I put a diamond blade on my Mclane edger and had a buddy keep it wet with the hose, and used it to cut concrete. The engine is the 2 hp Briggs and it worked. These edges are durable. Good video. Didn't know they now use Honda motors on the Mclane edges.
Thanks for sharing this M! Pretty cool it cut concrete lol! Thanks for watching!
Okay now your talkin' this McLane edger reminds me of the heavy duty equipment small companies built in the Midwest that would run for decades with regular maintenance. High initial cost, then could be handed down.
Spot on gpal! This is definitely a machine that gets handed down through the generations! Thanks for watching bud
I’ve got a 1980s era John Deere edger and interestingly enough it has all of the features this Mclane does. It also has one of those 3 hp Briggs engines on it.
Wow that’s cool! I hardly ever see those! Kinda rare nowadays. Very cool that you have one! 👍
Great video! But I'm not completely sold, because I'm a newbie. Can you make a video comparing a string trimmer finish with the finish of this edger? What can be accomplished, ease of use, different looks, different edges, different curbs and so on?
Love your videos, as I've said before 😋❤
I’ll see what I can put together chris! Thanks for watching as always!
The best way to kick off a weekend. A bit of a chuckle, a lot of valuable information, shared wisdom. All from a man who knows it is called "pop" and not "soda". All set in the cleanest garage setting I have ever witnessed. Anybody who gets to call you a friend in real life JB is a blessed friend in deed. I think I smell a new edger in my not too distant future.
Joe my man you are a heck of a guy! I appreciate you and your positive feedback! Thanks for being an awesome fan my friend!
Congratulations on 58k subscribers JB. 🎉Waiting for some rain here in Vermont. After waiting forever for the ground temperature to stay above 55 to 65 degrees to put my grass seed down. We were supposed to get rain yesterday, but that never happened. Hopefully, the birds won't eat my grass seed before it rains. Hope you and Mrs Garage Gear are enjoying your summer.
Appreciate you WHITIE!!! Hasn’t rained here in a month so I know how you’re feeling! We’ll be enjoying our summer in two more weeks when school lets out! You enjoying your summer so far?
My dad has one like this he's been using for over 40 years. It has a briggs and straton motor. It also has an attachment that allows you to use it to trim at the curb - 2 wheels drop down to make up the height.
Awesome my friend! Those older ones are built very well!
I noticed the cutting blade is on the left side of the edger, which is fine for the left side of my lawn. I'm right handed too, so is there a right handed model so I can finish my lawn up? Oh yeah, before I forget .......Thanks.
Looks like only the left side of your lawn is getting the love with this edger Space Cadet! Not sure how this comment snuck past me. What’s new with you lately? Conquering the world?
👉Here is a LINK to the MCLANE EDGER used in this video! (Briggs Version!) Thank you for supporting the channel! 👍 amzn.to/43GdzJb
Not the same, this is b&s motor, with Honda engine it's like 300$ more
@@cdarling71 they don’t sell the Honda version on Amazon. You’ll need to go to the website for that one.
Super appreciate the video on the edger! A huge question? Does that engine still have an oil drain plug?
If it does it's on my must buy list! 😁
Hey vultain! It’s actually got two! One on the front and one on the back. I used the one on the backside. You won’t be disappointed with this bad boy!
Oh man I really like that machine JB! It might be easier on my shoulders that the Ego battery edger. Can you do around landscaping curbing with that? Maybe I can get a demo? Great video as always! Cheers buddy!
Hey Jay!!! It’s definitely a nice machine! I would imagine you could do around some landscaping with it. Didn’t see anything in the instructions for it though. Where there is a will there is a way. We’ll have to get you over for a demo sometime! 👍
Sounds good JB! Can show you my new ride.
@@jaybooth4815 what did you get? Thought you had a newer telluride?
Yeah the lease was getting close so I got a Genesis GV80. It's sweet!
Awesome video always good details
Appreciate you glitch! Anything new going on in the garage this week?
As I posted b4 I love this machine maybe not for your avg homeowner or someone with a small lawn or a lot of tight spaces but for contractors or large jobs it's great! curbs can be tricky but gets easier with experience.. I do also like the Power Trim 308H Edger the large single front wheel does give you more balance & control on curbs but the McLane still my 1st choice 👍
I would agree James! Definitely overkill for a smaller lawn! I’ll be trying out other edgers here on the channel in the future! 👍
Can you use this to bed edge define and/or redefine/maintain?
I suppose you could but it doesn’t say anything about that in the manual! Thanks for watching Shane!
Yes you can. It takes a little practice because the wheels ride on grass and not concrete so you have to really watch where that blade is going. I generally lift up the back wheels so I can keep it steering in the right spot as I go over the uneven grass. It makes a very nice clean cut edge.
@de362 My father has one, and I've used it to edge his long driveway.
I had an ariens one just like yours. I bet McLane built it for them as it was identical.
Loved it, but I don't have enough edges to justify keeping such a tool.
A multi-tool edger works fine for my needs.
Hey Jamy if you have only a little edging to do then you have the right tool! If you have a lot of edging like me this is definitely a tool to consider! 👍
Quality machine right there 👍
💯 agree Smallblock! One thing I forgot to mention it gets the job done just a little quicker than my last one. That’s a lot of time saved over time ya know!👍👍
I was given one of these. It has blade mechanism issues, I’m going to have to take a look at it and try and figure out what’s going on. It probably also could use a tune up even though it still starts
Great machine if you can get her going! 👍👍
@@GarageGear we will give it a shot lol
Outstanding video! Voted up and subscribed.
Appreciate you web! Thanks for being a cool fan!
