The ideas that he comes up with her absolutely amazing. I would like to see it be able to haul a roadster as well as the trailer. It would be awesome. I would love to have one of his renderings.
Chip what imagination you have glad to see you back on UA-cam. I watch you all the time and that makes me happy because you’re happy and I know you love working on cars. Wow God bless you and your family and so much more thank you that you’re back.
I had this same idea a few years back, but with an old Mack R series fitted on a light truck chassis for that slammed look, but I couldn't find anyone here in Australia to undertake the project
You have proven again, the creativity that is in your mind beyond a shadow of a doubt. I visited you shop June 5, '18 and saw some of that creativity. The Jaguar in particular, the little sanded band on the tail pipes of your '32, really trick. Looking forward to seeing the transformation of the PB.
That's a 352 Pete, the other COE ( Cab Over Engine) Pete the cab design is little different, has rectangle double head lights bothe sides . This Pete has tandem drives in the rear & a single drive is called a single screw. Even though that cab is built from alluimuim it's heavy. You're gonna have to adapt the cab pivot ( to tilt cab foward) cab locking mechanism that holds cab from flipping forward. I want send best luck in this build. I have a few of your model car & one of the pickup kits. It would be killer to come out with a model kit of it....
A no brainer Chip. Ramp truck so you can bring along a future ride that you’ve designed/logo’d some merch around and people can get photos etc. super cool idea and design for that truck as well.
I have a friend who did that with a Econoline pickup truck! He did it so that he can tow his dad's fifth wheel, and his boat behind that trailer, and still be under 65 feet overall. He bought a F-250 truck that had a fairly decent cab (sold that) and no fenders, the diesel engine was stolen, the truck was a stolen / recovered, and purchased at a junkyard. He did need the steering box and power steering pump, that was included with the donor truck frame. He cut out about 22" of length, and installed the engine in the normal location, so below the cab of the Econoline pickup. He actually added about 2 feet to the bed length. That does sound like a great project! I also know another person who completed a project while working at a custom shop, a guy bought a bran new 2002 Dodge diesel and brought in a 1930's car, had him put that body on the pickup frame, so it had modern A/C and everything inside. My suggestion is to install a ductless heat pump with the cooling coil behind the seats, and then run a 48 volt inverter, and a second alternator. Then if you decide to put on a winch, get a 48 volt model! With 6 each 8 volt batteries in series, the 165 AH can run the inverter and A/C unit for about 5 hours without needing to run the truck engine, or if you can plug into shore power, run it on 110 volts.
Another cool looking truck that I saw at a truck stop in Portland Oregon (on display there) was based on a Dodge dually truck, with 18" rims and the total look of your big rig, but on about 80% scale! A lot of custom work. Still not to difficult for a team like yours. I would start with a search for the perfect truck donor chassis, say a stolen recovered truck, and a good engine to put in it. Like a Cummins inline 6. You might consider the 17.5" commercial truck tires, they can be rated at about 4,500 pounds max, and I know a guy who can design great rims! (You). Then you can make the design look like a 80% version of the big truck. I would not really want rims larger than 19.5". And I would stay with 2 axles, not 3. Maybe some sort of air ride in the back? Or put in really weak and soft rear springs, and 5,000 pound air ride system? Then you can adjust the ride to what you want with the air ride. A panard bar, maybe 4 point to control the rear axle, with a lot of torque going to it, so the axle will not try to shift side to side. You might want to consider a newer Ford with the new V8 and 350+ HP engine. They seem to have a decent front suspension, and the rear can be beefed up for a very stiff ride while towing when you want it, and soft when you reduce the air bags to only about 25 PSI when not towing. You might want to consider a older Dodge, that does not need all those computers running inside, and no air bags to install to make everything think the air bags did not deploy in a accident. The 5.9L Dodge can be tuned to make a lot more than the factory power, see Banks for a larger turbo! Maybe even find a air cooler from a 8.3L Cummins. There should be plenty of space for a really large radiator and intercooler. Bigger is better, for less air pressure drop across the intercooler. If you only need to meet the 1995 Emissions standards, that would be easy! I have heard that the Dana rear axle, if with drum brakes, the GM brake cylinder is slightly larger diameter, and the same basic part, yet will provide more push because it is 3 MM larger diameter, and thus more braking power. Maybe you want 4 wheel disk brakes, and Ford had them in the "Super Duty" in 1990? (became the F-450 in 1996 when they started to use the 19.5" rims on the F-450 and F-550). Early Super Duty trucks used 16" rims and had the 16,500 pound GVWR. They also came with the super reliable 7.3L V8. Or you can get the rear axle from a F-450 / 550 truck and use that in whatever frame you desire.
man what a pleasure to simply watch Chip Foose draw a sketch, what a talent
