- In this video I show how I make my fire basket! A fun project involving some basic techniques and repetition making several matching pieces. It's a lot of work though, and I underestimated the time needed for this project :)

There is something absolutely mesmerizing and spellbinding when observing a master forger and craftsman displaying his unequaled skills for the gratification of people like myself to not only appreciate but, also to learn from. I am forever spellbound whenever you post an upload Sir, and this creation like every other before it is absolutely outstanding as well as inspiring and a product of you patience, determination, skills and mastery. Thank You again Sir. Peace and Love to You and Yours.
Thank you very much William! It means a lot!
The candy church was in-spiring too.
@@torbjornahman I'd have used the sugar glue.
Very well said William, I totally agree!
Me too, what William O said.
I am transfixed each time I watch a video from you, Torbjorn. But this one took me to a whole new level. There are soooo many blacksmiths out there making blades, but too few showing great craftsmanship making and building other things. I've been a follower for several years now and you never disappoint. I'm very thankful you sacrifice your time for us. Thank you! This project is in my future. John is right, it came out perfect.
Thank you so much Dan!
That was one of the best blacksmithing jobs I've ever seen.
Everything he does is gold.
@@earlemorgan5068 actually, its steel 😂
The Beacon is lit, Gondor calls for aid!
Absolutely stellar work on this brazier! Makes me want a to forge a set of them myself to flank the entrance to a house.
As I was watching this, I thought, “That’s pretty cool, very clever. Now if it weren’t for all those ugly bolts.” Then you started making the rivets and I went “Ah!” Well done! Happy New Year to you and your family.
:) Thanks! It's good to know everything fits before you rivet... there is no going back from that!
Was thinking the same, that it'd be better with rivets, then he forged them as I thought it. Left me happy, lol.
@@george8873 Yeah, I was like " Oh, thank God, he's not leaving those ugly bolts!" Beautifully barbaric, I want one for the mead hall.
@Charles Brainard Me too
Saw the plated nuts and bolts and knew rivets would follow. Unplated hardware? Still would have expected rivets. :)
Love the "This Old Tony" homage at the beginning. *Snap*
I've seen this type of homage, a few times, here.
Always leaves me smiling.
steve
Its usual in TÅ vids to. Old T is great to.
TOT released a video yesterday
@@Ilex1 Yeah, I saw that.. Argon and all that.. I dont know how I became so hooked on a hobby machinist's side projects but #thisoldtony really keeps me coming back for more. Also TÅ now, too.
Man that was cool. I'm a woodworker who daydreams of being a metal worker. May not happen in this lifetime, but I sure hope there is metalwork in heaven.
That's why every time UA-cam sends me a message that a new video has arrived from Torbjörn Åhman, I am overwhelmed with joy! Thank you :)
Wow, thank you!
Always a good day when I get an upload from you! Thanks Torbjörn!
American here, gotta say, the look of the millimeter tape measure is so clean and makes me jealous.
No inches are better
In Scotland we have tapes with metric and inches (Imperial)
Works fine 👍
@@hrxy1 No, mm are better. 1 cm is 2 parts 5mm each. 1 inch is in 4 main parts. Each of this main parts is splitted on 2 smaller parts - and each of the smaller parts is splitted on next 4 smaller parts. Too complicated, easy to make a mistake.
@@mago_8145 no an inch is more organic in terms of proportion, as is a foot. Divisible by 6,4,3,&2. An inch&aquarter, is proportional to 1foot 3inches. An inch halfed is half an inch, halved is quarter, halved an eighth, halved 16th halved is a 32 balved is a 64th, its easier, and its always proportional to an inch and a foot. 3 dimensionally it's more pleasing to the eye, which is why modern cars, tvs fridges and all modern appliances look like shit.
@@mago_8145 An inch tape is way easier to read for me.
Fire cradle you don't see them made properly everyday . I praise your gifted hands, mind for what you created.
Thanks!
Hot forging, cold forging and mystical steel cutting techniques. All you could want from a blacksmithing video.
The best blacksmith on UA-cam by far!
True!
Love this channel too. Especially as we dont get bothered with the host pleading for subscription to the channel and standing in the picture blabbering.
Hejsan ifron Danmark :)
Beautiful design and execution! Thank you :)
Thanks!
Björn det är fantastiskt o du verkligen proffsig på ditt jobb

UA-cam needs to add a ❤️ button. Thumbs up don't quite match up to this type of craftsmanship. Always a pleasure watching TA vids.
Thank you for providing these tires of metal working videos. I've never been that interested in blades, these videos have given me new insight in what I want to craft.
Now I just need to make the time..
A true craftsman, and father, the world needs more like you!
How can we not applaud such meticulous and creative work?
Thanks !
It's lovely to see a father working with his children on a project.
Every age of my children was wonderful, but this age (when they think you can perform miracles) is particularly special and it doesn't last for very long.
Cherish every moment.
