I agree to edge last but.. I must admit, I do it first because..I know if I don’t, then I’ll mow and just go back in the house 😂
Haha for some, edging is not their favorite thing to do. I usually mow first then edge, trim, leaf blow, and wrap up by cleaning my equipment. I know you love your reel mowing. Bet you can cut it so short you don’t even need to edge.
Lmbo
What do you use for a guide? My electric one had a guide to set the depth Seems to me without a blade guide you'd have the tendency to run off
I've had a Troy-Bilt 554 walk-behind for 15 years now. It makes short work of the job and always gives me a nice, tight 90 degree edge. The curb wheel feature also makes it super easy to the street side. I do the edging every other week, which means the mess is always small enough to get picked up by the mower. It's super easy and I get tons of compliments.
Awesome Joe thanks for watching
This was helpful and I am enjoying your energy. Thanks.
Awesome Will! Thanks for checking out the channel! 👍
I don't do much edging anymore. An 8" braided wire wheel digs a deep trench for a much better long lasting job. Helps irrigation, erosion, and helps in keeping turf low. First use mower set low on edging to lower grass cleanup, then use the wirewheel to pull out the dirt.
Thanks for sharing Clare! Good tips here
I love "playing mind games with the neighbors"
It’s a weekly thing I do with them! 😉👍 no neighbor is safe from my craziness! Lol
Greetings,
Just purchased an Earthquake 79cc edger from Home Depot about $400. Still learning. Almost as good as yours.
Thanks for the tips.

Awesome Vinny! You’ll have some fun with that! Thanks for your service!
I had thought about one of those walk behinds but i dont need another big machine in the garage. The echo straight shaft hangs on the wall. Of course if someone gave me one id probably skip the stick edger. Its just a lot easier than wheeling out a big old edger
Thanks for sharing E150
That is a point I’ve had to make peace with since I started trucking. Uncontrollable circumstances. Some weeks flow so smoothly. It’s hardly work and others are just torturous.
Thanks for sharing!
@@GarageGear lol. How embarrassing!! UA-cam must have continued to the next video while I was commenting on a truck video.
This is, hands down, the BEST video about gas-powered edgers. I learned a lot. Thanks for uploading. CHEERS!
Thanks for the positive feedback ojars! I appreciate it! 👍👍👍thanks for watching!
Another great informative video! I don’t have a concrete sidewalks or driveway so I a dedicated edger wouldn’t make sense but found the info on the Predator engine useful. BTW were do you live? I’m in Syracuse and we have been drowned in rain the last week.
Thanks David! The predator is AWESOME! Works very well! Plenty of power for this edger and fit right on! I’m in Lancaster right outside of Buffalo. The lake kinda shields my area in the summer from some rain storms(a meteorologist told me that) north and south of us are getting all the rain. We’ve only gotten a half inch in the past 5-6 weeks. Got a storm tonight though and possibly tomorrow to. Thanks for watching David!
Oh very nice tips! I believe I’ll buy that and surprise my boyfriend with it since he always struggles with the edging of our front yard. Plus I like a pretty yard and DO compliment ppl that have one like yours! Beautiful yard JB!
Thanks a lot MultiBabey! Good to hear from you again! I appreciate the positive feedback! If you can grab him one of those edgers, he will be a VERY happy man! Those edgers really do a great job on the lawn! Thanks for being an awesome fan!
the string trim method is usually a disater even when done by most "pro landscapers" Ive seen so many so called pro scalp and burn many lawns on the block.
Yep they destroyed a few lawns in my neighborhood!
Nice job JB!
Thanks a lot Whitie!!! How you been bud? Haven’t heard from you in a while!
@@GarageGear things are going well. Getting closer to getting back to normal.
@@whitieinvermont good to hear my friend! Got plenty more content coming your way this summer!
Another great vid, I need neighbors like yours (willing to give me some free equipment) Ha!
He had two other edgers too! Nice guy!
How does a walk behind do when dealing with curves?
Tight curves no. I will be difficult to steer it. Gentle curves are fine. If your curves are tight you may want to use a stick edger or string trimmer! 👍
Yes sir perfect 💯
👍. What type of oil should I use I have the exact edger ??
