    I think Thanos not attacking as the portals were opening was because he was caught in awe. He realizes that it's really far from easy as he initially thought. Sure, it's just an excuse so we can get an epic scene, but it still makes sense to me.

    I read somewhere that it was RDJ's idea that Tony only say a couple lines during his death. He was the guy with all the wits, so his death scene being near silent makes it more dramatic.

    I love how you were pretty fair and still critical of all this even though you absolutely admire it! I believe more people need to understand that being critical of something doesn't mean one is inclined only towards the direction of hate. That's why the nature and importance of constructive criticism should never be forgotten.

      @@y.reviews you have great points but in the end this is nitpick comparison for the sake of it because everything was better before right? It is like complaining why every sports events is not like or as great as the olympics. That feeling would be stronger when comparing Endgame to Kang dynasty or secret wars. I loved Infinity war and Endgame was a fun ride, but the only nitpick I have is that the Thanos they defeated wasn’t the same Thanos they lost to. His defeat wasn’t as personal as it should have been. He didn’t know any of those avenger characters.

    • @y.reviews
      @y.reviews  Рік тому +19

      This is very true. I guess for this specifically I turned my brain off and accepted it was probably a bit more fun watching a more dangerous 2014 Thanos fight everyone than the Infinity War version. But you're right, the ending where Tony makes the snap would've been more impactful if the Thanos looking at him knew him for more than just the 10-15 minutes of the battle.

    That mask on mask off thing has always bothered me even before phase 4. If you want a really good example just rewatch the final fight in endgame, at the point where thanos rains an artillery barrage on the battle field, spidey is almost blown off and cowers on the ground, where his helmet then goes away. Why in God's name would your helmet go away when you need it the most?? Oh I know, bc editors of marvel movies don't trust their audience to know what an actor is conveying unless we see their face, that's why.

    Great breakdown. I also still get slightly emotional, far out, if you ever need a inspiring pick me up just listen to 'portals' from the soundtrack, wow.
    It was also amazing to realize the full extent of the culmination of all the movies to this one point. Marvel was so great with the A and B plot lines in all the past movies and how it would build up the A plot to a point then cut to the B plot to continue that up (like when Thor lands in Wakanda in infinity war and they cut to the others on Titan, or actually all of infinity war for that matter.) but as Cap whispered "assemble" then Thor yelled I realized that there were no other storylines, it was just this moment. Everyone that was alive and able was in this and it was truly epic.

    I love this movie. The big 3 fight vs Thanos is my fave fight scene in all of MCU, edging out Strange vs Thanos.
    But as soon as Captain Marvel entered the battle, it turned into a cartoon. Everything became stakes free. That's what you get with an OP Mary Sue character.
    Also, let's not mistake CM with female empowerment. Every frame of her serves to promote HER, NOT feminism. She gets her own theme playing and be assisted by other female characters when they're absolutely useless to her??? Oh yeah, real empowering for the gals.
    If anything, she stole all the spotlight away from Nat, who ran so the other girls could walk, and Nebula, who has the strongest arc.

As a female myself, she was The Badass of Marvel that I looked up to :( I wanted to see Nat coming in to help Sam and Bucky when they got into some ridiculous situation, and just little nods and hints to her and Buck's previous history culminating in an awesome Black Widow film about her past coming back to haunt her... We were so robbed X((( but other than that and my boys' lack of screentime, Infinity War and Endgame are great movies! Cheers!

    Infinity War and Endgame were the end of a Golden Age for me.
    They're not perfect movies, by any stretch, but coming from a hardcore, old-school fan of Marvel comics, they were about as perfect a pair of capstone films as I could have wished for. The first Iron Man film blew me away - I had just started college and I was used to all the mediocre attempts that had been made to adapt Marvel properties for non-comic mediums. There were some good attempts (90's X-Men cartoon, anyone?), but I was so happy to see what I thought was going to be a one-off. Then production news from the MCU's other sets started leaking out, and I feared oversaturation. Thought for sure Thor would suck, and was positive I'd have to defend what I anticipated would be a cheesy, lame-ass adaptation of Captain America, my all time favorite hero. But nah, those movies were pretty solid too. The (relative) goodness of MCU Phases 1-3 had me convinced Infinity War and Endgame were going to suck. Like, how? How would Marvel Studios tie Thanos, all the Infinity Stones, all these disparate heroes from all corners of their cinematic universe (which had already splintered into its own "genres" if you think about stuff like the noir vibe of Winter Soldier or the neon grunge of GotG) into something neat, satisfying, and genuinely exciting? No way. I didn't think it was realistic for me to hope.
    Saw Infinity War and Endgame with my equally Marvel-loving brother after a decade-long stint in college at midnight showings on opening nights in theaters more packed than I had ever seen them. And it was probably one of the greatest feelings of my entire life.
    The Battle on Titan (especially between Strange and Thanos) in Infinity War? The Cap/Mjolnir moment in Endgame? I cheered politely in the theater, of course, but in my head I was losing my goddang mind.
    Great upload, dude. You really captured what made the Golden Age of the MCU so special. Look at the ruin we must endure now. :(