What? You want a forged fire basket? ... sure give me 30min... clearly only something Torbjorn could pull off... just lovely ^^
I watched this when it came out a year ago, and I continue to watch this video repeatedly about once a month. It's my favorite thus far, I love the look of it, I love to watch you work with the care you take and the patience you have to do the job right and do it right the first time to make a quality piece that will clearly last for years if its taken care of. Bravo!
Thanks Jim!
Are there any words left to describe such mastership? I am blown away. Speechless. And this happens every time I see these videos. Constant reminder of the meaning of perfection. Love you, Torbjoern! Thank you.
Wow, thank you!
That's how you make ribbit, really enjoyed your your construction, your Technique, and beautiful final product.
I can watch you do this all day. Beautiful skill.
This is so good on so many levels. The craftsmanship is methodical and thorough. Eg. the chamfers on the outside of the rivets vs. the flat finish on the inside give it that rounded softened feel. The Christmas theme and final fire make it feel comforting and warm. It's so good, I'll probably come back to watch it again and again. It's like blacksmithing ASMR.
Thanks David!
I see a young Man making a ginger bread house under the supervision of a truely prod Dad .
And the fire place is the work of a true master.
So happy new year to you and your family. Cheers. (:
Thanks, and the same to you!
Not only that you go out of your way to share your plentiful creations and knowledge with us, but you also include a part in your videos when you spend time with your family and loved ones, which I find the most enthralling of all. If there was someone I have learnt from the most, that would be you. Not only craftsmanship, but also good faith and living values. I sincerely appreciate all the things you have done for us so far, thank you.
Thank you so much!
I've watched a lot of your projects, this has to be my favorite one.
Thanks!
It's beautiful!
The look on your face though when you dumped the pile of rivets on the forge to start making them sure said "Why did I decide to do this again?" Lots of repetitive work, but the end result is amazing!
:) :) Thanks!
Amazing job! Every step of the way I kept thinking "it's perfect, what could he be doing to make it better", but you just kept making it better. Incredible attention to detail. Cheers.
Thank you very much!
Nice to see your work. It inspires ... and it gives peace. And what is really nice, no iritant music, only workplace sounds.
Thank you!
I couldn't stop watching. Thank you.
Thank you for the time you spend with your family. Another fantastic and beautifully designed work of a blacksmith
У Вас шикарные работы выходят. Это не просто кузнечные изделия - это искусство. 👍
Any other man would have been fine with the nuts and bolts but you made homemade rivets for all of them, you absolute mad lad! Subbed for forever.
I never consider fast forwarding his videos despite they are generally lengthy. I know he makes quality videos with high level craftsmanship. I appreciate such effort and time consuming projects.
Thanks!!
Mr. Torbjörn, I get a lot of positive energy watching your work ..... Thanks ..... Happy New Year
Cool, glad to hear that! Thanks
Dude, that seemed like a ton of work. When you put the first rod back into the fire I realised the scope of what you were doing there - all these separate steps, so many of 'em, and you had to reheat it almost every time! With every time you put a stack of stuff onto the "finished" pile, you seemed more angry in the way you put them down ^^
I hope your family likes to huddle around it as well :)
Ha ha, thanks! I'm trying not to look at the amount of work to start with, just complete each step, but of course it's there in the back of your mind...
@@torbjornahman Exactly. Complete the thirty-fourth difficult, complicated, aggravating piece with satisfaction. Then remember you still have four hundred and eight-one to go. (sigh...) And a deadline that disagrees more and more strongly with probable completion. Experience from my machinist days, of course. Very different, but still very similar, I'm sure. :)
Magnifique ! True master and I love the fact that we see the whole process and the special tools that you are using
Thank you very much!
Torbjorn ... your attention to details is phenomenal !-)
Man, that was much work. But it came out really nice! This thing will last a long long time 👍
Завораживающее видео ,я восхищён вашим талантом...
That's exactly what you need next to an outdoor ice rink for your friends to warm up while they're chatting. Perfect for roasting sausages and marshmallows!
Thanks!
I've enjoyed watching you make many things, but I really love this one. Thanks.
Thank you very much!
I wish my fingers were that strong. Wouldn’t expect anything less from a guy named Thunder Bear.
This was just what I needed! I too was thinking surely he’s not going to leave those bolts. Oh ye of little faith! Beautiful work and I really do appreciate the little peak into your beautiful family life. I hope you and your family are doing well and thank you from the bottom of my heart for this. I’m as calm as a church mouse after this. Yours sincerely, Robert.
Design makes a beautiful fire. Great workmanship, lots of work.
awesome build! went way crazier than i thought at the beginning!
This is art. Thank you for this enjoyable time.
It's such a pure pleasure watching the mental image being realized in solid metal when it comes out just as good as you pictured it. I also loved the patient efforts of your children which mirror your example.
