Lees than a year into my scotch journey and I had to come back to this video because I finally had my first experience with HP, and it happened to be this discontinued 15 yr. I found a single dusty bottle at a local liquor store for $100 and a guy at work split it with me and my what a great first experience! I have a wee bit left I’m saving to share with a good friend of mine but this was def my first treasure find and will hold a special place in my heart! Glad you guys enjoyed it so much too
First of all, great video! I'd like to see your recommendations for various whiskeys from different areas, as like a series. For example, you might start with scotch, and start with the Speyside region or any of the others. Furthermore, you could have a line up of a bunch of Speyside whiskeys and suggest one for budget, quality, starting and if you want to spend a little cash, etc. I believe this would be a good series, as I appreciate watching these videos and I feel like many other people do as well if they want to increase their knowledge for personal reasons, gifts, etc. Finally, you might already have something like this planned, but when I search on UA-cam to find out about a certain group, I just get show one bottle review, that might be too expensive and/ or unavailable. Referring back to my previous question, it would be nice to search a certain whiskey category and have a recent video that shows recommendations for different types of whiskey to meet different requirements.
I have alot of "sweet fruity" scotches. What makes highland park special for me, is the way they balance the fruit of sherry with their own unique peat flavor. That's why i drink highland park. I never had highland park 18 but it sounds the most intriguing.
What a brilliant line up with the discontinued 15 and the 1st fill sherry cask strength bottling--Good to get everyone's view on the 18--sounds like it is still a good buy.
Full Volume might be my favorite HP release since they discontinued the older version of the core in favor of all the Viking nonsense. HP's distillate is sublime, IMO, and FV showcases it beautifully with that nice 17yo maturity. Give me this over any of their cheaply sherry-doped releases any day. Your saving grace was picking the 15 in first place, i have a couple of those bunkered still. Really nice bottle. =)
Love your vids and reviews guys! I'm a big Highland Park fan. Have you tried the Cask Strength Release No. 1 yet? My favorite so far. I bought 2 more after I tasted it the first time.
Guys, I would recommend some easy-ish acquire sherry bomb if you guys enjoy that HP store pick. Tamdhu Cask Strength and Glen Goyen Cask Strength are easy to find in so cal and are definitely a treat.
Just bought a bottle of the Single Cask Heart of it All which was done specifically for Ohio..13 yo Refill Sherry Butt..578 bottle run. 63.2% ABV…It may be my favorite Highland Park..and yes..the touch of H2O does really change the flavor profile. If you can handle the proof…try your first dram neat…then try another with water…
Im wondering if the cask strength blew out your palates for the full volume? It’s pretty flavorful to me. Only have the 12, 18, and full volume though.
Well, i have already bought 5 Foursquares, 3 Knobcreek store picks and a Tears of Llorona, might as well get the Highland series... When are you guys going to start reviewing more things you don’t like.
Great review. But should have done the Full Volume before the Single Barrel. Personally I think the Full Volume is better than the 12, 15, and 18. You lose a ton of subtlety because of doing the 66% ABV first.
Yeah - it probably would have been a good one to start with. It definitely wasn't bad - it was enjoyable for sure, just very different from the rest of the lineup.
Hey Guys… Wish I was there in the 4 chair! I’m having a hard time finding varieties of single malt scotch in my area and what they do have is priced on the high side. What places online could you recommend for buying scotch at reasonable prices?
Highland Park 12 was my first scotch too, just bought it this week actually. The flavors in it are fascinating to me, I've never tasted anything like it, but am looking forward to trying more. The viking thing feels kind of silly though.
Great Drink-Through! Just one note, maybe you mentioned it and I missed it, but be careful of overvaluing color when comparing scotches. Highland Parks’ P/R materials say they don’t use coloring, but many scotch producers do (and it’s completely legal there, unlike in American Bourbon).
Great drink through! I just saw HP Single Cask Series Kirkwall at a big box retailer for $165. First fill oak sherry puncheon at 64.5% but 11 years instead of 12. Maybe it's similar to the single barrel in the review? I'm a fan of Highland Park so tempted by this...
My first single malts were Glenlivet and Glenfiddich but we are talking about ~35 years ago when availability was a lot less. But in all that time I've never had a Highland Park, never known anyone who drank it. I've got 40 Scotches but no Highland Park. Might have to get one.
I have the K&L 10 year CS store pick as well as the 12 and the 10 is peatier but less sherry. $140 for the 10 . David at K&L liked the 10 better. I think they may still have some
Which one did you like better id there a big difference with the 2 extra years? Was looking at that 10 year but idk if it would be like dillon 100/100 lol since its younger
Hmm. That is a great question. I think they’re slightly different beasts. I think HP15 is amazing (old version) but Hibiki 21 finish and mouthfeel will probably win out. I like the punchiness of HP (soft spot for HP) but also love the elegance and mouthfeel and subtle flavors of hibiki. I think score wise, hibiki will eek it out. Cheers! -Dillon
The first scotch And the first whiskey I had was a sip of Laphroaig 28. At the time I didn’t quite realize how special it was as a whisky, ofcourse i understood it was something unusual since the cold war was still going on when that stuff was put in the barrel. And now I realize I can’t afford it🤣 anyway not long time after I got my first bottle of scotch which was a Lagavulin 16. That was 7 years ago.

