I still regret that I didn't buy the ticket that allowed me into the concert field at the Medieval Christmas Market in Fredenbaumpark in Dortmund when you guys were playing. I missed the chance for one hell of a party there!
The reason for this cover ( and the other 6 to come) is, a lot of german bands have nothing to do since the big bad C19 hit us all, and so when Eskimo Callboy asked them for cover versions they all were super happy to cooperate. There will be a hip hop, a pop, a country, a techno version and some others I just forgot about.
The first time I ever traveled to Europe, I managed to see them at a Mittelalterlich Phantasie Spectaculum event where they do more acoustic sets than their rock or metal sets like they play at festivals like Wacken. It was pouring rain and the electricity went out on stage, so they just unplugged their bagpipes and came out in the rain and stood on benches in the crowd to finish the set. To this day, almost nine years later, it's still the coolest thing I've ever seen at a concert. There's nothing else like SaMo at the MPS, and it's what turned them into my favorite band. When they played the 70000 Tons of Metal cruise, they played some extra acoustic sets much like their mittelaltermarkt sets. I don't know that there's any band that can top them when it comes to really going above and beyond for their listeners and fans. Truly great guys.

@@TankTheTech I stumbled over the mix of medieval/folk and Rock/metal way back in my teens with bands like In Extremo, Subway to Sally, Schandmaul and others (it's pretty much a genre dominated by german bands, similar to pagan metal being a mostly scandinavian phenomenon) and the combination of bagpipes and electric guitars has been one of my favorite things in music ever since. Would absolutely love to see you discover more of this in the future.

It feels a bit surreal to see how big Saltatio Mortis has become. Back when I was in my teens, SaMo was still kind of an insider's tip. They mostly did gigs all over Germany at medieval fares and festivals. My pals and I back then already were quite the fans and one buddy of mine pretty much went ballistic whenever he saw them live. He actually gave Alea pause once and he was totally flabbergasted, going "Wait, somebody knows us?". Great to see they hit it big since then. 🤘

