It’s obvious to me why they call this watch the Explorer 40mm. Just two years before they discontinued the 39mm Explorer and went back to the 36mm. Unfortunately for them this backfired as most people thought it was too small so they hurriedly introduced the bigger watch, however they couldn’t call it the 39mm Explorer as that would be a blatant admission they’d made a huge mistake. Hence they’ve brought it back as the 40mm when in fact all they’ve done is updated the old 39mm watch.
@@PerthWAtch I don’t think it’s a scam, one should always try a watch on before buying to check how it fits you, they can call it what size they want as far as I am concerned as long as it’s ballpark correct. I don’t think the Datejust 41 is 41 mm either. Nor is the Explorer 36mm it is 35mm.
You think a company deliberately and knowingly advertising something that is objectively not what it claims is ok. I don’t. You can have your view, and I can have mine. All good 👍
I only wear 34-35mm to 37mm watches. But I have normal size forearms and wrists and yes, my watches look small. I just have a different idea of what a wristwatch should be and look, I don’t like the concept of going out with something noticeable. So I would go with the 36mm on this model.
It‘s personal preference. I generally favor 36mm over 40mm and larger because i feel it’s more elegant and less obtrusive. Comfy and I don’t bang it on as many things, which arguably makes sense in a sports watch. That said, I also own 40mm watches that I love and a 42mm Tudor FXD, which sits flat and is lightweight and I therefore enjoy in spite of its case size and because I wanted something large, blue, sporty and different.

By the way, I own the 36mm model and love it. I wish they had kept the old measurements that they still have on the 36 OP and DJ instead of slimming down the case, lug and clasp width, as it is almost a bit too delicate…. But whenever I wear it for a couple of days, I find myself not wanting to take it off☺️
Depends on your perspective. I've a 36mm with Acrylic and hollow end links, makes a watch that is 110 grammes, you barely notice it's there. All the subsequent ones look huge and the flat sapphire changes the character entirely, they do nothing for me.
As a 40 wearer I also like the look of the thick acrylic crystals of yesterday. I also like how the nice ones catch a little rim of light where they are raised about the bezel. Sometimes I think it’s be cool if they’d go a little thicker. Having said that, I do find it funny how under every UA-cam video of the 40, you’ll find an offended 36 wearer. Whereas I think the 36 and 40 are both super cool watches.
I’m a first time watcher of your content and wanted to give your video a thumbs up, but after watching it through the entire way to find out that the ‘scam’ was just the size, I couldn’t do it - I guess I felt your clickbaity title was the real scam here.
Do you think it’s ok for a company to incorrectly and knowingly state something that is 100% objectively wrong? Guess I just have a different view on that to you. Also, do you know what “click bait” means? Coz this ain’t it.
I tried on this 40mm or technically 39mmm watch and it does seat larger than my 39mm watch (MK2). I have a 6.5 inch wrist I think it fits me perfectly - in that case the 39mm propably measures smaller too! I do prefer my 39mm especially the matt black dial over the gloss dial. Either way all explorers are the best - enjoy yours 😊
Thanks for sharing - yes, they are great watches. But… seems like there’s no need to guess here, why don’t you go ahead and measure yours and let us know what the true case size is?
Thanks for that. The case sides are rounded and slippery, so it's tricky to hold a calliper steady in position there but best as I can make it out it's about 39.4mm.
2:25 Explorer is a very classic watch, with black dial, three hands and large mark 369, always the same. Easy wearing and good looking, not too difficult to get one. Whether it's 36, 39 or 40, I like ROLEX Explorer. ( I have a Explorer 40, which is already the watch I wear most often when I go out.)
It's crazy that they won't bring glidelock to these clasps. in the past they updated clasp technology as it was available, even in the middle of a models lifespan. The easylink is better than nothing, but it's such a big incremental change that it's not particularly useful. I'd honestly rather just have five drilled micro adjusts like you used to on the stamped clasps.
Yeah fair point there - I wouldn’t have liked if they stuck to stamped clasps but the functionality of the micro-adjust was certainly better than this in many ways.
It’s a light watch I own one myself, the easy link is adequate as you can wear it a bit looser. I also own a Sub which is a bulkier and heavier watch so the glidelock there is a great feature but it’s a non issue to me that it’s omitted on the 40mm Explorer. In fact I took both watches on holiday to Tenerife several weeks back and the Sub went in safe after a few days as I was enjoying the comfort of the Explorer 40 more, you don’t notice you are wearing it.
