Santiano - So still mein Herz - sadly there is no flashy video to that song and i also don't know if you would have much to say about their voices - i am no voice coach and i suck at singing - but i really like the harmony between the female and the two male voices in that song
Well the downside of Loki is.. its "just" a lyric Video so there is no gear to talk about... But still a god damn good Song..... i would recommend "löwenherz" ( lionheart) similar to this Musik Video it has Story and Band aspect with gear to break down
Alea, the singer is a cosplayer and what he was wearing in this video was an Eivor cosplay from Assassins Creed - Valhalla. Most of the people in the background of this video were cosplayers as well. It's an awesome community here in Germany :)
As an Icelander when I first saw this I was quite surprised when he started singing in Icelandic but this 10th century poem by Egill Skallagrímsson we all know. He supposedly wrote it at the age of 7 but reality does mix with legend sometimes. It is a fact that he was a great warrior, poet and a chief in his time and died about the year 990 in his 80's back home in Iceland. But his mother was right. He got a ship and went on as a Viking to fight in what we now know as England and Russia.
Hey Tank! This poem, Þat mælti mín móðir, was written in approx year 917 by my great great great... (repeat "great" 26 times hehe) grandfather Egill Skallagrímsson. I am his direct descendant 28 generations up. Egill Skallagrímsson was born in Iceland in the year 910 and is the main character in one of the most famous Icelandic Sagas, "Egils saga Skallagrímssonar". He was the son of Skallagrímur Kveldúlfsson, who emigrated from Norway. They settled in the West of Iceland and the farmhouse Borg is where they made their home. The small town of Borgarnes, a stone's throw away bears the name of farmhouse. Egill was quite the character. At the tender age of 7, he was playing sports with the neighbour's kid, Grímur Heggsson that was a strong 11 year old, and Grímur was giving Egill a hard time so Egill just killed him. As you do... haha. That's what vikings do. haha. After this his mother told him he would make a fine viking and Egill wrote this poem on that occasion. It should be noted that the Icelandic language has changed very little since that time. Here's Egill's original poem, followed by the modern Icelandic version: Þat mælti mín móðir, at mér skyldi kaupa fley ok fagrar árar, fara á brott með víkingum, standa upp í stafni, stýra dýrum knerri, halda svá til hafnar hǫggva mann ok annan, hǫggva mann ok annan. Það mælti mín móðir, að mér skyldi kaupa fley og fagrar árar, fara á brott með víkingum, standa upp í stafni, stýra dýrum knerri, halda svo til hafnar höggva mann og annan, höggva mann og annan.
I love that the band members checked in and watched with us. They CARE!!!! They did such a fantastic job with the song, with a really fun vid to back it up. My inner rabid berserker was happy!
By the way, the female actress (Linda) is actually from my home town with about 5000 people living here. I ordered a lot of beer in the years at the tavern where she was working while a medivale festival was held here every year for 3 days.
My metal addiction started from In Extremo and Oomph, they still are in my heart ❤😁 In extremo is more than just a band- google the backgrounds of their songs- there is pagan and medieval folk in them, like songs from Carmina Burana
@@wachterwachter Yeah apparently they utilise real old melodies from folk songs and medieval songs of the past. And the other day I literally watched the whole 2 hours of their 20th anniversary concert in 2015 which was incredible.

If I may give you a pointer to something else you will enjoy, it's Feuerschwanz "Schubsetanz". This is a beloved classic, and for the virtual release party of the last album, they made a black metal version of it for fun. By popular demand, they ended making a full version with a crazy good video. My recommendation would be a double header reaction.
Hey Tank, as a German and a Fan of your content: You should watch "In Extremo - Herr Mannelig" or "In Extremo - Spielmannsfluch", those two songs I would consider the core of the German Folk Metal. In Extremo was one of the first and best known german folk metal bands with Subway to Sally in second place.