I remember their very first gig in the "Kulturruine" (loved it!!!) until then I only knew Gunther as the owner of this shop who I loved to chat with. OMG I'm old...😥😂
Nice to see you so excited about this. Another very well known band from the genre is Feuerschwanz, who on their last album released folk metal covers of Sabaton, Powerwolf, Rammstein... They are good friends with Saltatio and usually play the same festivals here in Germany
While the covers are great it would almost be a shame not to react to one of the original songs from the new record. Das Elfte Gebot comes to mind, there are also the instruments in it :D Meister der Minne also has a great video. Explains the lyrics very well
I love hearing you explain the instruments. It makes your channel so much more interesting to watch than others. I learn so much every time you talk about the gear.
One small note regarding the video producers: Pascal is also the guitarist. Eskimo Callboy produce their videos mostly themselves, including special effects etc. there are interesting behind the scene ones for Hypa Hypa and both Mc Thunder I and II, where you can see the band members painting back drops, scouting locations etc.
This was a surprise hit for me. It's perfect. Also, the video with Kevin and Niko messing with the band was spot on. I could watch a show with those two 'Hypa Hypa-ing' up random bands.
Man, I do love Saltatio Mortis. They've been around for 20 years now, basically starting out as Street musicians performing at renaissance fairs and now have become one of the most successful rock bands here in Germany, their last four albums al peaking at the German charts. What's really cool about them is that they don't shy away from hot topics and, while staying true to their medieval folk roots, often sing about very political issues of our present.
YESS! Already loved seeing Saltatio Mortis and the boys from Eskimo Callboy performing this on Saltatio Mortis' concert last friday and would have never imagined to see you react to Saltatio Mortis. More Saltatio Mortis! My favorite Folk-Metal Band of all time. "Löwenherz"; "Loki"; "Spielmannsschwur"; "Wo sind die Clowns?"....just to call some of their awesome songs.
Just rewatched this reaction for the umpteenth time. It never fails to make me smile and really, since it’s the video by which I found your channel and, ultimately, Electric Callboy, it has a bit of nostalgia too. Since then, you doing reactions has introduced me to so many bands (or songs that I didn’t know by bands that I did already know) and I really need to thank you for this. As someone who listens to a lost of music and who listens to music basically as much as possible, broadening my horizon, so to speak, has been a really fun journey! Thank you again, Tank! (Also, since I just saw it on your endcard at the end of the SaMo video - Puro Amor is a great Album by my absolute favourite German band called Broilers :D you might like their music too! If you ever decide to check out a song, I highly recommend „33 RPM“.)
Saltatio Mortis also has connections to a folk musician I've mentioned a few times, Patty Gurdy. Since you're into Folk Metal, I'll recommend her old band Storm Seeker, if you haven't checked them out already.
That was highly enjoyable. It's not quite my thing but I' can appreciate the skill, the humour, the artisanship, and I'm glad you enjoyed it as much as you did - Ian
Man, i've watched your reaction around ten times now. You're the best! I really love how you seem to feel and enjoy music in general and are open-minded enough to check out all kinds of music genres. Though i did find your channel while going down the Hypa Hypa Reaction rabbit hole, me subscribing to your channel is not limited to the Eskimo Callboy content. You just seem like a cool and honest dude. Beste Grüße & rock on 🤟
Yeeeeaaaah! Moooreee! 😍 I've seen them live a few times and I'd loooove to see more reactions, they've got a ton of nice stuff ❤ I'd also recommend you to check out both their older and newer ones 😉 By the way, in terms of german Folkbands I also highly recommend Bands like "Schandmaul", "In Extremo" oder "Feuerschwanz" 😍❤
Saltatio Mortis - experts in "heavy metal" + bagpipe combination. If you wanna hear something extremely satisfying like the sound of braking glass - try some Spielmannschwur or Rattenfänger. In Extremo - experts in setting up the good mood. Most of their songs are overwhelmed with hope and joy. If you feel depressed - go listen to some Nymphenzeit or Sternhagelvoll Tanzwut - experts in the feel of empathy. Their music sounds like they had the same problems and feel your pane, your sadness. They are also the most nostalgic band I can think of, but that's probably because I listened to nothing but Tanzwut in my teens. Vroudenspil - they are like painters of music world. The music is very diverse, it sounds perfectly beautiful, amazing attention to detail. If you wanna see the music or even touch it - I strongly recommend trying Rum fur die Welt or Wilkommen an Bort. Mr. Hurley & die Pulveraffen - you definitely expect nothing more than pure fun! Go listen to Blau wie das Meer or Alll! and laugh your ass off! Versengold - that's simple. It's the band with the least amount of extreme singing techniques, it's your choice for singing in the shower. You just crank up the water and go: "NIIIIEEEEMAAAALS SAANG UUUUUND KLAAAANGLOOOOS UNTEEEEEEERGEEEHN..."
The type of bagpipe they use is called "Marktsackpfeife" (market bagpipe). They were developed in the 70s and 80s in East Germany, specifically for loud folk music, often at a renaissance fair or "Mittelaltermarkt" (medieval market) as we call it (hence the name).
I first met SaMo in 2007 at a medival festival and instantly fell in love with their music. A few years ago i had a funny evening at a tavern with Luzi and Jean. That means a lot of mead and jokes 🤣
Hey Tank, I‘m following you since the first Reaction Vid from Hypa Hypa. Im so glad to „disccovered“ you, because of this pure joy and emotions in your reactions! Thanks for your videos and it would be so epic to meet you maybe on an Eskimo Callboy or even a Saltatio Mortis Show ! Cheers