@PerthWAtch The Explorer name is at the top because they wanted to go back to how it was originally. The bracelet is lacking the Glidelock which is a shame, especially as they could have simply used the same bracelet as the current Submariner which is also 21mm
Nice vid. The bracelet link observation is interesting - I just picked up an Explorer 2 black dial (2 year wait to get), and it fit perfectly with one link removed. I have an 18.5 wrist so I’m thinking some guys bigger than me might struggle. The Explorer 2 is also a bit smaller than advertised (42) at 41.5, it wears like a 41 many brands. Very thin (easily under a dress cuff, which matters if you work in an office). I’d suggest anyone thinking about a Rolex to go into an AD and try the display models. Not every watch suits every wrist. I used to own the 39 Explorer and it always looked an odd size, a bit small for me (I’m 6’2) but it was too large my son (who is 5’10, slimmer than me). A very particular fit that doesn’t work for everyone, despite what some people claim. A simple sports watch has to be just right size wise for your wrist, too small and you don’t notice it / enjoy it, too large and it’s awkward.
There are plenty of videos showing people measure exactly that and not get 36mm or 40mm on these Rolex models. …same for the new Subs that are called 41mm but are more like 40.5mm
I believe that saying it is a scam is a little harsh. As motorcycles CCs are never the round numbers; 250, 500, 750. The only one that puts out there is Ducati with, 748, 848, 851, 1098, 1198, you get my drift. I wander what the Explorer 39mm measures. Thank you for your video
“Scam” is somewhat intentional hyperbole, but the point stands - Rolex deliberately lied about this to artificially differentiate it from the previous model, which is actually very close to the stated 39mm.
I have the previous 39. I absolutely love it. And I prefer it to my Sub, and Datejust most of the time. It flies under the radar. IYKYK. And that is a good thing for those of us who don’t always want to advertise that we are wearing a Rolex.
@@PerthWAtch I guess it is a true 39. Not sure I can measure within 1 mm. I rather suspect that the new 40 is the exact same, If not, they very slightly thickened the bezel. It really is the perfect watch. And this comes from someone that has more expensive Rolexes & others.
@@PerthWAtch thanks! I try to keep mine in as close to showroom condition as I can. I wear it under sleeves when practical, and I lightly buff (not overly polish) scratches out of the bezel. I figure that stainless steel is not a precious metal, and it looks amazingly better when it is clean and shiny. I don’t allow dirt and grime to stay in the bracelet & grind on the pins; rather I clean with a toothbrush regularly.
I’ve just received the call to collect one .. just need to decide if it’s going to fit my lifestyle . I wanted a sub initially but not sure it’s as versatile as I would need it to be, hence the explorer option.
@ yes I certainly did… in the metal it just felt perfect , it surprised me how effortlessly it wears. Pure class and elegance in a tooly presentation I think. Not showy, not blingy , just understated beauty. I’m over the moon .
I own this watch. It’s great! I do find it a bit small. Prefer a little larger watch. I was able to get it from AD after 3 month wait. I think it’s one of the easier professional models to obtain.
It’s refreshing to find a Rolex which is easily available at retail here in the U.K. thankfully this model also sells under retail on the secondary. Nice piece, although I have an Omega Railmaster in rotation, so it’s not one I’m tempted to get. Enjoy it.
Thanks for the comment - I’m jealous you can find this easily at retail… and also that it sells under retail there! It’s not like that in most places AFAIK
@@PerthWAtch I guess it’s only certain markets at present, given it available to buy in AD windows here in the U.K, I am sure it will eventually be the wider case everywhere else.
Love the review. Quite easy to enjoy video with the image of the perfect watch (IMHO) on the screen the whole time & not the presenter’s face steeling screen-time.
Oh I’m sure I can find a position where it measures exactly 40mm (say start at 1:58:13 position perhaps!) but that’s not the point is it? Old Subs measure near exactly 40mm across 3-9, and almost every watch I’ve handled measure at 3-9 as claimed. We all know Rolex was deceptive about this.
Thanks for the review. I could be very happy with this watch, lol. (I previously owned an Exp 39 Mk1 w/shorter hands, & non-lumed 3-6-9 indices.) Liked & subscribed.
Nothing says "I wanted a cool Rolex sportswatch, but I had to wait years for a Daytona. So I bought an Explorer 1". This watch screams "I've settled for something lesser than I wanted".
