Back in the day I had both, a 85 Tri-Z and a 86 250R. I built the Tri-Z to keep-up with the 250R which was my Buddy's at the time. Kliem Research 350 Big Bore kit from California, Sleeved Cylinder, Piston, Carb and a Pipe. Had to send the cases in to be milled for the big Sleeve. Thing was a Torque Monster after that. My Buddy ended up Blowing up the 250R and I got it off him and rebuilt it and Sold the Tri-Z. I Kick myself for getting rid of either of these bikes with the Prices their getting Today!
it's funny you said that. My Z would run fine at home but on the track it never finished a race. Not always the bikes problem, I've nocked expansion chambers off, crashed, snapped axles, twisted rods and blown engines to shreds. Snapped shock shafts.. yeah.. Z was a love hate relationship. My R and 350X never let me down in 7 years of racing. I've built over 29 tri=zs in the past 7 years, my 85.5 was always the problem child,.
@@sawyercustom I must have one of those lucky ones or I’m not riding it hard enough haha. Actually a couple years back I took mine to the track and it gave up on me. Was the original top end on it. I was pretty impressed by it but was weird it decided to do that the day in front of a bunch of people.
Hey man, could you do a video talking about the elka shock upgrade please? How to source the right one.. any linkage changes.. or other tips! Love your vids
@@EkonRekon while I’m not going to endorse Elka any more due to crap customer service and parts availability. A fox, pep, or axis will have the same specs. I’ll get on that one.
@@sawyercustom I've got a 2001 raptor 660 shock that works with a longer dog bone (off a banshee) on my first build. It's nearly done. I've got two more tri z builds to do tho'. So any help on rear suspension options is greatly appreciated!!
Great video, I might have to get a tri-z to go with my 250r and tecate.
11 year old on an atc is insane🤣🤝
@@3dwezzy740 he got a bit camera shy when he saw us recording and went all mild on it. He was ripping around before that.
@@3dwezzy740 my 5 year old cruises my tri z around. Or my 350x.

Yeah those Kliem kits were nasty, I had to cut a set of t3 cases for one of his big bore kits.
250R, all day everyday.
I love my '85.
I have an 86 tri z love it. Had an 86 tecate. Hoping to find an 86 250r some day. My tri z never breaks I don’t get why people have issues with them.