You can add Villeman Og Magnhild of them on the list. Just to honor The Yellow Piper who sadly passed away last week: ua-cam.com/video/lj3wiZJzZvM/v-deo.html
On top of the insane production and of cause the incredible music, I read somewhere that the vocalist learned basic Islandic to be able to sing the original lyrics. That is a whole new level of commitment to the song! These guys are indeed impressive!
As a German and Saltatio Fan, I always enjoy seeing people from other the world react to their videos, because they need to be known :D I really enjoyed your video, because off al the knowlegde you have about the instruments and everything. Thanks men

Additionally to your videos itself, they all have the advantage that their comments are bursting with good recommendations. I can easily find new songs or bands here that suit my own taste xD
I really want to see a fantasy movie or TV show with Alea, Chris Harms and Teufel. From their recent videos they all have the physicality to act. Alea can definitely pull off the Viking or Germanic warrior type. Chris has an other worldly look and would not have looked out of place with the elves in Lord of the Rings. Teufel is that mischievous Mage or Druid. Mono Inc + Tanzwut - Right for the Devil might be interesting to react to, with two full bands there is plenty of gear to comment on and a couple of unique guitars.
Bring on the hurdy gurdy and the bagpipes! Interesting the repeat on the final line of the chorus. I've always heard it as "Too many foe-men." Have been down the German music rabbit hole for a while with Faun, Santiano, and The Picturebooks - they did a great song with Lzzy Hale called "Rebel" and one with Chrissy Hynde from The Pretenders called "You Can't Let Go"... may we all age as well as Chrissy Hynde! Thanks for the intro to Saltatio Mortis!
A great band, song, and video production. I would definitely pay to see a 90+ minute "video" of olde-myths and stories, if it were done like this. This is a damn fine way to start my day... energy supplied, tapped, and flowing. Thanks for this Tank... I'll be cranking up my new H&K and downtuning the old Firebird for the 4th... ... I think I finally found something in my vocal range !!
No Tank-Fact that they are singing parts Icelandic (the most "ancient" unmodernized nordic language)? Impressive that Alea managed to learn and remeber the lyrics. Can't wait for the album. Also nice song pics for OP/ED.
@@hegamona2864 Ah okay, so not ancient but medieval. Thanks for the clarification. (Btw, just to make sure because written communication is a bitch: Don't want to pick on you for making a mistake or something, just was honestly interested and wasn't sure if there was some mix-up involved in the terminology. So thanks again.)
This sounds great, thanks for giving me a new band to dive into! The folk metal band Salduie just released their new album if you're looking for some more folk metal to showcase on the channel.
Since the release this version stucks in my head!😀🔥It s really an earworm/Ohrwurm! 😁Productionwise it could also be from a movie. Love it! Obviously you like it, too!😁😁😁
This is awesome! I've been a fan of these guys for years and this song came out, I screamed because I've loved it for years! I definitely think you should do Feuerschwanz if you haven't already! Either 'Ding' or 'warriors of the world'. Keep going man, you're wicked!
Tank my dude, I dont think you realise how deep that Rabbit hole is :D :D Cant wait for you to dive into it. I give you about 1 1/2, 2 Years till you´re part of the Joms Vikings :D
Remembering a MPS gig in Borken (germany) Alea threatened people sitting on benches kind of "i have bagpipers and i'm willing to use them". And he did. Luzi, Elsi and Falk crept behind them and started playing. Noone was seated after that....
This music stirs my Celtic blood. I'm all in with Saltatio Mortis. I love their sound, their attention to detail and their spirit - you get the sense that the blood of heroes and legends runs in their veins.
I remember seeing Saltatio Mortis live on a Medieval Festival (like at least fifteen years ago, probably longer?) I had no idea who they were, I wasn't there for them, they just happened to play the fair and the stage was barely big enough for the whole band to be on it at the same time, but I was instantly just taken by their amazing performance. They were much more folk than metal then, (like a lot of covers of actual medieval minne songs and the like) but had great live presence and lovely anecdotes inbetween. One of my favorite live concert experiences, the energy was just great and I got a CD after the show, which I think I'll need to go hunt down, lol. I remember my favourite song on the album was 'Dunkler Engel' I have no idea if they ever produced a full video for the song, but it definitely stuck in my head because it was one of the few songs on the album produced with already with some metal/synth hybrid sounds. I'm looking very much forward to more Saltatio Mortis reactions from you.