That is a very subjective statement and only true, if you did indeed settle. The Explorer is the Rolex that first got me into Rolex and I still absolutely love the understated elegance and functionality of this simple model. So much so, that I actually own two of them and would get a vintage 1016 too, if the prices had not skyrocketed😄 i also own other models and am waiting for two more. Still I don’t believe I would ever grow tired of the Explorer 1 or my 40mm Explorer 2, even if many people don’t consider them „hot“ pieces
I think the 40mm measurement is including the bulging out of the sides of the case. The bezel may be 38.9 but I think it’s slightly bigger when measuring the bulge of the case. It still may not be a full 40mm but I think it gets closer. Same with the 36mm, it’s more like 35.5mm. Another possibility is that it was 40mm to start with the casting mold, and once polished down, it’s a little smaller. I’m not defending their actions, but thinking of potential reasons. Also, we know they are master marketers, so more than likely it’s about how to label the watch for the most sales.
Measuring the case itself doesn’t change the figure in any appreciable way. Most likely the real reason is that they didn’t want to look like fools for discontinuing the 39mm model, then having to reintroduce it as majority of people didn’t want the 36mm model they replaced it with. So instead of admitting they are bringing it back, they lie by telling us this is a 40mm when it clearly isn’t.
nice review nothing but praise for this watch but whats the scam that rolex has stated 40mm did you measure the case between 2 and 8 and have you contacted rolex and asked them how they got 40mm
Thanks. I have never ever seen a watch description mean 2 to 8 o'clock when indicating case size... and neither does Rolex mean this. Neither does this watch measure 40mm when you measure in that odd dimension. See various other comments for discussion on this.
Easlylink rapid extension system is the best thing for me since sliced bread. My 19.8 cm wrist will change throughout the day to over 20.0 cm (and back) depending on activity and ambient temperatures. Such a useful feature for me that I use it about 6 to 8 times a day. I love it so much that I plan to order the aftermarket Steel Reef version for my other watch that doesn't come with one from Rolex.
I can't really agree that it's a perfectly refined design. I've owned a few Explorer's, 36mm and 39mm, and there is always something off about the whole proportions of the things. I want it to be the perfect watch. I wish it were the perfect watch. But it just never quite looks right 😕
@@PerthWAtch I actually think what it is, is the wideness of the polished flat bezel juxtaposed against the flat brushed bland looking lugs, when viewed from straight on. It's never been visually appealing to me. Whereas on my Datejust, the smaller, domed bezel looks beautiful against the sculptured polished lugs.
@@1000lightyrs Luckily the entire bezel will look brushed after a few a few weeks of wear. These things lose their lustre quickly. Grand Seiko polishing, for example, is like a good haircut, it only lasts a few weeks.
Hi Ivan. I absolutely agree with you about having (or giving) a glide-lock and 20mm lug to make the watch near perfect. But at least for me, if they can use the "sword hour hand", THAT would make it really perfect. (never was a big fan of Mercedes Rolex hand, ha ha). Perhaps that was why I was partial to Ginault models..... Ivan reviewing a Rolex????? honestly, very surprised.....Anyway, good day, Ivan!
Haha thanks for that - yeah many of us are sick and tired of one Mercedes hand after another… but it’s so quintessential here it didn’t even hit my radar!
Thanks for the comment! It’s beautiful in its simplicity for sure. For me, I find that extension makes it far too loose on the wrist to be practical, but others do find it useful.
Yep, its definitely not 40mm! I measure mine at 38.5mm and I felt conned when I realised! Tissot Gentleman measures a true 40mm. Interestingly I measured an OP41 as 39.5mm, which is also 1.5mm short. I have been trying to find out what the Explorer 36 and 39 measure. If the 39 is 39mm it really will be a scam!! It is also super scratchable. I did not know that resin callipers could scratch a watch until I measured it!
Thanks for the confirm. My goodness, yours scratched with resin callipers?? Mine have plastic contacts.. thankfully didn't scratch the precious delicate 904L 😂😂
@@PerthWAtch Mine say 'Carbon Fiber Composites Digital Caliper' and it scratched the watch really badly lol. Luckily I wear it as a daily and hope to live to have it serviced lol.
Given that Rolex can’t be trusted on this and all the watch blogs also seem to be oblivious (or worse, knowingly lie) about this, I really don’t know! 🤷🏻♂️
Always thought these look odd. If the dial had 12-3-6-9 it would look more balanced. IMHO the plain oyster looks much better and you get a choice of dial colours. Infact I'd go as far as to say the explorer is a bit of a rip off.
Rolex... Where is the white dial?.. and for the 40mm version, please move the Explorer text back to the southern part of the dial right above the superlative chrono writing. Yes, just like the previous 39. Thanks for the vid, man.
