I just picked up the 1920 after having the 1910 for the first time this year and falling in love with it. I have heard lots of other reviewers trashing the Statesman. Your review is the most different I've heard.
Comparing OF 100 to the rest of their lineup is a rabbit hole because their 86 proof, the 100 proof and their rye are some of the best values in bourbon. Try blending the three as you can come up with some great blends! Great video!
So I've been struggling to figure out what it is about OF1920 that hits me wrong most of the time. You NAILED it: the "tanic finish." Most days I just can't get past it. Some days though, depending on what I've been drinking before, it neutralizes that characteristic and 1920 is pure nectar. Butterscotch, chocolate covered orange rinds and dark red fruit - heavenly. Thanks team, and keep up the good work!
Awesome drinkthrough! I've only had the 1920 and I love it! I've heard the barrel picks are only 4 years old! Apparently their whiskeys age "faster" because they heat cycle the warehouses.
Epic video. oddly enough ive been hanging to get a 1920 but can't get it here in Australia but can get the Statesman. Gonna go get one tommorow now. Thanks heaps guys!!
Wrote the last comment after Dutch's opinion lmao I can see how it takes up a lot of space but its very unique compared to others. Definitely a great talking piece!
This was the Drinkthrough (tm) I was waiting for! But, dang, didn't think there was this much in the lineup, if even so, hats off for taking one for the team and going through them... wish I had access to Statesman in my market.... all I get is the occasional 1920 which I like, but because of the strength, is not an everyday for me.
Best value high proof choices outside of 1920(Rare Breed/KC single store pick and ECBP) Stagg Jr priced too high now. OF is killing it with their offerings!
Awesome, been waiting on this one. I agree with most of what was said. Never had the Statesmen though. Always walk right by it in the store, so I’m going to have to check that out. I always have a 1920 on my shelf.
Statesman is one of my favorites. The downside is the age, where you can tell on the finish but the core flavor profile is birthday bourbon for me. And for ~$50. Cheers! -Dillon
I love the 1910 and the 1920. I've seen the statesman but haven't picked it up yet cause I can get 1920 for the same price and it's hard for me to imagine the statesman being better than the 1920. Your video has convinced me to try the statesman next time I see it. Good vid guys.
Now, I will have to try Statesman. I have avoided it since OF1920 is in the same price tier & one of my go tos. Some price points get too crowded and the 55-65 just has too many options.
Man, looking at this line up surprise me how many of them I actually had. And I don't even think I like Old Forester. 1910 is my favorite so far with 1920 very close behind. Only Birthday Bourbon I had was 2018 and I wasn't a big fan of it.
@@timisoutdoors Haha, if I actually own that bottle, I would probably end up giving away. But no, I had it during a tasting in a bar in Pasadena. Very glad I tried it before I spend that kind of money on it.
Thank you! Been waiting for this. I have 1910, 1920, and Statesman on the bar. I also have the 100 proof Rye and Bourbon, but just use them for cocktails. I think that Old Forester has some of the best bang for the buck Bourbons on the market. I would love to see a blind tasting - it would definitely be entertaining.
Not that OF has a deep Rye lineup but you are missing the OF100 Rye and OF barrel pick rye. I'm not as high on the OF100 rye as many others but I still really want to get my hands on the single barrel. The 100 feels flat and the extra proof might bring some life to the bottle.
Nice overview, I get one of these bottles in Europe, the first Signature 100 Proof for about 50$ in the 1l bottle. I think Old Forester doesn't give shit for the market here.
Let us know what you think. For my part, I find it to be overlooked by the community (although in our circles, it’s still a favorite). The Drinkthrough, where you can directly compare with other dram in various permutations, reinforced my love of it. Cheers! -Dillon
This was great! I think there could be a possible answer to something you guys talked about a few times. You mentioned some of those not having an age statement, pretty sure I saw Jackie Zykan talk about it’s tricky for Old Forester to age state bottles due to the fact they “heat cycle” and it creates almost a “false” age for the lack of better term on my part. 🤷♂️
Just picked up the OF 1920 yesterday I've had the OF 100 and the OF Rye. I'm with Dutch on the 1920 for me the Oak was more intense I was expecting more brown sugar and baking spice... I'll try another pour tonight.
So guys it my birthday this weekend and I'm going to Frankfort to see the buffalo trace Distillery and th go whiskey shopping. If you all were to pick a whiskey for your birthday under 60 buck what would it be.
In this order,, 1. Blanton for the looks... ( sometimes they have at the shop) 2. eagle rare for the hood smooth. Very tasty mellow. 10 year does make a difference. :) 3. Eh Taylor for total package. Bonded, taste, packaging... 4. Weller preserve for uniqueness and rare bottle to find. 5. Bufflio trace bourbon to mix drinks or add to cooking... Extra stuff Get Bufflio cream fir coffee, vodka for show off. Mr. Freddie Root beer for cool drink! Bufflio trace Cigar..
I too was a bit let down by barrel strength Old Forester. A bit too hot with a flavor profile that doesn’t quite match the proof. Still good though, just not ECBP level good. Wish I could find more 90 proof store picks of these.
Hey guys, Is Cooper Craft 100 proof available in your area? Get a bottle, open it and taste it - it is hot! Put it back on the shelf an sample it at one month and two month intervals. By two months, it starts showing its George Forman heritage. You like OF 100, you might seriously like this whiskey. Also, the 86 proof Cooper Craft is filtered, so it is smooth and soft. So the 86 proof is great for light drinks like neat or in a high ball.
@@CuriosityPublic This is what the Google told me: "The very first item ever scanned at retail by a barcode was a 10-pack of Wrigley’s Juicy Fruit chewing gum in a grocery story in Troy, Ohio, in 1974. From that moment on, it wasn’t until the mid 1980s that barcodes became standard ways for retailers to ring up sales and track inventory, and now they are ubiquitous.
I do like the BiB to sip on, but the problem is the price point. Both the 1870 and 1897 need to come down in price for what they are. Heck, I feel like all the Whiskey Row series should come down in price. Otherwise, OF100 all day because it works for sipping and mixing. The 90proof SiB might be my favorite overall. Still need to try Statesman and never even seen a Birthday Bourbon...
Man I cannot wrap my head around you guys placing statesmen that high! I think that one is my least favorite.. way too young. I think you guys need to try a few different barrels proofs because I’ve had some realllllly good ones
I don't understand the Statesman. I'm not getting the honey y'all describing. I get a sharp baking spice that I don't enjoy. Maybe it's just the fresh neck pour. I prefer the 1920 by a long shot for now. I find it interesting that it's a unanimous decision for Statesman between the three of you.
Kind of a complaint, but the 100-proof Signature bottle you started with is no longer made; the new bottle is just "OF 100." I have both the old and new bottles and the older one (like you have) is very different (and leagues better) than the new bottle.
Gotta do it blind. I’d guarantee the 1920 would win. Also what you guys don’t talk about is the wild variances that the Barrel Proof picks have had. The right pick has the possibility to destroy all these.
I still can't understand why they dropped the label on the Signature 100 that they sampled first. It was classic, Old West. The new paper label just doesn't do it for me. 🤕
It was a bummer after getting my barrel proof pick from my local shop which they oringally thought/advertised as 8 yrs and then had to issue a statement that it was only "at least 4"... I don't get why OF isn't putting age statements on these SiBs unless they did a horrible job tracking ahead of bottling. I will never pay $80 for one again without knowing they are at least 8-10 years.
@@CuriosityPublic yea oddly enough, I was able to snag 3 GTS this year for all decent pricing, but the birthday bourbon and the pappy stuff in my area of New England were all priced sky high
I wonder why the Statesman got bashed so much when it came out. Watching others' reviews my experience just doesn't line up with their notes. Do you think the current one has changed much from the original release? Is it maybe the same barrels that were set aside a few years ago, but now they've aged longer?
Perhaps confirmation bias against liquor based on a mediocre movie tie in, complicated by groupthink? Not really sure. I asked Buffalo trace and production method has not changed. -Dillon
Of all the bourbon videos I've watched, you guys are the only ones who like the Statesman.
Agreed.. I was surprised with that also