Oh, dude! I love folk metal too.. Folk metal is forever in my soul! My wife hates it, but I listen to it surreptitiously.. And this song is my favorite! 🤘 These bagpipes are wonderful and catchy! Oh and Sabaton in the background...
Some of my favorite Saltatio Mortis songs are "Wachstum Uber Alles" and "fruher was alles besser". "Weiß wie schnee" is also really good, though its only got a lyrics video. Their cover of PowerWolf's "We Drink Your Blood" ended up growing on me after a few listens.
I love that you teared up watching this. I experience this too when listening to music and I find it so hard to describe or share the amazing feeling. Great video brother!
When you say you're in folk metal please check out "Faun - Walpurgisnacht"! The history behind that is that in medieval times people belived that witches gathered at this night to summon / meet the devil. Great song, I bet you'll like it, it's completely in German but the video speaks for itself.
I was just about to recommend this masterpiece for you but I see that you're a man of culture and already planned on reacting to it. So pumped, waiting for 6:30 pm! \m/
I vote for "Saltatio Mortis - Spielmannsschwur (Live auf dem W:O:A 2017)" as your next reaction. You need to see them live Tank and this will give you the full on life SaMo energy. This is mostly the last song they performe at a concert and always a highlight on every concert.
My Mother told me is a song sung in Egil's Saga taking place between ca 850-1000CE. The oldest known fragment is from approximate 1240CE, it is believed to have been composed by Snorri Sturluson who partial composed the Prose Edda.
I love the the way you react to the Songs and the Informations about the Guitars I get by this Reactions. Just saying, in my opinion the best Music Reaction Videos on UA-cam! 🔥 And by the way you said its a bit like a Live ShowGermany from "Heilung", so just an Fun Fact one of the Warriors in Heilung is my uncle xD. Love from Germany :) ❤
Thank you for doing more saltatio mortis. My four year old son is singing this Song all day long 🤘😅 he loves folk and medival metal Almost as much as you do. Our 6 year old is more into sabaton and slipknot 😉 I think parenting done right so far 🤣
As you have already descended into the German metal hole, please check out the NDH band Eisbrecher with the video - Was ist hier los? (Offizielles Musikvideo - Live 2019). Both because it is good metal, but also because the video gives great gear shots, and just hits the feels of how much we miss going to live shows
@TankTheTech love your channel and been following it for a long time now. Keep up the awesome work! If you want to explore some early NDH, I recommend Fleischmann and their album Treibhaus: ua-cam.com/video/vxpOCZM1v5k/v-deo.html They are considered one of the early innovators of NDH (started 1989) but unfortunately due to several reasons never became as big as they shoud have been. Following health issues of their lead singer and composer they unfortunately had to disband. Nothing to react to because there is noreal video but something to check out if you'd like to learn more about the roots of NDH. Best regards from Germany.

Tank if you're into folk, medieval and viking stuff then you should check Corvus Corax "Gjallarhorni" with "Intro gjallarhorni" at the beginning. I would love to see your reaction to this powerfull sound. 🙂
Saltatio has actually covered a few Swedish folk songs, one of those "Varulven" (the warewolf) are actually sung in Swedish (which my brother didn't catch until he'd listened to it a few times :P)
Sweet music, video, and breakdown as always Had an old favorite pop up in my spotify today that has a live video: The ocean- permian, the great dying. Thought you could take a look
just for the hilarious component of it you should check out the video they made for Neustart fur den Sommer (which was made last year as a reaction to the COVID lock down). The band has amazing fans. I don't even know how some them came up with what they were doing.