Good points! I suspect Rolex will hold back on doing a white dial in this model for the sake of not “shooting themselves in the foot”… like not giving a rotating bezel in the Explorer II to avoid making the GMT Master II obsolete, etc. but yeah that’s a different facet. White dial with black hands and indices would look interesting for sure.
Did someone tell you those are the same thing? That’s “fake news” 😆 Nearly 500 comments and I’m pretty sure you’re the only who has said that “Explorer” at the top is better…
@@PerthWAtch Yeah, well, those comments also call you a liar for the clickbait "scam" headline, and yet here we are. Disagree on dissing the 21mm lug width though. 21mm looks better on every single watch that has it! Gives more taper options, and its plain silly to want a less attractive design just because cheap straps cannot be bothered to make a 21mm option. That's like the cart leading the horse lol. GMT-Master II looks dated as 40/20, but new Sub looks great IMO. Re. the 'Explorer' text positioning. I think the best solution would be to put 'Oyster Perpetual' under the pinion with the other two lines, or even have a large Coronet (similar design to 3,6,9) at 12 o'clock in place of the triangle.
Thanks for sharing your personal opinions - agree re: dial layout possibilities. Totally disagree in your perception of 21mm lugs and its purported “excellence”. This is nothing objective about what you have said - many if not most people say that 20mm looks and works better.
@@PerthWAtch People never say that lol. They just come out with the usual strap availability nonsense. Most people saying it are just repeating what they hear others say anyway. Most people do not even see the visual difference. The UK head of Tudor had to go check when I asked him the lug width of the then new Pelagos 39 (the first 21mm lug width Tudor that I could see was 21mm from a photo, and everyone loved). Have never heard anyone say a 21mm watch would look better if 20mm! So many branded watches are 19 or 21mm now, are they all crap? Did Rolex Foundation and the Swatch Group majorly fcuk up all the designs? Confused how you do not see it helps with taper to the clasp, but mainly why you (as a watch guy) thinks a product in which we look at such small differences and nuances of is ok jumping between 18/20/22mm?
Don't post fake news - the majority of people I'm in contact with both online and personally have broad horology experience, and are not simply repeating. Sounds like you're the one parroting what others have told you despite being unable to see a visual difference anyway 😂😂 Why are you talking about Swatch Group and other irrelevancies? I'm referring to THIS watch, not every single watch in the world with a 19 or 21mm lug width - get a grip dude!
@@PerthWAtch Fully gripped here lol. What bit do you feel was fake? I am the original Lug Width Vigilante™ lol. I 100% see the visual difference myself! My AD friend sent me an online image of the Pelagos 39, and I called him straight away, and the first thing I said was that it looked like 21mm lugs ; ) Nobody else is interested in lug width (apart from re cheap aftermarket strap compatibility) as far as I can work out. I told you the head honcho at Tudor had no idea it was 21mm. Pretty much every UA-camr that reviewed it at W&W either did not mention it or incorrectly said it was 20mm. It was widely acclaimed as a great looking watch, yet none of the experts actually knew the main reason lol. I said the UA-cam commenters are repeating nonsense about aftermarket straps. What do your horological buddies have to say about lug width beyond being annoyed some cheap aftermarket strap maker is to lazy to make one extra size to fit all the latest 21mm lugged watch cases? The watch you are talking about has 21mm lugs (as you know) and the reason that I mentioned the others is that its a very popular design choice of late, so you need to respect those brands design choices IMO.
This is fake --> "People never say that lol." Good to know that you're the original Lug Width Vigilante™ - I didn't realise who I was dealing with. Regardless, 20mm lugs will suit this 38.9mm wide case perfectly well. That's the prevailing view that I'm getting, and which I also hold myself. I'll give respect where it's due - but if a brand makes a stupid choice, I'll call it out if I see it. That includes lug width.
For me 40mm is not bad,i would like a 40mm in steel gold,i love this size because 36mm for my eyes make itmore difficult to read that 40mm,that the only reason...
You’re not alone… they are in many ways quite boring, but now that I have had this in hand, I have to say that there is something else there when you handle it, the refinement is difficult to deny even for a skeptic like me
Absolutely man, plenty of people have no taste like you, it’s not uncommon. Luckily there is a diverse range of watches for you to choose from. Might I suggest a iced out Datejust or Hublot for a less boring look.