hey tanky, your reactions videos are the best. real emotions paired with grounded information. you are a very symphatik guy. keep on . greetings from germany
i preordered the upcoming EP with (i think) 6 different Hypa Hypa Versions. And i love your reaction and this version.... tbh, i love all versions meanwhile of Hypa Hypa. And the video is awesome :)
Thank you for checking out my favorite band mate!! Glad you liked it ;)
8:24 fun fact: electric guitars were first used in/made for classical music so they could be heard with the orchestra/group
When you already love this I think you might be even more excited to know that there are going to be 6 other covers of Hypa Hypa.
Thanks Tank, your joy was contagious as hell! Thanks man!
I'm not going to spoil you with any description, but you want to check out In Extremo, especially their older stuff!
maybe a live version of vollmond
Great find. Great reaction. I am missing thumbs to up.
Oh, and last week I saw another one to get back to: Nanowar of Steel seems to be back.
There will be even more different versions of the song! I am totally looking forward to the other versions and your reactions to them :D
Yeah, they announced it on their channel: Its in german but with english subtitles: ua-cam.com/video/fkAjjs-9Rg0/v-deo.html
Tank, I am so glad that you discovered SM. I have been listening to them for years. Their song Die Spielmannschwur is one of my all time favorites.
I recommend "Kaufmann & Maid" by Saltatio Mortis
This!
So Sabaton's newest track, The Defence of Moscow went live today.
Oh I'm aware. Hahaha
I normally avoid reaction videos, but this is fun to watch. Thanks Tank, keep it up, will check your content from time to time. Greetings from Germany.
Danke!
Thanks for the video ! Very instructive about the folk songs !
And this Hypa hypa cover is insane !
More Saltatio Mortis! My favorite Folk-Metal Band of all time. "Löwenherz"; "Loki"; "Spielmannsschwur"; "Wo sind die Clowns?"....just to call some of their awesome songs.
Saltatio Mortis - Früher war alles besser or Wo sind die Clowns would be cool 😁👌
Fruher War Alles Besser was a pretty great song, and video! Saltatio Mortis is awesome, I really need to listen to more of their stuff.
If you ever decide to check out a song, I highly recommend „33 RPM“.)
just sittin here enjoying a cold one and this song. put your hands up!
Saltatio Mortis also has connections to a folk musician I've mentioned a few times, Patty Gurdy. Since you're into Folk Metal, I'll recommend her old band Storm Seeker, if you haven't checked them out already.
When Music can bring you to tears, it did everything right!
That was highly enjoyable. It's not quite my thing but I' can appreciate the skill, the humour, the artisanship, and I'm glad you enjoyed it as much as you did

Beste Grüße & rock on 🤟
Thanks a ton!
Yeeeeaaaah! Moooreee! 😍 I've seen them live a few times and I'd loooove to see more reactions, they've got a ton of nice stuff ❤ I'd also recommend you to check out both their older and newer ones 😉
By the way, in terms of german Folkbands I also highly recommend Bands like "Schandmaul", "In Extremo" oder "Feuerschwanz" 😍❤
If you feel depressed - go listen to some Nymphenzeit or Sternhagelvoll
Tanzwut - experts in the feel of empathy.
Thank you!
I really enjoyed watching your reaction, the facts are just awesome! Think I`ll stay here...
Grüße aus Deutschland, Ehre!
The Hypa train is rolling.😀
Again a great teaching tech stuff reaction by Tank.
I first met SaMo in 2007 at a medival festival and instantly fell in love with their music. A few years ago i had a funny evening at a tavern with Luzi and Jean. That means a lot of mead and jokes 🤣
Wasnt me. Cant remember. Im innocent and dont drink 😂
@@luzi-saltatio ou i forgot... just water and tea 🤪😋 and it‘s named atlantis 😇
@@Tarjaxena87 Atlantis! Kein Wunder, dass ich mich nicht erinnere!! :D
@@Tarjaxena87 Teufelszeug!!
@@luzi-saltatio und jetzt kombinier das Teufelszeug noch mit Coco und mir und dann kommen vielleicht doch noch ein paar Erinnerungen 🤣
I heard the Eskimo Callboy want to release a complete album with Hypa Hypa songs in different styles, so I'm very curious about all genres😜😜
Song of the year 2020 once again for me!
Cheers