Drink the Full Volume on a clean palate. It’s really great and unique. Better than the 15 and 18 IMO.

HP 15, 18 and the Dark Origin are fantastic. I can't wait to get my hand on the CS that just got released.

Awesome Video!! Check out the Highland Park 16 Twisted Tattoo!
Great line of Whiskey to review. Keep up the great work guys. Happy Holidays!
Cheers! Thank you, and happy holidays to you as well.
The Full Volume is such a complex, unique and tropical dram, much better than the 12, 15 and 18 year old ones.
Love your vids and reviews guys! I'm a big Highland Park fan. Have you tried the Cask Strength Release No. 1 yet? My favorite so far. I bought 2 more after I tasted it the first time.
Thanks! Yes - we've got a review of the Cask Strength coming soon.
I have been interested in trying highland park. I will likely start with a sampler bottle when I find them.

Love those single casks!

Where do you see if it's a 1st fill or second for the wild rose ? All I see is the refill hogshead on the top right of the label.
Great review. But should have done the Full Volume before the Single Barrel. Personally I think the Full Volume is better than the 12, 15, and 18. You lose a ton of subtlety because of doing the 66% ABV first.

I may have to go out and get a single cask first fill now.

I'm Curious how the Magnus goes with this group of bottles?
The Highland Park lineup is usually rated high in blind tastings, especially the 12 and 15.

Yup - definitely aware of this! It is also rampant in rum and tequila unfortunately.
Enjoying the 15 while I watch this review. Cheers!
HP Cask Strength arrived a month or so ago - around $80 @ 126 proof. Curious on your guys' takes.
Got a review coming soon!
Cask is the only one you need!

I have the Kirkwall. Loving it so far. You have to let it open up and in a few days, it's a fruit sherry bomb. Cheers
@@rangeradams Thanks. Will get a bottle!
The Highland Park single cask is also European Oak! Yummy
Loving the new cask strength. Please review.
Highland Park Drinkthrough: It's a tough job but somebody has to do it.
HP 12 for $35 is a great value.
If you want a Sherry bomb: Longrow 14 Sherry, Hazelburn 13 or 14 Olorosso. Blows the HP 18 out of the water.
My first single malts were Glenlivet and Glenfiddich but we are talking about ~35 years ago when availability was a lot less. But in all that time I've never had a Highland Park, never known anyone who drank it. I've got 40 Scotches but no Highland Park. Might have to get one.

What is significant about 06/12/1987?
I really enjoy HP, but it's getting pricey. $60 for the 12yo, $120 for the new 15yo, $170 for the 18yo. (NC prices, June 2022)
I have the K&L 10 year CS store pick as well as the 12 and the 10 is peatier but less sherry. $140 for the 10 . David at K&L liked the 10 better. I think they may still have some

@@MrPsiman also saw a 13 year single cask california what your thoughts between those 2?
@@ebaboxing are you talking about the Mortlach and the Dalmore ?

Do you guys think HP 15 could compete in blind against Hibiki 21...Or the flavors similar?

What's the best way to support you guys, through youtube, subscribe star, patreon?
Right now the best way is though UA-cam with the membership/join button. Thanks!
Would love to try that K&L pick
They brought a second case in but was sold out in 30 sec. They said they’re on track to have another shipment later this year. -Dillon
Dutch, pick up the glass, tilt it around 30 degree and pour with the bottle making contact with the glass rem. It's really not that difficult.
I think Whisky Papa has been telling him since the guild days. hahah
@@rangeradams lol. Some things never change.
Dillion how could you drink this? Proof is like water.
You forgot to adjust the tracking on the intro.
There is also the 10yo and I like it more than the 12yo. The 10yo is not so sweet and the peat is a bit stronger.
What is the significance of June 12, 1987?
Man, I had a bottle of the new 15 (ceramic bottle) on hand and put it back on the shelf 🤦🏻♂️
CAn you provide more color on why?
145 dollars single cask. 150 18 year old. 100 15 year old. 12 year old 40. Just buy 12
More of a crossroad than a circle... 😂
I just paid $60 for the 12 lmao