If UA-cam provided such an opportunity, I would post a photo as proof. I take measurements with a fairly tenacious plastic caliper; of course, it is not a professional measuring device. In my case, it turns out exactly 40mm, and not 39.4 or 39mm.
Again, see other comments - I did that and so did others, and we don’t get 40mm. But that’s actually besides the point; 5-digit subs measure 40mm across 3-9 position as advertised, and every other watch I’ve come across measures 3-9 when they state a case size. I think you know as well as I do Rolex sure don’t mean you should measure 2-8. They lied here, plain and simple.

Towards the end you put the watch on and say it looks perfect. It's great
Seems like you can’t hold two ideas in your head. Like I said, this ain’t click bait. You can try to explain why you think it is if you wish to understand. You will see that you can’t, and it ain’t.
Everything about Rolex is a scam and they can get away with it. It is a completely overrated watch brand. At the beginning of the 1960s, you could buy a GMT Master for approx. $140 - what did you think, they laugh all the way to the bank when someone buys their watches
I did watch it otherwise how could I have quoted? A scam is where someone deliberately misleads to gain money. My 41 sub is actually nearer 40.5 and the Daytona is more like 38mm I really don’t think anyone cares certainly not enough to go back to the AD and say they’ve been scammed.
No I got the point. You gave your film a controversial headline and didn’t reveal your point til right at the end and it turns out that Rolex aren’t scamming anyone. In fact I feel scammed being fooled into watching you for what seemed like hours only for the big reveal to be a pointlessly pedantic observation about the size of the case. In fact you quite rightly, in my opinion, pointed out that 39mm seems to be the perfect size. So again, I fail to see where the scam is.
You feel scammed that you watched a free video which "felt like hours"? Get over it man, this is UA-cam! 😂😂 You think a company deliberately misrepresenting an objective fact is fine... I don't. You think it is "pointlessly pedantic"? Check the like/dislike ratio for this video... most people would agree with me. But whatever mate, you obviously think you know better than others.
I'm simply NOT getting a Rolex. Everything wrong with todays society is examplified by the levels of greed in the Rolex-scene. From the manufacturer, to the AD, to the grey market and to the flippers. Oh, and don't forget the hysterical UA-camrs! There used to be a sense of exclusivity of having something special. A feat of engineering. They now churn on millions of these watches and it's all about money....nothing special about that, but EVERYTHING that's wrong in our society.

Thanks for the perspective… my good mate Jeremy feels a similar way, he has a 36mm too
As a 40 wearer I also like the look of the thick acrylic crystals of yesterday.
The Explorer ranks right up there as a candidate for a one Rolex buy, or IMHO even a one watch collection.
Yeah, fair point… I think many would agree
I tried on this 40mm or technically 39mmm watch and it does seat larger than my 39mm watch (MK2). I have a 6.5 inch wrist I think it fits me perfectly - in that case the 39mm propably measures smaller too! I do prefer my 39mm especially the matt black dial over the gloss dial. Either way all explorers are the best - enjoy yours 😊
Thanks for sharing - yes, they are great watches.
But… seems like there’s no need to guess here, why don’t you go ahead and measure yours and let us know what the true case size is?
I have the 39mm 214270, and I love it. It was a bit less expensive compared to the 40?
Yep, prices keeps going up. The previous model 39mm was definitely cheaper than the current model 39mm 😆
Hello. Enjoyed your video. Curious, If you measure from 2 to 8 what is your measurement. Thanks.
Thanks for that.
The case sides are rounded and slippery, so it's tricky to hold a calliper steady in position there but best as I can make it out it's about 39.4mm.

Explorer is a very classic watch,
with black dial, three hands and large mark 369, always the same.
Easy wearing and good looking, not too difficult to get one.
Whether it's 36, 39 or 40, I like ROLEX Explorer. ( I have a Explorer 40, which is already the watch I wear most often when I go out.)
Very good! I agree!
Except that 36mm is too small :)
It still has the clasp adjustment. There are 3 position options.
Yes but it’s actually very difficult to get at that without undoing one of the bracelet links first. Not practical at all.
Thanks for taking the time to share those thoughts and insights - most appreciated!
The proper measure points for the Explorer 40 size is the span at the 2 and 8 O'Clock positions. There it measures 40mm.
No it doesn’t. Please don’t post fake news - see other comments where this has been debunked.
There are plenty of videos showing people measure exactly that and not get 36mm or 40mm on these Rolex models.
…same for the new Subs that are called 41mm but are more like 40.5mm
Have anti reflective coating on the crystal? See difference compared to older models without?