I saw you at Kiwanis park last summer
Very cool my friend! Did you see the logo on the truck or something? That’s the garage gal’s favorite local bike ride!
I bought a McLane Edger with a blown engine for $40 I went to Harbour Freight and purchased a 3hp Predator for $99 dollars and its been a workhorse of mine on larger lawns. This Summer though I noticed the cutterhead for the blade the threads are starting to strip. I guess I will spend another $68 dollars on the cutterhead and keep on using it for large jobs.
Sounds like you’re getting your money’s worth out of it! Great investment! You’ll get your money on it if you ever decide to sell it! I would keep it though! Great machine!
Thats a nice machine.
It’s my new favorite toy in the garage SVW! Thanks for watching my friend!
I just ordered one.
You won’t be disappointed my friend! 👍
I was waiting for today's video to have breakfast watching it. Thank J.B.
That’s awesome Eddie! It’s like Saturday morning cartoons when we were kids lol! Thanks for being an awesome fan!
@@GarageGear 😂😂 Yesss!
Nice looking machine!
It’s an absolute animal! 👍👍
Drinking my morning coffee watching your video. Great looking machine 🙏👍🙏👍
Good morning electro!!! This machine has only been a here a few months but has already earned its place in the garage! 👍
All I can think of is Tim the tool man Taylor going ho ho ho ho
Hey Drtollz! I think that grunt may have to make a comeback! 🤔 I do it when I’m not on camera anyways lol
I never stopped doing it either 😂
3:17 that would be a problem for me. 3:34 another problem for me. As always a good review.
Got to point it all out right? Thanks for watching Gregory!
My favorite
They ROCK! Thanks for watching prince!
I love mine it a pass down 1990 b&s engine
Keep that baby around Clayton! Never let her go lol! Thanks for sharing
These look like good machines but won't work well on asphalt driveways like I have.
Black top is tough on any edger! Do you have sidewalks?
i remember these in the early 90s
The old ones were awesome too! 👍
Why does Mclane website not answer their email inquiries? I'm trying to find a manual for this particular model, and with this engine. Any idea?
Hey playday they may not have the manual online. They don’t have the best customer service.
Thank you for the review. I do wish you had discussed the usefulness (or not) of the horizontal cutting feature.
There's a reason they call Brigs and Stratton engines a BS engine.
Sure is!
I woke up and the first thing i thought was "time to watch jb!!!" Thanks again for a great video!!!
You got it Bentley! You ROCK my friend!!
I have a yard force edger thats a pain in my ass to start, no primer bulb.... Any tips?
I would give the carb a look and possibly clean it. Cleaning or replacing the spark plug could help too!
For a $1000 it should have electric start.
Maybe but I’m not sure how they would link it to those commercial Honda engines.
I was wondering how your McClane edger was working-out 4 u !
Hey yale!! Not sure how your comment got past me! The Mclane has been great! Love this thing. One thing I forgot to add was that this unit actually gets the whole job done a little quicker. Every week I’m done 1-3 minutes quicker than my last unit. So I’m saving time! Win! 👍how’s things with you?
Great 👍 JB, but my ( and everyone else's) lawn is completely burn't-up from no rain, need to do a rain dance!!
@@yalerich7417 oh I know it! I’ve been watering a lot! We need rain bad! We only got .49 inches by me in the last 5 weeks! Crazy!
Link is for plastic wheel model with BS engine.
Hey marsh! They don’t sell the Honda version on Amazon. This is the base model!
@@GarageGear gotcha.
Great video. Next purchase. Went all electric edger, trimmer, and blower. Have regrets now. Awesome video
Thanks Ed! This thing is overbuilt but will last half a century or more. Is the electric edger not getting the job done for you?
@@GarageGear in my mind no. In reality yes. While I have a decent amount of edging. The electric is pushing the limits (ie batteries go dead). The edger is over kill given my needs; however I could easily justify the purchase since it will likely out live me. Plus there is nothing like the smell of gasoline and that sweet carbon monoxide exhaust. Electric just can’t compete
@@edrumsas5420 interesting Ed! Thanks for sharing this! I like hearing what people are actually experiencing with their equipment. Especially battery equipment since it’s so new. Thanks my friend! You wouldn’t be upset owning one of these bad boys! 👍
I mean, I like that edger A LOT...but it kinda seems like overkill, especially considering the price. Maybe that's just me...
(Edger? I don't even know her! OH!)
Hahahah you’re my weekly dose of humor mace! 👍 this edger is without a doubt overkill! I like all my equipment to be over built! I’ve been saving up for this bad boy! No question she’ll be around for many years! What’s the plan for the weekend bud?
@@GarageGear Trying to repair some bare spots in my lawn! Long story. Have a good one, JB!
@@The_Mace got it my friend ! Have a good week!
Unfortunately, the Amazon link you provide is going to one of these with a Briggs & Strat engine . . . NOT even in the same Universe as a Honda GX, but they don't mind keeping the price sky high. That is a Bad Link to be pushing, I think.
The Honda model isn’t available on Amazon. You’ll have to go to their website.
I bought one recently for 35$ it had a gad four bad gaskets and throttle cable was broke. Now its fixed and runs great.
Awesome my friend! What a deal! 👍
Edger giveaway!
Edger guveaway!!
Edger giveaway!!!
Not this bad boy! Perhaps in the future though! 👍
Have one edge where it is very tall ahould ir be beveled so it doesnt look like a wall along the sidewalk?
You could try rolling it to press it down!
I'd never buy it because it doesn't have a metal edge guide to keep you close to the concrete. Also, don't like the straight blade, why not 3 paddles ?
Thanks for sharing. You can buy a three paddle blade for it.
