a yoke, and cursed that they constantly run aerobics type classes on the track when I train.
    If I time it just right in the weekend I can throw some carries into my squat session though. Never tried the yoke as I LOVE the farmers walks but I may try alternating a sessions of farmers and a session of yokes per week for a while.

    I dont know if you'll reply to this, but love the videos dude, i watch them all, you are probably the best strength youtuber out there! When you said that a yoke is a power rack, sled, bench and squat stand, am i just being a bit stupid? How can you use a yoke to be those things?

      Brian- not sure what weight to start these at. Been using 400 total and running them about 50 ft. Just using them as conditioning work right now but would like to see some carryover to my comp lifts- squat and deads. Also, I plan on trying an amateur strongman sometime this year and not knowing much about the sport don't know what weight they use ( 231 weight class).

    • @BrianAlsruheOfficial
      @BrianAlsruheOfficial  7 років тому +1

      Well man, though I hesitate to suggest anything because i don't know what the other demands in your program are....But the 231 class is what i compete in and i can tell you that most of the time, our yoke weights are between 700-750. Sometimes even up closer to 800 for 50-60 feet as fast as possible and top guys will get that covered in like 6-8 seconds. Some people can move with that kind of weight like there is nothing on their back!

    • @jmbeen

      Brian Alsruhe thanks for that. I'll keep working on them and adding weight each week!

    Great video as always brother. Supermaximal loading on different exercises is a great thing for basic barbell lifts or any other assistance movements, everything feels light after plus it builds tendons and ligaments as well as core and teaches the bracing under ultra heavy load. Sad thing for me is that I don't have a strongman equipment nor can I find it in near area, either to buy my own or build it.
    But my go to supermaximal weight lift is above the knee rqck pull, simmilar lift to an old school strongman move: hand & thigh lift, but little mor ROM.
    Few days ago I did 800lbs x5 and was smoked after('rack pull flu' 😂)but every other lift feels really light after that. 😅

    • @BrianAlsruheOfficial
      @BrianAlsruheOfficial  7 років тому +1

      That is awesome man and i am proud of you for finding a way to make progress! And I totally agree with you about the supermax loading!

    • @stefandrpa770
      @stefandrpa770 7 років тому

      Brian Alsruhe Thanks brother. Thats why I like strongman stuff, strength is more than just big 3, and testing it in variety of movements and with different objects should be more accurate strength scale. Plus conditioning aspect.😆

      @BrianAlsruheOfficial  7 років тому +1

      Yea man, I'll add that to the list but I honestly think Strongman is the way to go with that (or any grappling sport) because it builds your hips, posterior chain and grip/crush strength, which are all MASSIVELY important in fighting.

    I recently had the experience at comp not having my 800lbs yoke 4"-6" off the ground it made me drop it 5-6 times. Still finished 80' in 44 seconds but if I didn't drop it I know I would have done better, live and learn.

      Hahah i told you in the video I wouldn't answer that man. There are too many variables without knowing about the other demands you are putting on your CNS. Sorry man, but this one would literally be irresponsible to just throw out a cookie cutter answer.

    • @thanatology493
      @thanatology493 7 років тому

      My mistake. I thought you'd said in the video you "would" give advice on how to program this in and it slipped your mind. A rogue butterfly must've grabbed my attention away from the screen for a second. Yep, that's my excuse. Great vid regardless.

    main thing I hate about yoke is I gotta dig the ting outta the glacier I live in and I have no option but to do it on some snow/ice thats very uneven so I always have to do a low pick to get the clearance I need.

    Brian I did heavy yoke walks and have a large lump on my trap above my AC joint now. I'm not worried about it, but have you seen or heard of anything like that before? Google is returning less than adequate results. I'm guessing it's just a huge muscle knot or inflammation.

    Are these yokes the y1 or y2? I've been trying to decide if I can get away with the y1 as of course a yoke but also as a squat rack. I'm 5'10 and I see people saying if your close to 6ft then you will hit the top support

    The yoke walk is cool. My gym doesn't have any yoke rigs. 😕
    But I saw some on Rogue fitness. I think I'll buy the farmer's walk bars though. Beats doing sit-ups.

      @BrianAlsruheOfficial  7 років тому

      Yea man, that's why I showed how to make a chain yoke. And Farmer's Handles are definitely worth the buy. But sadly they work completely different things than the yoke.

      Two completely different animals man. I actually like farmer's better for performance in most things, but the weight distribution is so different that they work completely different areas in different ways. Definitely keep up with the farmer's though!

    Any thoughts on how to train for a max yoke event? I have a comp coming up where the event will be rounds of 30' yoke walk increasing by 40 lbs per round ( I assume ties will be broken by time). There are no weight classes for women, so we will all start at 360 lbs. It's one of my fave events, so I'd like to push myself on it

      Thanks man and whatever you feel the most mobile in. But I would also tell you to have some cushion because that is a literal ton per square inch. My broken foot that is still not fixed happened because I was doing zercher yoke walks in my Squat shoes. just walking literally tore the tendons right off my foot and broke 2 bones....I still need to get it fixed
