  • The Little Wonder Edger is from 1997, you can get that information from the model, serial, code off the engine block. The McLane is from 2008. You can also tell they are a bit older since they are L head engines and not OHV. Also the Little Wonder uses a pulse jet carb which is an older design from the L head engines. The newer L head Briggs engines use a gravity fed carb with a plastic fuel tank.
Overall the Little Wonder is a heavier duty unit however I like the McLane better because of the price point and ergonomics. You'll notice Little Wonders are commonly rental units, they are built to last.

Not sure where you shop but parts for the Little Wonder are simple to find. I dont own one but I service my neighbors when needed. Blade and mudflap were just replaced found on internet delivered to my house in 3 days.

ive owned a mclane for over 30 years!!!! That exact one!! granted i dont do commercial work, but the only thing ive ever done to it major if you can call it that is replace the bearing, and that was last year. The belt ive replaced once 10 or 15 years ago. I hope i didn't jinx my self now but that machine is a champ. Cant say anything about the other brands since ive never needed another edger.

The double belt makes all the dif in the world. I use the edger professionally and extremely rough on them. The only edger that outdoes the pair is the Tanaka with enclosed shaft drive, no belts.

McLane is the standard which ALL OTHERS are judged. Just like you did in your video. I would love to see one that is actually worn out. Every one I've seen used looked great as they see less hours than mowers do. Most are dirty carbs people can't get running and push to the curb. LOVE those dirty carbs..... LOL That same McLane edger recipe has been around for decades and not changed. Why because it works. Tough simple reliable machines. McLane all the way.