Love the DrinkThroughs, OF is my favorite line of bourbons, great way to start the year guys.
Nobody breaks it down like you guys. Thank you for your service.

I just picked up the 1920 after having the 1910 for the first time this year and falling in love with it. I have heard lots of other reviewers trashing the Statesman. Your review is the most different I've heard.
To me the 1920 is close to Henry McKenna bib, and 1910 is close to Woodford double oaked! I do love the 1920, will try to get the Statesman!
Love this content! New to the channel! Love the OF line, 1910 & 1920 preferred. For me the 1920 is great value here in my area for 46.00
Great job! Having a pour of OF single barrel barrel proof store pick as I watch. Cheers fellas!🥃

Yep. I just got the 86 proof for $16. Love OF
Have really fallen for the OF Rye lately - such a bomb for a sub $25 bottle…
love the content as always but man you guys really needed to have that Old Forester Rye! One of the best budget Ryes out there!
Agreed! It is a fantastic rye. We'll do a review of it in the future!
Long time viewer since the old channel. Love the DrinkThrough. Keep it up!
I prefer the casual feel of this channel vs the your more serious Bourbon Guild channel. Feels more like people I would want to drink with.
I love this stuff and have at least 1 of each in my stash fro the RV to share around a campfire
1919's amazing (mix 1910 & 1920).
You get the flavors of '10 with the strength of '20 blended in bliss.
