  • First of all, I apologize for the length of this video. Mostly I apologize to my old computer, which really didn't like dealing with a video this long. But I guess once I got out all these models and started talking about them, I had trouble keeping it brief.
This is my full Orc & Goblin Warhammer Fantasy Battles army, fully painted, about 25 years in the making. As of 8th edition it comes to over 10,000 points, not including magic items but including Dogs of War mercenary units. Technically, the Dogs of War aren't legal, but if you take those out and put in a bunch of magic items, it still gets over the 10,000 point mark.
This was my first Warhammer army, and for decades it was my exclusive wargaming force. I'll always consider myself an Orc & Goblin player first. If you have any questions, comments or concerns you can leave them below.
And for those of you who are curious, the army consists of:
    2 Orc Warbosses
    1 Orc Great Shaman
    1 Black Orc Warboss
    2 Goblin Warbosses
    1 Night Goblin Great Shaman
    1 Night Goblin Warboss
    4 Orc Big Bosses
    1 Goblin Shaman
    1 Night Goblin Shaman
    2 Goblin Big Bosses
    1 Savage Orc Shaman
    3 Orc Shamans
    2 Night Goblin Big Bosses
    1 Savage Orc Big Boss
    1 Black Orc Big Boss
    107 Orc Boyz
    25 Orc Big 'Unz
    116 Goblins
    20 Goblins Wolf Riders
    22 Orc Arrer Boyz
125 Night Goblins and 11 Fanatics
    21 Savage Orcs
    6 Forest Goblin Spider Riders
    14 Orc Boarboyz
    30 Black Orcs
    2 Goblin Wolf Chariots
30 Squigs and 21 Squig Herders
    16 Ruglud's Armored Orcs
    1 Orc Boar Chariot
    2 Goblin Spear Chukkas
    7 Savage Orc Boarboyz
    10 Squig Hoppers
    5 Snotling Bases
    3 Trolls
    3 River Trolls
    3 Stone Trolls
    1 Goblin Rock Lobba
    3 Goblin Doom Divers
    1 Giant
    1 Snotling Pump Wagon
    2 Mangler Squigs
    10 Ogres
    8 Duelists
    8 Voland's Venators
    1 Cannon
    12 Richter Krueger's Cursed Company
...and a special mention to Obediah Corpseweaver, my mercenary Dark Emissary from the old Dark Shadows global campaign. I set him up with the troops, but totally forgot to mention him. Please don't cast Fog of Death on me.

This is some massive dedication. Great paintjobs, names, conversions, etc. The whole thing oozes love and care that so few armies do nowadays.

Sorry for the delay in a response. I take a big break from the channel in October to focus on Halloween. I don’t have a painting guide as such, but generally I paint everything the same way, so any painting video I have will demonstrate what I do. It is the old way, though. It’s slow and there are more recent methods that are better in many ways, so I’m not sure I would encourage anyone to paint the way I do. I did recently set up a Discord account as DM Gashbad. I haven’t used it very much, but I imagine there’s a way to contact me through that.

Yeah, it’s nice that savage orc heroes can ride chariots again, and orcs can have bows and shields (in fact, there doesn’t seem to be a reason not to give orcs with just shields bows as well). Goblins are back to not being able to take bows and shields, which is fine. The base size for a three-wolf chariot actually got smaller for some reason. It’s Seminole Green+Midnight Blue, Seminole Green+more Midnight Blue wash, then the highlights: Seminole Green+less Midnight Blue, Seminole Green, Wedgewood Green, Wedgewood Green+Apple Green, and then Wedgewood Green+more Apple Green.

It’s always good to have Orcs & Goblins represented, but the release doesn’t affect me that much right now. I have all the unpainted O&G models I could want (for now…), and I’m still working my way through the Old World rules between other projects. And I could be wrong, but the Arcane Journal armies seem a little underwhelming. Just two lists? No ‘Ard Boyz, Savage Orc hordes, Night Goblin army, Forest Goblin throngs, pirate Orcs? The last one was unlikely, sure, but generally I always like to see more greenskins, but I don’t really feel like I need much from this release.