Yes
I own a 36mm OP. Other than the amazing movement and white gold indices, the overall quality of a San Martin is incredibly close
Yep, San Martin is pretty awesome! But almost everything they do is copied…
@@PerthWAtch They are producing more and more of their own designs now. Worth a look Ivan
Yeah that’s true… but their biggest sellers (as far as I can see) remain their homage work
I believe that saying it is a scam is a little harsh.
Thanks - agreed about this tending to “fly under the radar”.
What is the size of the previous 39?
@@PerthWAtch I guess it is a true 39. Not sure I can measure within 1 mm. I rather suspect that the new 40 is the exact same, If not, they very slightly thickened the bezel. It really is the perfect watch. And this comes from someone that has more expensive Rolexes & others.
Agreed - it very comes close to being perfect!
You can get good digital callipers for under $10 these days… worth it!
Sounds like a much loved piece indeed!
I’ve just received the call to collect one .. just need to decide if it’s going to fit my lifestyle . I wanted a sub initially but not sure it’s as versatile as I would need it to be, hence the explorer option.
Did you end up picking it up? It’s quite a conservative design but yes, certainly more versatile than the Sub for most circumstances.

Does seem like only certain markets at present. It could go the other way, ie. become scarce again everywhere
Love the review. Quite easy to enjoy video with the image of the perfect watch (IMHO) on the screen the whole time & not the presenter’s face steeling screen-time.
Thanks man - glad you enjoyed it!
Measured mine at 2 to 8 position its 39.5 so its quite true to size. Also, quite similar to my 39 mk2 but more legible and refined in my opinion.

😂
Thanks for the review. I could be very happy with this watch, lol. (I previously owned an Exp 39 Mk1 w/shorter hands, & non-lumed 3-6-9 indices.) Liked & subscribed.
Thanks for that - glad you enjoyed the review :)
Nothing says "I wanted a cool Rolex sportswatch, but I had to wait years for a Daytona. So I bought an Explorer 1". This watch screams "I've settled for something lesser than I wanted".
Is that truly how you feel about your Explorer??
What would it be saying if you got an Omega? 😂
Nice Ivan , wear in good health .
Thanks mate :)
is rolex a bit more available now to buy? i wonder..
Some people say this Explorer is one of the easier models to get.
36mm version is easier to get.
nice review nothing but praise for this watch but whats the scam that rolex has stated 40mm did you measure the case between 2 and 8 and have you contacted rolex and asked them how they got 40mm
Thanks. I have never ever seen a watch description mean 2 to 8 o'clock when indicating case size... and neither does Rolex mean this. Neither does this watch measure 40mm when you measure in that odd dimension. See various other comments for discussion on this.
Needs a crown guard! This is supposed to be the 'rugged' watch, then why not a crown guard? And why not a glide lock?
Yeah! What he said, ROLEX!!
Is the Easylink is the best thing since sliced bread, then the Glidelock would be heaven on earth :)
I can't really agree that it's a perfectly refined design. I've owned a few Explorer's, 36mm and 39mm, and there is always something off about the whole proportions of the things. I want it to be the perfect watch. I wish it were the perfect watch. But it just never quite looks right 😕
What would you change to make it more perfect?
@@PerthWAtch I actually think what it is, is the wideness of the polished flat bezel juxtaposed against the flat brushed bland looking lugs, when viewed from straight on. It's never been visually appealing to me. Whereas on my Datejust, the smaller, domed bezel looks beautiful against the sculptured polished lugs.
Fair enough - I get what you mean. Thanks for sharing your perspective 👍
@@1000lightyrs Luckily the entire bezel will look brushed after a few a few weeks of wear. These things lose their lustre quickly. Grand Seiko polishing, for example, is like a good haircut, it only lasts a few weeks.
Yikes, you’re freaking me out!
Ivan reviewing a Rolex????? honestly, very surprised.....Anyway, good day, Ivan!
without mercedes hour hand it will be op, which in my opinion look better.
Haha thanks for that - yeah many of us are sick and tired of one Mercedes hand after another… but it’s so quintessential here it didn’t even hit my radar!
Spin-ability! Love your work
Thanks mate - box spin rating is one of the most important factors in deciding the excellence of a watch ;)
Beautiful watch. I find the easylink comfort extension extremely useful.

Always thought these look odd. If the dial had 12-3-6-9 it would look more balanced. IMHO the plain oyster looks much better and you get a choice of dial colours. Infact I'd go as far as to say the explorer is a bit of a rip off.