      I'll never forget the feeling of watching both in theaters too- the dread at the end of Infinity War and the satisfaction with how Endgame put everything to rest. Things are so scattered these days- stakes being diluted because of all the multiverse stuff, the real world drama.. it's going to take a lot for them to get back on track, but I'm still in their corner. I always just want to see good movies.

    My favorite endgame continuity error is in the scene where thanos is trying to push stormbreaker into Thor’s chest. Thanos’ armor is broken and he’s holding stormbreaker before he gets hit with mjolnir and is knocked over. When he stands up after getting hit his armor is completely fixed and he’s holding his double edged sword. All in like eight seconds.

    I'm glad other people enjoyed it, but for me this movie was the beginning of the downfall. The MCU peaked with Infinity War and so I went into Endgame with lots of enthusiasm, but it just bothered me more and more as the runtime dragged on. Why was it suddenly a time travel movie? In IW the characters were in a desperate struggle every second, but so much of Endgame is characters just waiting around, faffing about, going on personal errands... nobody's in a hurry, nothing is crucial, they're supposedly fighting to save 50% of the universe but they act like they're on vacation. Hulk's entire character arc happens off-screen, Peter Quill's return to his home planet is treated as incidental, Thor learns about responsibility for the 10th movie in a row...
    By the time we got to the big fight the film had lost my interest and I was just frustrated by it... and then it kept going for another 20 minutes to give me a bunch of wrap-up I didn't need. It definitely set the tone for phase 4's downward spiral.

  • @BeanZ013

    Endgame was perfect, but i think they should keep going. they have failed with alot of shows (she-hulk: trash hawkeye: mid and so on) But Loki, F and Ws, spiderman could carry. i would almost like to see fase four end like infinity war, but we just see something due to the multiverse (dead characters coming back) but i also feel like if they do it it could be a bad choice, i want to see what they do with Loki, and if wanda is still alive (which i definitly think she is)

  • @michaelpacheco9
    @michaelpacheco9 Рік тому +1

    I find the argument abour Phase 4 not really building up to anything strange, because people say that, then talk about how they wish these projects were more standalone. Phase 4 had a good mix of self contained stories and also stories that delved into the whole multiverse story. It was kinda like phase 1 and 2 tbh, with some of the best of the MCU, and also some crappy movies. My only real problem was how bloated the schedule felt, though with all these delays and shifts it seems marvel studios is getting that act together.

    • @y.reviews
      @y.reviews  Рік тому

      Yeah some entries into phase 4 dealt with multiverse stuff. I liked Loki and No Way Home. But I'm losing the plot of whatever the multiverse threat is exactly. I think that's what's missing for me. Supposedly it's Kang but almost none of the new characters being introduced know about him, let alone his variants, let alone the one who supposedly "died" in Quantumania. I think it could have all been more focused. The amount of content they dropped in theaters and Disney Plus diluted what made Marvel special in the first three phases. Just my thoughts.

  • @ThePrinceofHisOwnKingdom
    @ThePrinceofHisOwnKingdom Рік тому

    Maybe it's not fair to compare EG battle scene with anything Phase 4. Any army scene would look like roomba class against the battle for the universe in EG.
    I do think Phase 4 has its problems on the writing. Wanda's motive and Kamar Taj's stance was never fully explored. Wakanda Forever battle kept cutting to Riri who was having fun. And Shang Chi was best when it was a grounded kungfu fantasy movie. The huge battle at the end was never needed. Especially the dragon sequence.

    I like how the new movies are so utterly terrible in ALL aspects(plot, world-building, cgi, design, villains, actors etc), that we start look fondly to the "older" movies and think "that was not THAT bad at all..."

    7:07 Mask on Mask off wasn’t a bother because it wasn’t over done before hand. And actually we see how they’re helmets gradually got better with tech over the years as well. But now it’s just seen as lazy with characters like Lady Thor helmet disappearing makes no sense because they don’t use nano technology their gods.