I was so happy to see a big project. That fire basket will be around for your kids, kids to use. That was great to watch. Please make a garden gate for some one that need a gate thanks.
Dude, I don't ever comment on videos, but that brazier is beautiful work. Good job
Torbjörn the Riveter. 😉
Beautiful work as always, and well worth the wait!
Absolutely loved it. Great project and it came out perfect. How many weeks work do you actually have into the design, preparation, forging and filming?
Thanks John! I don't keep track, but I probably worked on it for about 2 weeks in total. Actual metal production maybe one week... not sure. Filming adds a lot of overhead....
Instablaster...
This was so much fun to watch. Hope you can enjoy many fires around it with your family
I'm sure we will. Thanks!
I have fallen in love with this fire basket 🥰. Beautiful 😍🙏
Thanks!
I am always amazed and inspired by the beautiful projects you create. Every. Single. Time. Watching your videos is something like watching a sunset; always unique, always relaxing, and always enlivening.
Thank you so much!
Me: Wow, that looks... wait... no... he's not leaving the bolts in!?"
Also me: Phew!
Same here.... "He wont use bolts, wont he....?!?!?" "He uses bolts?!?!?! WTH....." "Thaaaaaaank godness, he's making rivets...!!!!" :-)
Same thoughts :D
That basket is a thing of beauty!
Fantastiskt trevlig presentation för att inte tala om design. Tio stjärnor av tio möjliga!!!! Tack Torbjörn!
Fantastically nice presentation not to mention design. Ten stars out of ten possible !!!! Thank you Torbjörn!
Tack tack!!!
Man, I watched in my home cinema for the first time, with sub-woofer. Those hammer-blows reeeeally rocks!
Excellent content, production, and work, as usual!
Cool, thanks!
The skill and attention to detail is a pleasure to watch.
I love the this old Torbjørn visual gags
I love the the beauty of all the process. So relaxing. I really enjoy your videos
Thanks so much!
I am very impressed as the parts fits absolutely correct. Bravo for this wonderful handwork !
Lots of work got into making it, it looks like, but worth it in my oppinion. Looks great! 👍
The more videos I watch from you and your work, the most I have to realize that I have to practice a lot! I really admire your work and skills.
Thats gotta be the most beautiful forged item I have ever seen.
Thanks!
I've said it before and I'll say it again you have to be the best Blacksmith on the planet hands down ! Your craftsmanship sets the standard for all other blacksmiths past and present. its Amazing to watch raw stock pass through your door and come out a Masterpiece and never to be duplicate.
Thank very much!! It warms!
This is an excellent job, but the best blacksmith in the world would have forge welded those hoops together. I have seen it done by my mentor who is 90 years old and began his apprenticeship at 14 years old. Well done Thunder Bear, I am always learning from you. Happy New Year.
@@davidbutler3661 Forge welding the rings would have been possible of course, but since the distance between the holes is quite important you would have to make some test pieces to know exactly how much material you would have to add to the ends.
Yes that's true, I have only a little experience with this, but I have seen my mentor Malcolm just do a few calculations on the table with a piece of chalk then cut the stock and weld it in the fire for a great result every time. I guess that's what comes with 75 years experience. I am just glad that I can learn from him and also wonderful people like you.
@@davidbutler3661 Malcolm Paine??
This one was an especially beautiful piece. I love your work, my father and I watch every upload
Beautiful, solid work and meticulous engineering
Wonderful work, good video, fantastic assistants, best gingerbread church I've seen all year! LOL My grandpa built a "blazer" (his word) out of steel pipe and when fully loaded you had to stand 20 feet away! Yours is so much more stylish and a little smaller. Happy 2021!

Thanks!
I'll say it again, the eye is in the detail 👌First class workmanship 👍
This is an absolutely beautiful piece. I can only hope that one day I’ll be able to pull this off.
Thanks, and good luck!!
I did think those ugly bolts would be replaced !
Great job !
What impresses me with each project is just how intricate the process is and how skillful you have to be whether forging a delicate lotus leaf or creating a brazier such as this....and the phrase "strike while the iron is hot" comes to mind. I work with wood, so all it takes for me is patience. Beautiful, as well, is the contrast between the hammer and the fire and the creation of a delicate gingerbread house. May you and your family be blest for the new year, my friend.
And as a smith how he keeps his hands so "hand model" clean! LOL!
Another Zen-like experience! Great work. HMS Titanic and Empire State Building Riveters would be proud to see!
beautiful bit of workmanship , a joy to watch , top marks , regards to you from the UK
That is one beautiful piece. Then again; I say that about ALL your work, I must be turning into a fan boy.
:)
So good, warms the soul.
Amazing. While staring at the finished piece, I seriously have to remind myself that I just witnessed it being created, from scratch.
Thanks!
Beautiful, just beautiful. This project is a superb example of craftsmanship. LOVE IT!

Thank you so much 😀
Well now, Torbjörn...that was just plain remarkable!