    I started playing/collecting in 2004 as a 14 year old.
Still doing so to this day. Still fantasy (O&G) and some 40K.
    This warms my heart :)
I remember getting the collectors guide for O&G soon after i started and seeing all those older models that you couldn' get anymore.
Reading up and hearing about their history was very interesting.
I have to say, out of all your models, i think i love your Giant the most.
Such a great conversion 'and' paint job.
I would love to hear more about the individual pieces and bits, the paint scheme and just the entire process in general :)
(i know you mentioned Stegadon, but still :p)

    • @dmgashbad4908
      @dmgashbad4908  3 роки тому +2

Sure. I pulled out the model and I guess there’s more to it than I remember. The head is covered with a Lizardman skull totem and a 40k Ork ironjaw. The back of the neck is covered by the Stegadon howda stairs.
The howda base is on the Giant’s back, and the Engine of the Gods howda crest is upside down on the Giant’s chest. Various Engine pieces were cut up to make a kind of belt on his front. Ogre gut plates were used on his shoulders and knees. His hips are armored with kite shields topped with Tomb King banner tops. I also stuck the Giant’s big stone wheel under his right arm. Lizardman and 40k Ork glyph plates run down his arms. The top of the middle thing in the Engine of the Gods sits under his left arm. The bottom of that middle thing is his belt buckle.
I added a lot of green stuff fur. For painting, the fur is brown, the skin I made a blue-gray, and the banners and scales were dark red. The gold is golden brown mixed with burnt umber, washed with burnt umber, and highlighted up by adding a very bright metallic gold.
Hope that helps. It’s been a while and clearly I forgot what all I did with that guy. Feel free to ask any more questions about the process and thanks for the comment.

      @dmgashbad4908  3 роки тому

Great question. Painting models isn’t necessarily hard. You don’t have to be an artist. There are some techniques you can learn to produce nicely painted miniatures with only a bit of skill and effort. But... you could also spend a lot more time and effort using old laborious techniques, which is what I do because I am stubborn and old and unwilling to change. So are they hard to paint? Yes, but they don’t have to be.

Mr. Gashbad, have you heard about the base size increase in The Old World and what are your thoughts? Was once again admiring some stuff here and thinking of looting some ideas and got to think about that..
I hate the idea of these wonderful models being torn up and rebased.. I myself will use some kind of spacer trays I guess.. As i very recently painted my growing horde.. can´t destroy those bases.. And i actually want backward compability with 6th Ed, 8th Ed etc..
Just curious if you have given it any thoughts.

    • @dmgashbad4908
      @dmgashbad4908  Рік тому +1

I have been thinking about it. Briefly, like you, I’m not very enthusiastic about the change. I’m not rebasing my army, that’s for sure. If it turns out The Old World is a good game, I like the idea of plastic or 3d printed inserts to make the base footprint the right size. I would still have a problem making my unit filler bases the right size.
My only real problem is that with larger bases I think GW would have a lot of temptation to engage in scale creep. I really want to have access to cool fantasy models again. The Shadespire, Warcry and AoS models are ridiculously large, and are often unusable in WFB. They say Old World will be the same scale, but since they had pretty loose scale consistency even in the old days, it’s hard to trust them.

    • @ja37d-34
      @ja37d-34 Рік тому

@@dmgashbad4908 Yeah, probably the best, right? Especially for the backwards compability.
I did not even think about unit fillers.. Really annoying having to make unique trays for all units..
Good point, IF it is a good game.. ;)
I have not really looked on any newer models in person but had that feeling about scale-creep.
I missed alot of stuff for O&Gs from 7th-8th Ed so hope some of what I "need" is coming back. Like Boar Boyz too.