Tank, i had to make two comments. Please check out Týr live in Tórshavn with the Faroe Islands Symphony Orchestra (video is from last year i think). I cant post a link but Ormurin Langi ("Long Serpent", about Olav Tryggvason) or any of the other Norse ballads ones in that concert are awesome. Gives me chills
Tank I have to say it again, you're probably the only American who pronounces the Band name correct 🤣🤣 Great version of this song. If you want to check out one of Saltatios own songs, also with Norse theme you need to hear Loki!

Mono Inc + Tanzwut - Right for the Devil might be interesting to react to, with two full bands there is plenty of gear to comment on and a couple of unique guitars.
Told you the vid is amazing - glad you like it that much.
Going to see them live in Oberhausen, Germany on July 23rd - I am so hyped.
Ehre, Alla! Gracias for another awesome reaction!
German, Spanish, and English in one comment?! Madness! 😂
I mean, it was kind of mentioned when I said they had a coach for Nordic languages, but yeah, it was specifically for Icelandic.
Saltatio mortis is known for singing in many languages. German, ancient german, latin, swedisch, english and french so far
@@hegamona2864 What's "ancient German"? Do you mean Old German or some ancient Germanic dialect?
@@BeOtterMyFriend They made a sond in some medival dialect. They found the lyrics as a sidenote skribbled in an old book and made it a song.
Yay~ nice Reaction! I really enjoy watching your reactions and Facts
This sounds great, thanks for giving me a new band to dive into!
The folk metal band Salduie just released their new album if you're looking for some more folk metal to showcase on the channel.
I'm so glad to see you reacted to this! I've had this song stuck in my head and have watched the video at least once each day for the past 5 days.
Since the release this version stucks in my head!😀🔥It s really an earworm/Ohrwurm! 😁Productionwise it could also be from a movie. Love it! Obviously you like it, too!😁😁😁
And once again Alea can't keep his shirt on. :D
I’m fine with it. 😂
I didn't know about Saltatio Mortis before I saw your stuff. Thanks Tank!
Awesome! Glad we’re all discovering music together!
This is a new band for me to check out , thanks man !
This is awesome! I've been a fan of these guys for years and this song came out, I screamed because I've loved it for years! I definitely think you should do Feuerschwanz if you haven't already! Either 'Ding' or 'warriors of the world'. Keep going man, you're wicked!
Done both of them! 🤘
@@TankTheTech I only just found them thank you
Yes, that was absolutely epic ! Excellent reaction Tank. I must go watch the last few seasons of 'Vikings.'
Do iiiiiit.
Tank my dude, I dont think you realise how deep that Rabbit hole is :D :D Cant wait for you to dive into it. I give you about 1 1/2, 2 Years till you´re part of the Joms Vikings :D
But it is a really great and nice rabbit hole. We have cookies in here. And lots of finest music and a billion barrels of best beer in the world. 😉
Another great reaction/review dude! \m/
Great Reaction Tank! What i really really like about your Reactions, it's your outstanding know-how about the Gear! That made you pretty Special! 🤟
Thank you Tank for this react. 💪
More reaction of Saltatio Mortis would be great, I love that band.^^
respekt for learning the band name right.... the first american who said it right^^ thumbs up
I try my hardest to get names right when I’m learning about bands. 🤘
Just wanted to say that you got really good at pronouncing Saltatio Mortis;) love your videos
When you say you're in folk metal please check out "Faun - Walpurgisnacht"! The history behind that is that in medieval times people belived that witches gathered at this night to summon / meet the devil. Great song, I bet you'll like it, it's completely in German but the video speaks for itself.
Checked it out on my last Twitch stream, actually, and really liked it!
I was just about to recommend this masterpiece for you but I see that you're a man of culture and already planned on reacting to it.
So pumped, waiting for 6:30 pm! \m/
Great reaction to this amazing song.
Loki, you must see Loki! The video, the lyrics, the story. Tank, you will be a big fan of the song!
I vote for "Saltatio Mortis - Spielmannsschwur (Live auf dem W:O:A 2017)" as your next reaction. You need to see them live Tank and this will give you the full on life SaMo energy. This is mostly the last song they performe at a concert and always a highlight on every concert.