I use 5w30 full synthetic in this machine! Thanks for watching eastside
@@GarageGear yes sir keep pushing great videos
@@eastside_slim2603 will do
You make a good point but I always edge before I mow because I'll toss the clumps etc into the lawn and let the mower take care of cleanup
Hey Chicago thanks for sharing
Great channel! Do you edge the curb with string trimmer?
Hey Adam! I did but I recently picked up a new Mclane edger that can hit the curbs! We’ll see how it does this season! Stay tuned! Thanks for watching’
I had to change the engine on my craftsman edger in I put the same 3hp engine u put on
Hey Gipp! They’re the best aren’t they? Mines been running great for many years now! Thanks for watching!
@@GarageGear yes they are great I just replaced mine in February in it going good
@@GippFloridaBoi awesome my friend. You’ll get plenty of years out of it!
@@GarageGear yup I will
Cool video! I got a kick out of your presentation style - nice! 😎😁👍
I see your point about edging after mowing, however when I mow, I typically mow along the edges so I'm not constantly running over the edge of the lawn when mowing back and forth.
I prefer to edge first, then mow so that the mower picks up/cleans up the loose grass edgings that I blow into the yard with the leaf blower.
I just recently purchased a Troy Built TB550 walk behind gas edger, ( previously used an edger attachment for my Echo PAS 225 weed eater, ) but like your place, I have long edges beside the driveway, curb and sidewalk, so now the walk behind edger is my best-of-best bud! 😎
Hey Steve! Appreciate your positive feedback! Yeah for long edges walk behind models are the way to go. Thanks for sharing and watching!👍👍
Nice work! Just be sure to keep your oil drain tube above your engine oil level just incase the drain bolt loosens or leaks so never any chance of losing oil.
Thanks for sharing!
Where you based mate i am in the uk...that weather looks lovely
I’m in Buffalo New York! Thanks for watching from across the pond!
JB Have you ever used a 3 blade edger blade, I purchased a walk behind edger quite a few years ago, haven’t used it but will be used this spring and summer
Hey William, my edger came with a 3 blade blade but it was beaten up. I used it for a short time and then swapped it! I had a stack of standard blades and never looked back so to speak lol. It worked fine for me when I used it. No incredible difference though. Thanks for watching my friend!
Neighbors who edge are hard to find. =)
Got that right! There’s only a handful in my neighborhood. Thanks for watching Jason!
Neighbours who edge their neighbours are even harder to find...I do the single mom's next door along with her lawn and SHE loves getting compliments on it...
I’m going to ask my husband to get one of these
AWESOME! He will love it! Thank you for watching!!!
Sorry your husband said no
00:52 when it goes into this state, watering does not help. Gotta keep raising the mower up higher.
Thanks for sharing
side note. Granular or liquid fert?
Hey Chris! I mainly use granular fert! But have been experimenting with some liquids!
Sorry, you spoke fast! What’s the name and model of that edger?
Hey bvang! This is an old TRAILMATE edger from the 70’s I believe. Old but great! You can usually find them on Craigslist or fb marketplace!
How can we use a WALK BEHIND EDGER to edge the curve, sir?
If it’s a gentle curve you can do it with the machine. If it’s a tight turn, you have to use a straight trimmer. Good luck with the edge.
@@GarageGear Thank you so much for your answer!
I lift up the rear wheels to go around a curve and usually reduce the blade depth one notch. I have a McLane edger I bought new almost 50 years ago. I change the blade usually 2 or 3 times during the mowing season.

I need new neighbors! 😂
Haha bad edging on their properties?
@@GarageGear no, I just want neighbors that give me their old lawn equipment! LOL
@@BigDaddysGarage oh I see lol! I got lucky with my neighbor giving me his old one! I think he had three at the time. And he doesn’t have the much to edge🤔
Stick edger > that outdated thing
Depends on how much edging you have
@@GarageGear Time is money, walk behinds are too slow.
You really only have to use it once to establish the edge and then can easily maintain the edge with a string trimmer
@@JordanP6885 Yea agreed, I use a stick edger in the beginning of the season then maintain it with string.