    You're comparing a decade long payoff to an extension and rebuild. Granted, some critiques of Phase 4, like the helmet nitpick or the comedy everyone cites (Thor Love and Thunder) is fair, but I'd say the real issue with phase 4 has been the lack of consistent performance. Ryann Coogler and Chloe Zhao are the standard in phase 4 for me and have been the best efforts of what I'm talking about--people taking it seriously and doing a phenomenal job. A lot of the actors in the MCU need to up their effort as well. Like, Angela Bassett and many of the actors in Wakanda Forever give outstanding performances. Same with some of the Disney+ material (Oscar Issac, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Elizabeth Olsen). However, I don't see the consistency I saw in phases 1-3 where the majority of those involved and those coming to direct take it as seriously. I know there are many good performances in the MCU in phase 4, but most just feel less impressive.

      I think there's been bad, good, and great things about phases 1-3 and then 4 on its own. But so far with 4, I just haven't gotten any sense that the different movies and shows are building up to anything. I'm looking for another payoff down the line but I feel like by now, we should be more set up for it. If the multiverse or Kang was supposed to be it, I feel nothing for it yet.

      @J0Nramirez Рік тому

      @@y.reviews I see. That's actually the same sentiment my brother and I have. The build up had been way too subtle. Probably a consequence of having new characters that aren't directly tied to the Kang storyline. Not everyone was tied to Thanos in phases 1-3 (Ant-Man), but phase 4 has way more characters that don't seem to tie in at all so, I don't like that. Definitely need more connections.

    There were some great bits here, plenty I never noticed. This guy's expertise is super useful in breaking down how well or how poorly certain elements work. And for the most part he's pretty balanced in his critique, which I can appreciate.
    I think he's a bit kind to the girlboss moment, though. As much as this guy doesn't want to get into politics, those politics exist, and having the movie signal those politics so thoroughly brings me out of the entire experience. It's like TLJ in that regard -- this movie is nowhere near that bad, but it's a moment that feels like a campaign message and not a part of the movie, and to an extent that would be true for me whether or not it was well-executed.
    The moment in the video where he points out that the helmet issues in phase 4 and beyond all started here is more true than he knows, because nearly everything that caused massive issues in phase 4 started in this movie.
    No consequences for character actions? This movie brought half the universe back from the dead.
    Rampant political messaging? Girlboss shot.
    Ruining established characters for funny? Fat Thor and to an extent Professor Hulk.
    Instant-win buttons destroyed so they can't be used again (Love and Thunder's wish and MoM's book)? Endgame establishes that a new time heist could be done whenever the characters want and they just... don't.
    Swapping out old characters with new, often more diverse, replacements? Falcon gets the shield and it turns out he didn't even want it.
    The malaise of the multiverse shattering the stakes? Gamorrah's non-snap death is undone through time travel, and the ending is made hollow by the fact that unlike in IW, Thanos has no idea who most of these people even are.
    Fanservice over plot (Shang-Chi, MoM)? The time heist is a blatant victory lap justified with a contrivance.
    Heck, Endgame popularized the idea of ignoring important elements other films established (the celestial, Westview) by creating the blip, a mechanic so poorly-conceived that any attempt to use it creates problems (far from home, falcon) and any attempt to ignore it (everything else) essentially retcons it.
    I very much appreciate the CGI breakdowns here -- it's this channel's niche and there's some amazing potential for growth. However, I think that for a lot of people the effects are icing on the cake that is a good story, and if that story has significant holes in it (as Endgame undoubtedly does), then it can be very difficult to ignore that even if the moment-to-moment stuff is great.

      Well said. I liked reading through your thoughtful response. The girlboss concept is something I'll be going into in future videos as it really is more and more apparent these days. It's a tricky field to maneuver since people like to pile on very harsh criticisms whenever they get a chance to. Wish everyone was as level headed as you. But agreed about many of your points in Endgame's story. I'll be interested to see how they deal with Gamora in GOTG3. Would've preferred deaths in Endgame to stay final, but I guess we can't have everything.