Wait… aren’t they ALL a ripoff?
I measured here and got 38.5mm. 40 is the measurement from 2 to 8. I am loving the watch, it wears like a glove
You’re wrong - measure it again and do it properly. And don’t gimme some made up nonsense that that’s what Rolex meant.
I had the DateJust 41 that measured at just below 40 which I also don't understand
Probably same deal here… they didn’t want to make it sound similar/same as a previous model!
There's no white dial on the Explorer. It's the Explorer II that has a white dial as well as the black dial.

Re. the 'Explorer' text positioning.

Nobody else is interested in lug width (apart from re cheap aftermarket strap compatibility) as far as I can work out.
This is fake --> "People never say that lol."
Good to know that you're the original Lug Width Vigilante™ - I didn't realise who I was dealing with.
Regardless, 20mm lugs will suit this 38.9mm wide case perfectly well. That's the prevailing view that I'm getting, and which I also hold myself.
I'll give respect where it's due - but if a brand makes a stupid choice, I'll call it out if I see it. That includes lug width.

You can indeed
Take measurements of the watch case diagonally from 2 to 8 digits, you will get 40mm
Sounds like you didn’t do that yourself, because that’s not what you’d get. See other comments where this has been discussed.

If someone lends me one, I will compare and be sure to let everyone know… unlike those blogs online who perpetuate the lie!
What kind of click bait bs if this? Good luck with that.
You should watch the video before commenting.
Or look up terms before using them in a sentence.
@@PerthWAtch I did watch the video. Spoiler everyone: the explorer is a good watch! Shocker! Your channel is a scam. 😂
Looks like you don’t understand what “click bait” and “scam” mean… look it up dude 😂🤣🤣
@@PerthWAtch "Why the Rolex explorer Ii sucks!" 😂 Trash
Try using your words properly in sentences dude 😂🤣
Warning everyone: fake news spruiker here 😂🤣
Latin Maxim: "de minimis non curat lex" Your use of the word 'scam' is ridiculous.
English thanks. And you should watch the video before commenting 😉
@@PerthWAtch You are the scammer and oxygen thief. The review is pathetic by someone who had no technical knowledge. You need to go back to your fake watches to feel happy with yourself.
@@PerthWAtch Use your brain if you've got one.
Calm down boy - use your brain and your words to explain yourself ;)
PS. And stop "stealing my oxygen" :D
@@PerthWAtch Who got scammed?? No one just your BS.
Rolex burns my a$$ up with their LIES about case size. Too damn much money involved to get NOT what is expected. I ordered datejust 41 to find out it’s a 39.5. SOLD and bought an Explorer II
Thanks - I feel you bro!
40mm is just perfect 👌🏽
39mm even more perfect 😆
I still rather want The 40.. for me is perfect. 39mm is almost perfect hehe.
Haha fair enough!
So you will need to wait for them to release the new Explorer 42mm 😂🤣
Rolex box spin is 4.9 out of 5.
Haha I probably needed to oil it up more!
Rolex does that on almost all their models
Rounds up and some
I don’t think so. The previous “40mm” sub was actually 40.3mm, just for one example.
Regardless, they do indeed give incorrectly low measures many times - a scam!
@@PerthWAtch that is a good example of rounding down for once
Current sub is 40.5 called 41
Current Explorer 36 is 35.3
Previous Daytona was 38.5 called 40
They definitely have their own set of callipers 😂😂
Haha indeed that seems to be the case! 😂
Watch companies should say a “true 40”mm. Lol
Rolex should just tell the truth. Every other company does ;)
Scam!! Thems are fighting words! Honestly Perth watch man is that your whinge? Just because of the size, I've only recently subscribed to your channel thinking ok he's pretty cool... There's one thing I can't stand is clickbait! you bang on about how much you admire the watch, and then right at the end shout everyone stop It's a scam. The size is wrong. Please go down the disrespectful clickbait path, you're better than that
Thanks for the comment. Do you understand what “click bait” is? Coz this ain’t it.
I think I understand what clickbait is, but do feel free to explain it to me just in case I'm wrong. I have no problem if you have issues with Rolex lying about the size as your title suggests that fine, Just own it and tell the viewers about that issue. Towards the end you put the watch on and say it looks perfect. It's great
Seems like you can’t hold two ideas in your head.
Like I said, this ain’t click bait. You can try to explain why you think it is if you wish to understand. You will see that you can’t, and it ain’t.
Click bait, just another watch review or unboxing. Or just put all Rolex sizes are scammy?
