Really cool guys. I use to ride when I was a kid to well into my 20's and i remember them and remember when they we're out lawed. I busted up my shoulder riding a dirt bike and was in a hospital beed next to kid who had broke his leg riding a three-wheeler. I was never a three-wheeler guy but I never realized how cool they actually were
I applaud you for giving this bike the light it deserves. Maybe most people wont think much of it, but an 86 tri z is a one year only bike. Diffrent from the yellow and black ones. The biggesr thing being it has 6 gears instead of 5. But do with it as you will but to me the significance of these bikes come from the memories created on them. I got an 87 yz490 and am looking at getting a tri z from a friend of mine that has 3 put together and 4 of them in parts. One of the ones put together was in the magazines back in the day. Im rambleing but the point is i encourage you to ride it. You dont got to beat on it or really even race it, just take it out so people can see it, maybe do some pulls on it. The younger generation needs more of a love for these as i do so we can fight to bring them back. Im 22.
This is the coolest video ive seen in a long time. Amazing to see something like this 37 years later. Restoring and collecting these things is becoming bigger and bigger and im all for it. Cant wait to eventually get my hands on some things I need to add to my collection.
Congratulations ! It was a lifetime ago when you would visit our shop to sit on the bikes and snowmachines ... I don't think we were as careful assembling the Tri-Z's back then ! Jack @ Powercraft
Looks just like my father's to-this-day showroom mint '86 Z that i grew up riding. Only thing giving away that it's ever been touched is an aftermarket pipe and silencer.
It’s cool watching this stuff as a young guy i grew up on a ytm 225dr still got it now that I’m older and got a job seeing this make me wonder about replacing the piston rings on it and get it going again
Wow I had a tri moto z 125 back in 1982 I road the dog shit out of that bike for over ten years jumped across the street we lived on in the winter when I landed the transmission exploded on it sold for scrape in early 1990’s boy I miss that bike but not running over myself as anyone who has any seat time on one has done it once or twice
Scotty!!!!! What an amazing find!!! I can't believe you've had it in your shop for 6 years?!? What were you waiting for! Wish I still had mine.....we would be out rippin it up again 😄 At least I hope you're going to take it out..... You are going to take it out right? 😎
I absolutely love this! The fact that this machine is brand new in a crate! How amazing! I’m a tri Moto collector myself as I’m in the process of restoring my 2nd 1982 YT175! Keep these videos coming!
We got a dealer in town that set one of each model back and still has crated 350x 250r and God knows what others.a buddy of mine got a 350x and put it together out of the crate.they exist but he refuses to part with any of them
I had hand 350x back in 98. It was a pos but my buddy's an I rode the he'll outta it. I wish I had it now, I trade a dime bag of weed for it, we got it running and rode the s*** out of it and I sold it a year later for 500 bucks
I love this stuff. I love three-wheelers. Maybe I'm wrong. I am probably wrong. Lol. But the to of the forks looked like they were covered in dust when they opened the crate. How would that be possible if it was sealed for 40 years? 🤔🤨🤷
because it wasn't sealed the cardboard that normally covers the steel crate was gone so it was pretty much open to the air with a blanket thrown over it for nearly 40 years.
I hate when someone keeps something like this indoors. That tri z has 40 years of breaking collar bones to catch up with! Personally, I stay true to my Honda atc 250R, but any death machine that goes "RING A-DING-DING" is a bamf in my book. Gettin goosebumps just typing this.
@@dogsandwich77 if it’s the last brand new one on the planet once you start it it’s not brand new anymore,it’s just another used bike. I have a fully restored 86 as well but it’s not brand new
@@mikesarahmccourts6509 that's just gonna go to some collection and rot . I totally see your view on it, Id just rather know what it's like to ride a brand new one. I was 2 years old in 1986, so I kinda missed that opportunity. Money comes and goes, opportunities, specific ones, do not. Id take it to the dunes and try not to flip it. Then again, it's a Yamaha lol
@@mikesarahmccourts6509 this bike will never be started ever !! we just assembled it . Its still a brand new never run Tri-Z just now we can enjoy it and look at it fully assembled, and we were able to clean and detail it to preserve it , inflate the tires so they dont crack, it will never be more preserved than it sits right now.
@@mikepalmgren8185 good to here. I have a collection of bikes here (in Canada) I’m thinking of selling 4 85 250r’s 2 86 250r’s 1 87 TRX 250r and 2 Yamaha tri-z’s 85-86 I also have a lot of take off parts at least enough to assemble one complete 85 250r I even have take off rims and tires. If you here of anyone in the three wheeler community that’s interested
What an awesome find!! It's amazing that every few years we hear rumors of something like this, but only a few of those stories are actually true...

Awesome video and awesome Tri-Z! Cheers from the Schmeeckle Brothers crew in Northern Colorado.
Wow what an amazing find and story behind this Yamaha Tri-z 250 🙌🙌🙌.
beautiful 86. im still waiting on the day someone finds a 86,87 Tecate3 still in the crate.. talk about gold
Mike Palmgren is the only person that I would trust with something like this. What an amazing bike.

Awesome trike but rubber degrades and hardens over time, so if you want tires to work properly, they need to be new modern tires
How much $
You just clean a little dust ,what's special in buy something looks like new ?
Thats the only Yamaha I'll own.... if I'm gonna buy one it will be HONDA colors
Wow
and you didn’t start it because….. ?
I would have left it in the crate
That’s awesome ! Ride that mofo ride ride ride
It just lost half its value,it will never again be a new in the crate bike,it’s a sad day
What's sad, is that's what's important to you. Like keeping a bird in a cage.
