Best 2 stroke quad ever made. Rite out of the box. Bad Ass. I have an 87 250r Runs perfect.
I've owned my 87 and 89 250R's since I bought them off the showroom floor. They were kept indoors in a climate controlled room and never been put in mud or abused. Guys, please hang on to these gems. There are still plenty around to buy. My bikes will never be sold. They still look brand new aside from a few little scuffs but thats it. Respect to all 250R owners.
ATC200X Fanatic mine has sat in storage for 12 years and yesterday I pulled it out to get her back riding again . many of my friends has tried to by it from me but I'll never sale her . Long live the MX king TRX 250R

OMG I love this tribute! bought mine in 87 (white body with Blue accents) and spent countless hours creating memories that have lasted a lifetime. had to sell it in 95 :( I must get another... that tinging braaaaaaaahhhh sound from the exhaust on acceleration brings me back. Thanks for all who shared. D

Honda needs to bring it back! Fuel injected and maybe updated suspension to keep up with the four bangers! Then before riding I guarantee the forecast would be a 'full send' every time!
The Trx250r has got to be one of my most favorite quads. I'd trade my Trx450r in a heartbeat for one.
Safe to say it's my most favorite considering I finally got the chance to ride one today. Still like the 4 stroke sound over 2 strokes.

450r is slow and junk in comparison....it doesnt even make the shootoffs anymore because it cant be competitive with just exhaust and tune....it needs a full engine build to keep of with the other 450's

The best smell on earth was a 2 stroke engine burning Maxima Oil!! I use to put Maxima in my WeedEater just for the smell. It's hard to believe that it's been 30 years since production of the 250R stopped. I raced Quads for a long time and I was probably one of the only people not riding a 250R. Keep in mind this was back in the early 90's and late 80's before high compression 4 strokes were out. I raced a Banshee and I loved it. Still love it! It was harder to ride than a 250R because of it's size. So if you were going to be up front, you had to know exactly what you were doing in the turns on a Banshee. But from what I saw over the years the 250R rarely let those racing them down.
had 1987 I bought new , and 1988 I bought used 1989. the 88 was the best off the floor quad I've ever owned.

Long live the 250r!! Nothing was more fun than racing hare scrambles all over Florida on a 250r! Tried to ride the yamaha 450 when it came out but you couldn't throw it around corners like a lightweight 250. Wish I still had one.

Had a 1993 250R loved it.
modern 2 strokes with the improved designs are insanely fuel efficient and emissions compliant. KTM have the new engines. id love to see the 3 wheelers and 4 wheelers comeback.

Brian MC cullagh because yamaha came out with the banshee and decreasing sales in 250s and the death of the 3 wheeler scared the big 3 off. Yamaha was on top of the market with a 350 twin for recreational and same with the blaster at being a 200 2 stroke easier for beginners. Same with the raptor nowadays. I say yamaha has always been able to come out fine in the market. 250s 4 ever!

what's the top speed on a 250r?
Atc250r threewheelers do about 75-80. i have 5 of them not sure about the quad though
I have a 1987 (4 wheel) like the one show at 12:43 and stock it's 69 mph. Mine has been ported, K&N filter, Paul Turner Pipe, Iridium Plugs and i can do 76 at 4,000 feet above sea level. I have never been able to compete against a LTR 450, but I can match a TRX 450 with similar upgrades for top speed on sand (2 strokes do NOT accelerate like 4 strokes).

They still make them, but only the 2013/2014 models. But the TRX 450 R was only made from 2004 to 2009. From 2006 to 2014 there was the ER (electric start).

In NW Ontario we have Canadian shield........google it.......so with the terrain that providez these type of spirt bikes are pretty much useless with the one exception of pit riding.

Nice bikes, for sure. But you won't think they are all that after riding a Tecate-4. More power, better handling, and so much lighter feeling than the Trx. Even a Banshee handles better than the Trx. Of course, FINDING a Tecate-4 is a chore in itself, but worth it.

+seahawkz3 So what?! After riding Bashees for a while, I couldn't believe what a dog the 250r was when I finally rode one. Maybe it was the power (or lack thereof, lol) Front end steered so front-end heavy it was ridiculous. And this is from a Honda fan forever because I love the ATC, but I was so disappointed in the '87 that I rode. Got back on my Tecate and was happy again.

Bruh how does nobody realize that a banshee is better than this in all aspects. I don’t want to sound like a bitch but in all aspects, the banshee just outperforms the trx250 so it isn’t really true to say the 250 is the best 2 stroke of all time. The only exception might be the acceleration of the 250 being better at a lower end but the banshee will soon catch up to it since it gets much faster higher up in the rpms
