Thanks for the video. I’ve always thought it was a bit nuts to shell out for a Rolex when there are so many amazing watches available in the $1000-$2500 range, but the Explorer 40mm really has me reconsidering that position. What an incredible timepiece.
I had those same exact thoughts when I first started collecting watches, but after wearing a Rolex timepiece and experiencing how accurate, durable and truly special they are. It has made me reconsidering that position. Cheers
Another great video!! Love the content and your attitude towards your watches being tools. I’m loving my explorer 1&2! Please keep the great videos coming!!
I have a 7 1/4” ish wrist and I needed to put my 126610 half link on the Exp 40mm to get the right fit. My exact “settings” are 4 links on the 6 o’clock side and 6 1-2 links on the 12 o’clock side with micro adj in the middle location and ez link in. I actually had to make a frikking chart to really get it right. 3mm is a significant change in a watch fit. Ideally they would have a shorter glide lock in the Explorer. They put the t-fit in the Tudor Ranger so they definitely know it would be better here too.
Interesting, I have about the same size wrist and my fit like a dream after removing one link, but I like a thigh fitting watch. Yes I do wish they the Rolex GlideLock bracelet on all there watches.
today is my 2 week birthday of my explorer 40. Seems to run slow when I wear it during the day by about 2 seconds or more by bedtime. I take it off at night, and it doesn't lose any time by morning.
Good video again. Great looking watch, as I said before. For my wrist a little bit too small. And no date… So I‘m still going with the SUB and the EXP II polar into the adventures to come. PROST!
Greetings. What are your thoughts on the 40mm Explorer vs. the 41mm OP in black? I like the size of the OP as well and the fact it has a brushed bracelet.
Both are great watches and same movement (I believe) so its down to personal taste. I personally like the looks and fell of the Explorer 40 as well as it fits better into my collection with the smaller sizing, since I already have three 41mm watches. Cheers
My decision came down to the Explorer 40 vs. the OP41 silver dial with gold indices. I ended up trading the OP for the explorer 40. The 40 was just a little bit smaller which I liked better for a watch without a rotating bezel. The OP is awesome and, in many ways, I prefer the bubble style bezel on the OP over the flat on the explorer 40. But the explorer 40 appealed more to me because of the flip lock clasp, larger crown, and black lacquer dial. I only really wear one watch so I wanted the flip lock. If the OP had flip lock, it'd be a tough decision. You can't go wrong with either.
Finally a video! Very interesting as usual. This watch is not my favorite of your collection because I find it too small. I much prefer your Explorer 2. I will never understand those who swear by the Explorer 36mm. I like to feel my tool watches and I am used to my Planet Ocean and my MM300. To each his own I guess !
Yeah, I'm in the same camp of feeling that bigger sizing and heft of a tool watch, but I'm finding myself more and more reaching for that Rolex Explorer 40 because of the comfort that smaller sizing provides. Cheers
I agree with you. I like a heavier/larger feeling watch. I have about a 7" wrist. I really like the heft of the Tudors as well. In particular the BB Chronograph and the size of the Pelagos 42. I have a BB GMT and at 41, it is not overly large, however, it is a big and heavy watch....which I do enjoy.
@@georgetown8986 Some say it's boring but I like it that way. For me, it's the look of the old Subs but with today's quality. The best of both worlds. Plus, my METAS-certified movement gains one second in three days and resists 15,000 gauss, 15 times more than the Rolex Milgauss.
Top man. I will be putting my submariner on a rubber-b tang buckle strap soon. Am very interested to see how it feels as my sea master 300 feels great on rubber.
Ps. It may be smaller than the Submariner but the real estate on the face of the watch is bigger and more legible. I love mine. In my opinion a tool watch should remain unnoticed. The last thing you need is for it to become a distraction from the task at hand.
@@cheynewalls anyways your reviews definitely give fascinating and practical insights to the utlility of a luxury watch. I really enjoy watching your videos!!!
My 39mm Explorer is my daily driver. No one knows what it is unless they are a watch enthusiast. Sure, the Rolex fans will call it boring, but I think they miss the point of the watch. It’s not supposed to be a jubilee bracelet, fluted bezel, bling bling attention hog.
Dude, add some variety to your collection! Rolex is allright but the collection is so one dimensional and boring. If you're going to keep your collection at the mid level range, definitely add a couple Omegas or maybe a JLC or Zenith. Soooomething to add variety. I own a current sub and GMT blnr and appreciate them for what they are: mid level tool watches. I get so much joy from my Omegas, GS, and JLCs as well with different dial varieties! By the way, none of these are haute horology. Not even close. Rolex, Omega, Breitling , Zenith, etc are all mid level mass produced watches. Great watches for sure but far from haute horology. Haute horology u have to go to Lange, Gronefeld, Patek, FP Journe, etc.
@blakehirsch1022 this comment comes off a bit condescending. He’s got an incredible collection of watches that anyone would be lucky to own. I think every collection needs a basis of simplicity and timelessness before varied designs and flashy colors catch the eye.
Gotta love it when one guy tells another guy what he should be collecting. Buy what you like and enjoy and don’t even consider what other people think. What a douche.
