- Robb at Thak ironworks reached out and asked if I wanted to participate in his 2020 chess set challenge, making a pawn for him. My brain started to spin and after a couple of days work I came up with this creature!

The thing I love about your videos is that you present blacksmithing as a calm and almost relaxing thing and that you never get into a hurry with it.
also love that you do cute stuff like this!
Thank you Kimmy!
@@torbjornahman thank you!
WOW, actually you dont have to thank us for watching but we have to thank you for the talented hands you have 👍
YOU ARE CORRECT SIR!
robert griffin thank you sir
Yep.
The expression on that tortoise's face is perfect. Well done.
Really incredible artistry, as always. Love it.
Thanks!
Thunder Bear never disappoints! Master blacksmith and phenomenal artist rolled into one! Awesome as usual!
Did you know? Those lumps on the shell of turtles are not natural, but instead they are formed due to lack of nutrients on their nutrition. When the animal is healthy, the shell is smooth. The lumps can't be undone, though, even when the nutrition is corrected.
Amazing work!
Truly exquisite Torbjorn. This is perhaps your finest work, hand and eye in near perfect coordination. This little tortoise has life.
I cannot tell the tale of how the tortoise lost it's tail...........Old Viking Proverb.........Great Job
Exactly, thanks!
Don’t know which I enjoy more. The making of the functional pieces or the artistic pieces.
Next, a full sized, 150yr old Galapagos tortoise for a lawn ornament.
The kids would love it!
You're a totally artist. Greetings from Costa Rica 🇨🇷
There is one old russian proverb. It says, that every human is a blacksmith of his own happiness, and if he wants to be happy, he must forge it for himself.
You are true blacksmith of your own life in every aspect! I highly admire that!
Thank you!!
That simple hardy hole clamp you were using while making the eyes was brilliant.
If it were on a Paul Sellers woodwork bench, he’d call it a dog
Not just blacksmithing, an artist is what he is, nice job, Torbjörn
Wow, that is truly wonderful. What an artist.
The cat eye punch makes an excellent tortoise eye punch!
I would be delighted if I could inspire someone with my work like you inspire me to start blacksmithing
Nice, thank you!
@@torbjornahman Cheers mate. I'm watching your vids with my kid, 4.5yrs old, here in Serbia
You been taking lessons from ‘this old Tony’. Seeing that hammer hit at the start looked like his way too. Awesome build to watch and learn from.
Turned out great. You're more than a blacksmith, you're an artist.
What observation in every detail. You are a true artist.
Beautiful work as always. My grandmother loved tortoises and had an enclosure for her 12 rescued tortoises. In some summers the tortoises had a small laid with 2 to 3 eggs. And the baby tortoises were eating on the breakfast table their salad leaves. Just a gorgeous picture in my mind. Thank you for bring these memories up. My grandmother would have loved on of these figures.
Cheers from Germany.
Oh wow, how cool! Thanks
And that's just a pawn... I can't begin to imagine the size of the whole set and the sophistication of the more important chess pieces! Stunning work and display of blacksmithing knowledge, mr. Thunderbear!
the pawn is the most important piece.
@@SuperAWaC I wasn't talking about the deeper meaning of every piece and how a simple pawn is important. I meant that pawns are less complicated VISUALLY than for instance a bishop and you know that ;)
@@baphoreart7573 a bishop is just a pawn with a funky hat
@@SuperAWaC Well, in a standard chess set, that's completely right. But we're not talking here about standard chess set are we now? Personally I didn't come here to talk about that, if I wanted to I'd go to a video about normal chess ;) I'm here to see a blacksmith at work, and I'm looking forward to see the next artistic interpretations of the rest of the chess pieces and how they will portray they in a way to show their "rank"
THAK asked for pawns no more than 2 by 2 inches. But this piece would be an add on. They said if they got more than 16 pawn pieces, they would work then in some way.
The attention to detail is amazing
Great work, that turtle is beautiful
🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢 Exquisite tortoise pawn! She looks as if she's walking.
Great imagination- scratch built turtle- no drawings to guide the construction. Truly an artist.
Amazing details from an incredible craftsman.
Absolutely wonderful work as always, you never disappoint, well done
Thank you so much!
Keep the projects coming. Truly enjoy watching you work and hearing your hammer strike.
Ooooh my goodness! That is an amazing piece of artistry and craft! Loved the process for making the upper shell, and the hidden plug weld was genius!
Nice tortoise, love the construction method :-)
Nice! Cool to see Thak getting some exposure, he's great
Favorite project so far! More art please!
Such a precision is out of mind! Perfect job! Look alive!
Приятная безделушка ... Руки в правильном месте приварены! ))
Amazing work great job👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
No plans? Just steel and imagination? WOW! I'm seriously impressed. Already knew you were skilled/talented, but WOW!
Thank you!
Please keep making awesome creatures!! Your attention to detail I find absolutely fascinating!
Каждый раз, когда приезжаю на обед из своей кузницы, смотрю твои видео! Браво!
What a cute little thing !
Beautiful work. The step by step process helps people understand how you see the project. Really great job!