  • @BeanZ013
    @BeanZ013 11 місяців тому +1

    I notice a lot of plot holes and differences and such in marvel too.
    *Plot holes:* with 2014 thanos. so, 2014 Thanos comes to 2023 (endgame time 2022 ish) but, if Thanos left from 2014, infinity war would have never happened, so endgame wouldnt have happened, and Thanos wouldnt have left (making a time loop)
    *fase 4 not working/being pushed:* Love and thunder was forced, design was bad, ending was bad, pushed alot of stuff (with korg, axle//astrid, and alot of stuff that wasnt needed at all, didnt add to the story and was just forced)
    M of M was amazing with wandas arc, but americas character made no sense at all. from her flahsback, we see the two mothers (once again, its pushed and didnt add anything to the story) And that she isnt in a reality like earth, yet she is named america? but i would guess the US doesnt exist in that reality(it could, so its not real evidence ig). two her powers are just silly. the portals being star shaped was just overdone. her overpowering wanda, makes no sense at all either. Wanda is way to powerful to be punched by a kid who barely even knew her powers. The scene w the illuminati, i found some things off (changing races and genders when it was uneeded AGAIN, i understand how the multiverse varies, but it wasnt needed)
    She hulk was a mess, pushed scenes, just not good in general (the whole twerking scene? Why? its so not needed, and adds NOTHING at all)
    Loki: This was acually a good show, there wasnt any pushed things, but there were a few errors, one being when Loki is at the store during the hurricane, he is pushed around by Sylvie in the guys head (he is way to strong to be pushed around like that)
    F and Ws: This was good, the arguing and messing around between Bucky and falcon felt real, but the show could have been better
    Quantumania: ... this was a mess. modok? horrible arc, horrible design. so many other things that sucked, didnt feel like a marvel movie, felt like one of those shitty disney superpowered teenager movies
    Eternals: Im not even going to say anything
    Spiderman: Very good, but a bit overrated, had some problems, cgi and stuff but was still good
    Wakanda forever: Very good, but the kid making an ironman suit in a few hours (after the base one) seriously? it downgrades iron man.
    guardians 3/moonnigtht/ms marvel: I havent seen (i heard gaurdians was good)
    Changing characters: (before i start, i want to make it clear i am supportive of lgbtq, different races, and such, bisexual myself) The whole change a characters race/gender/name and so on, is just ruining things. axle/astrid had no point, didnt add to the story, the characters arc, or anything, and was just there for the agenda of it. same with the korg, americas parents (throughout the moving she wears a pride pin, which is fine, but why? its just thrown in there for no reason) them pushing things into places where they arent needed, dont help, or add to characters, is not representation. its forced. if you dont have a gay character in a movie, than you dont support, if you dont have a character who is "different" you get canceled. if you want to represent, build it *into* a character, make it a known thing, instead of just throwing shit around, without it doing, adding, or creating anything for the plot just to cover you ass and be able to say "we added a gay character, we support, look at us"

      That wasn’t a plot hole. It created a branch timeline called TRN734. Watch Loki series. Also, Cap had them pruned by putting the stones back in their receptive branches. And he was in TRN736, spending his life and then left the timeline, going back to 199999 in 2023. Changing the past doesn’t change the future. The sacred timeline is a thing.

    Addressing the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) post-"Endgame", there are several potential strategies and solutions for Marvel Studios:
    Evolution of the Story Arc: "Endgame" concluded the arcs of several key characters, but it also paved the way for new narratives. The MCU is a universe teeming with diverse characters and unexplored stories.
    Introduction of New Characters and Teams: The forthcoming introduction of the Fantastic Four and X-Men into the MCU opens up numerous opportunities. These characters, with their rich histories and compelling narratives, can be integrated into the MCU, offering fresh themes and dynamics.
    Maintaining Quality: Marvel Studios has a strong track record of maintaining high-quality standards across its films. While matching the impact of "Endgame" is challenging, the studio's commitment to character development, storytelling, and visual effects should ensure the quality of future films.
    Leveraging Streaming Services: With Disney+, Marvel can delve deeper into character development and explore themes that might not fit into the traditional movie format. Series like "WandaVision", "The Falcon and the Winter Soldier", and "Loki" have already demonstrated the potential of this medium.
    Building Anticipation: Marvel's strategy of introducing new characters and narratives keeps audiences engaged. The anticipation for the Fantastic Four and X-Men is already high, and Marvel can capitalize on this by strategically teasing their arrival over several films or series.
    Avoiding Franchise Fatigue: To keep the franchise fresh and engaging, Marvel needs to continue innovating. This could involve exploring different genres within their films and series, focusing on diverse and underrepresented characters, and taking creative risks.
    In conclusion, there are many reasons to be optimistic about the MCU's future. The introduction of the Fantastic Four, X-Men, and the expansion into streaming services all present exciting opportunities for the franchise. The MCU's evolution is a testament to its dynamism and capacity for reinvention, and it will be fascinating to see how it continues to develop.