This!
@@kriegstenicht3502 Thirding this! Also as someone said above, Löwenherz is a great song with an interesting video.
There is nothing over a Saltatio Live performance :D
My Mother told me is a song sung in Egil's Saga taking place between ca 850-1000CE. The oldest known fragment is from approximate 1240CE, it is believed to have been composed by Snorri Sturluson who partial composed the Prose Edda.
So excited for that reaction, can't wait for the premiere 😍
I love the the way you react to the Songs and the Informations about the Guitars I get by this Reactions. Just saying, in my opinion the best Music Reaction Videos on UA-cam! 🔥 And by the way you said its a bit like a Live ShowGermany from "Heilung", so just an Fun Fact one of the Warriors in Heilung is my uncle xD.
Love from Germany :) ❤
Thanks a ton!
Great introduction to the band! Thank you, Tank! And Hail from Russia 🤘🏻
I've enjoyed every version I've heard, but when I first heard this version I got goosebumps.
The fact that the video makes you tear up makes me tear up
Thanks for the reaction :D i think you are deep down the Rabbit Hole XD
Fun band. I saw them open for Powerwolf a couple of weeks ago and they were a lot of fun. Tons of energy.
Love that they sing the verses in the original Old Norse, English, and then German. Perfect way to honor a poem that is over 1,000 years old.
That was actually no German. In fact the language is Icelandic. Alea the singer worked with two teachers to get it as right as possible.
Listen to the version of "my mother told me" from Dan Vasc .it's a great metal cover. I love the version from him
Thank you for doing more saltatio mortis.
My four year old son is singing this Song all day long 🤘😅 he loves folk and medival metal Almost as much as you do. Our 6 year old is more into sabaton and slipknot 😉 I think parenting done right so far 🤣
Very nice reaction! And the song is so very nice
Hey, check out 6:13 again ... that's the Heilung guys. I recognized the horns first and then the female vocalist on the far right.
As you have already descended into the German metal hole, please check out the NDH band Eisbrecher with the video - Was ist hier los? (Offizielles Musikvideo - Live 2019).
Both because it is good metal, but also because the video gives great gear shots, and just hits the feels of how much we miss going to live shows
I’ve seen it. I actually love Eisbrecher and have been listening to them for a while.
@@TankTheTech as always you prove to have great taste in music 🤘🏻rock on
@TankTheTech love your channel and been following it for a long time now.
Another recommendation (good and effective, groovy riffs): Tieflader ua-cam.com/video/dMpHs-gJcaE/v-deo.html
I am a True Metaler in my heart, but this is one of my most loved Bands, because, i love medievil, and they where the one , i've startet
Saltatio Mortis are the Kings
Love you guys, mfg from Austria
Tank if you're into folk, medieval and viking stuff then you should check Corvus Corax "Gjallarhorni" with "Intro gjallarhorni" at the beginning. I would love to see your reaction to this powerfull sound. 🙂
Saltatio has actually covered a few Swedish folk songs, one of those "Varulven" (the warewolf) are actually sung in Swedish (which my brother didn't catch until he'd listened to it a few times :P)
100% Agreed, just ordered 2 albums (new to me too)
Sweet music, video, and breakdown as always
Had an old favorite pop up in my spotify today that has a live video:
The ocean- permian, the great dying.
Tank I have to say it again, you're probably the only American who pronounces the Band name correct 🤣🤣
Great version of this song. If you want to check out one of Saltatios own songs, also with Norse theme you need to hear Loki!
Crying bc of the reaction man
Maaan I'm getting old... I discovered them in school more than 12 years ago ^^ That song is the Saltatio Mortis I like the most
Now this... this scratched an itch just right.
awesome! i;ve been listening to this constantly since it came out. i've already been down said rabbit hole and i'm loving this German medieval metal Saltatio Mortis especially. Tanzwut is another band i recommend.