Nope. You should watch the video before commenting.
Or look up terms before using it in a sentence.
I usually like your reviews but this one lost me completely. No more clickbait please.
Where did you get lost?
This ain’t clickbait. Why do you think it is?
Trolls anyone that disagrees with him when he posts clickbait.
“Trolls”?🤭
“Clickbait”?🤭
Everything about Rolex is a scam and they can get away with it. It is a completely overrated watch brand. At the beginning of the 1960s, you could buy a GMT Master for approx. $140 - what did you think, they laugh all the way to the bank when someone buys their watches
Well… a lot of it is scammy and marketing spin, but not *everything* is a lie…
Everything is a scam. Rolex just does it better.
Hahaha 😂
You could also buy a new car for not much more than 2k in the early 60s. I guess you don't have a car since they must be a scam too.
“What can I say that hasn’t already been said?”
Hence the idiotic headline I guess.
Idiotic comment - next time watch the video before you write ;)
I did watch it otherwise how could I have quoted? A scam is where someone deliberately misleads to gain money. My 41 sub is actually nearer 40.5 and the Daytona is more like 38mm I really don’t think anyone cares certainly not enough to go back to the AD and say they’ve been scammed.
It’s amazing you watched it and still managed to make an idiotic comment. And miss the point too! 😂
You think a company deliberately misrepresenting an objective fact is fine... I don't.
You think it is "pointlessly pedantic"? Check the like/dislike ratio for this video... most people would agree with me. But whatever mate, you obviously think you know better than others.
Clickbait title and throws a tanty at everyone that points it out 🤣
Why hello there, #1 fan Stevie!
“Clickbait” 🤭
PURE CLICKBAIT FROM A GUY THAT TROLLS ANYONE THAT DISAGREES WITH HIM
What?
It looks like you have a clock strapped your wrist, invest in the 36mm, the 40 looks ludicrous on your wrist.
39mm is perfect. Go buy one. You're welcome 🤣🤣
@@PerthWAtch Honestly it's comical on your wrist
You're comical 🤣
Honestly, *39mm* is PERFECT. Again, go buy one. You're welcome ;)
@@PerthWAtch That's just not English, sorry.

The clickbait specialist.
“Clickbait”? 🤭
scam? where? Clickbait.
You shouldn’t use words you don’t understand the meaning of 🤣
Clickbait title cheapens this watch review. Never going to watch another video from this UA-camr.
Fake news post from someone using words they don’t understand 😂🤣
All the wording on the dial look so squishy... damn shame
It’s a Rolex thing. Even worse on the Daytona.
Atrocious clickbait.
“Clickbait”? 🤭
Thanks for taking the time to share your perspective. I think the microcosm of Rolex does reflect greed and some other aspects that are more widely prevalent in many societies today… but definitely not everything. Just a fraction.
Why did you even watch this video?
Pretty ordinary.
Extraordinary 😉
Why the title is a scam.
Why this comment is a scam.
@@PerthWAtch Why it's clickbait
Use your words to explain. You can do it. Go!
😂🤣
@@PerthWAtch As retorts go you're probably better off taking your own advice. Look up the word cogent if English is your 2nd language and utilize the concept... and hey don't forget the 36mm peewee... bwahahahaaaa 🤣
@@PerthWAtch Ok, taking into account English may be your 2nd language, it looks like you have a clock strapped to your wrist, invest in the 36mm, the 40 looks ludicrous on you, you're welcome.
Unsubscribed - so bored of UA-camrs using overly dramatic clickbait titles to get views.
Meh. You should watch the video before commenting.
I don’t have to watch a video to know that any title with words like “scam” in this context is there purely for clicks.
UA-camrs need to treat their audience as a little less thick than a brain dead goldfish.
You are plain dead wrong. Some free advice: don’t judge a book by its cover.
But, whatever. You seem to know better than everyone else.
@@PerthWAtch well agree to disagree, but the days of putting titles designed to “shock”’and click-farm for views will be over soon. Just scroll through UA-cam. It’s tedious and people are getting wise to it.
You make good videos. You have a good subscriber base. ( I did watch the video). And it definitely isn’t the definition of a scam!
If company knowingly and deliberately advertises something that is objectively not what it is claimed, I consider that a scam, and I am clearly not alone here.
If you think that’s ok to do, that’s fine, you can have your opinion and I can have mine. Just coz you disagree, that doesn’t make this click bait.
Substandard content and unprofessional behavior.
Great content. Substandard comment.
Only scam is your clickbait thumbnail.