I continue to be amazed at your artistry! Thank you for sharing it with us.
I want see all practice ones, You know there's a family of them out there. great work T.A
LOL a small family of “mis-hit turtles”? 🐢
Every single one is probably cute too.
I call them sketches in iron , I have a whole pile of ugly hummingbirds. ......plug weld is an artist best friend. Great work sir
Это шедевр, как и все что Вы делаете!
Really enjoy seeing blacksmithing that's not just making hammers, tongs and punches. Love all your videos. Thanks for sharing.
Truly a fantastic artist. Just doing what he loves! Great
Beautiful! This is the nicest piece of blacksmithing art I've ever seen, no kidding.
And way too good to be just a pawn. From the video title I was guessing it would be a rook, since tortoises are kind of castle-like.
Thank you!
It would be really cool to have a whole set of those in different poses.
Amazing details. That is the most badass tortoise I've seen in a long time.
Shell Yeah!
Beautiful professional work as always!
Torbijorn. you"re the man
Excellent as always. Particularly liked the detailing on the tortoise shell. Keep up the good work!
The thumbnail shows us the beauty of the piece, truly beautiful. So why do we watch? Real beauty is in the process and work of a master. Thank you Torbjörn!🙏🙏
Thank you!
I want to buy one of these turtles.
Круто!
Beautiful piece! Your creativity and attention to detail is amazing, a true craftsman. Thank you for sharing.
A true artist. This is my favorite video.
Thank you Tom!
lol I love 🐢!!!
wat a nice tortoise, and where is he looking for
A new project???
greetings from the Netherlands
Where art and craft meet. A real beauty, Torbjörn !
Incredible. The detail you put into the turtle shell was beautiful. Well done. You are a master blacksmith. A true craftsman.
What a cute little beastie! Well done. I've been following Thak's chess set challenge with great interest and it's great to see you participate. This kind of sculpting work is a discipline of its own, isn't it?
Absolutely! Thanks
I just love "This old tony" matter handling style.
What a display of craftmanship. They eye for detail is amazing. I love to see you work especially with these kind of details. Great job 👍👍
What a lovely piece. I love your artistry and your sense of humour.
Cuuute 🥰. But You wearing a glove next to the drill bit gives me the creeps. I saw one skinned finger resulting of this. One too many... 🤢
I really enjoyed this video, it was so cool to see this tortoise emerge from that steel! You are a true forge artist .
Thank you very much!
The things that come out of your spinning brain are just beyond wonderful. Metal must feel glee at the shapes you grant it.
This one of the neatest things I've seen in a long time. You put the tist in the art with this one...................
Literally the most amazing to date you have created! The detail is amazing! You sir, are a master craftsman
Wow, thank you!
Wow. Trodde att jag fuskade när jag använde oxy-acetylen och en MIG/MAG svets. Men om Torbjörn gör det så kan jag. Fullständigt älskar din "tortoise"! Fantastisk kreation.
I loved thee shell! When he first was roughing it in, I thought that I looked pretty good. Oh boy was I continually amazed by the extra details that he put in to make it look so much more real and amazing. Great work!
Thank you Matt!
This is going to be one awesome Chess set !
Thanks for the link to thak ironworks - another truly gifted Blacksmith !
Torbjörn ,I just want you to know that your videos have helped me to re - focus on my own projects , Sometimes i have stalled on a project and lost interest but watching your videos has re - inspired me and i have forged on (pun intended ) and finished the project - thank you !

Your work is so clean. Reminds me every time I watch to take my time and make it correct. Inspiring.
Yes, this is the real art and the music clip when you show the turtle made me feel the luxury of what you made, man ❤️❤️❤️🌹🌹🌹
Thanks!
MAN, Torbjorn - you sir are an artist-craftsman. Very well done. Thank you for sharing and setting the bar high for all us hobbyist blacksmiths.
Thank you Brad!
Splinter is HAPPY
Love it!!! Thanks for sharing!
Hermoso!!!!! maestro, gracias por compartir su arte
Incredible! What a talent you have. Thanks for sharing.
8:03 is the only place where my mind said “yeaouch” for the little turtle.
Very impressed, as always!
One of the coolest fun projects I've seen! I love the shell, it looks like you could have molded it off of a real tortoise. Great work and an acute eye for artistic detail. Thank you Sir.
Cutest turtle I have ever seen. What a work of art.
Lovely piece, thank you for sharing Torbjörn!
Wow ,you never fail to amaze me. It's beautiful.
Absolutely wonderful. I always enjoy your videos immensely, but his brought a real sense of delight. Thak Ironworks is another person I follow closely. That you are now involved in his Chess Set Project, rather puts it over the top for me. I love making animals and "critters" in the forge, and again what an inspiring job you did.
Many thanks!
As always, you are incredible! What a simple and great piece. Thank you for sharing your skills!
Thanks!
This is amazing. I just started blacksmithing myself last week. I hope I can do something like this at some point. Really inspiring stuff :)
Cool, good luck!!
I so enjoy watching craftsmen and artist work and show their process of doing things. I am a new person to your channel but can not wait to see what you create next.
Thanks!
