I've been working on this one on and off for 2-3 months.... and then i did 75% of it in like 3 days. Idk what happened, i just did shrug
This song just works SO WELL for Oz! I took a little bit of creative liberties, but only the tiniest bit, that's how perfect this match is.
And in the time it took me to get that moment of hauling, Epic's first 2 sagas got remastered tracks... Which yall should check, since i couldn't use the new version here. And almost the same day RWBY found a new home. 2 at once, i guess that kinda was the push to finish this, lol

nothing ive seen in rwby has ever made me feel the weight of ozma's lifetimes as much as this animatic, the burden he must feel having to fight someone who he still loves and the despair at everything he's lost and will probably lose again. you can feel him when he says forgive me just seeing everyone he feels he failed, I think a lot of them would if they saw what he had lived like because they would know he was doing his best with limited information fighting a monster but he doesn't feel he deserves the forgiveness himself, he sees himself as just as bad as salem despite everything he's done
HOLY FUCK, that transition from the tear to the bullet on "when does a man become a monster" is complete geinius. Cause that moment is when ironwood lost the last semblence of humanity the had left
@ravenousanimation9288 Hehe, it's a double whammy, it's both Ozma seing himself as a monster for accidentally killing his daughters in the crossfire and IW becoming a monster by shooting Oscar. With next line "when does a ripple (IW shooting him) become a tidal wave" (Atlas falling bc of his actions and being flooded by said tidal wave)
Oz at this point is pretty much a mass of scar tissue shambling around in approximately human form, and this captures it perfectly.
That is the saddest yet accurate way to describe his situation

I am devoted to rwby and epic so to see this brought me to tears
this fits perfectly with Oz and his pains... it's also kind of somber when you think by "home" he's referring to the afterlife
You did a better job in portraying Ozpin than in the canon, hell, you even made me fell pity for him. You are goated, my man!
Personally I don't think they succeeded at making him a bad or morally gray. All his actions were reasonable and at worst too passive. Like turning Qrow and raven to birds? They can do it at will and it's a helpful skill which I highly doubt was forced on them. Keeping secrets? Yes that hurts, but he's lived for 1000s of years what could they possibly say that he hasn't heard and seen opposite. Hazels sister? She was an adult most likely like all except 1 (ruby) beacon students are. She knew the dangers. And I understand his anger but it stops dead at him siding with the one who creates monsters than the one who helps teach people to defend against them.
I do pity Oz because he is hated for something the writing doesn't portray properly. He had his whole life told for him. He had to witness the loss of the world, his wife, his kids, and his hope all over again.
The only thing you can try to convince me was not that great was not telling them Salem can't be killed. But I can still understand his reasoning. He didn't want them to lose hope. That was his fear and it was confirmed right after Jinns tale was done.
Don't get me wrong. I'm not just an Oz stan who thinks he's perfect and can't handle if he did do wrong. I love this animation because it portrays him in a way the writers wanted to or could have. It's interesting to note a man who unwillingly because a god is still rooting for humanity. He's seen all the filthy but yet he hasn't done anything morally gray?

100% agreed, I’m still baffled to this day that none of the characters related to what Ozpin was going through at all or at the very least pitied him.

Summer Rose, Pyrrha, Amber/Autumn, Penny, his four children but I can't remember if they have names. Hazel. Outside of that I dunno if anyone else has a name or it's been too long since I saw Ozpin's flashback.
Group 1 - not sure who the old lady is, but I see Hazel, a young girl who is either Gretchen or it's one of the 2 civilian women that encountered Salem's minions during Volumes 4/5, the 3 dead member of Team BRNZ who fell during The Fall of Beacon, Lionheart.
Group 2 - Summer Rose and the Children of Salem (fitting putting a mother with children), Amber, Pyrrha, Penny.
It's awesome, thank you for bringing these two together, the song and oz bring so much of his immortal life and the pain he endured and caused.

@@longingsoul1 wasn't much reason to show a minor team getting killed on screen.
the most we got was one of them being carried off by a nevermore in the background while Blake and Weiss are running through the chaos of the fairgrounds.
we didn't get confermation of their fate until the second CFVY book, Before The Dawn, when the lone survior Nolan (the guy who tried to use a cattle prod on Nora) is with at a meeting of the "Beacon Brigade" (which is basically a meeting of students who survived that night and have ended up in Vacuo).

😍😭 I’m SPEECHLESS??? Holy shit!? This is amazing! It’s beautiful! ITS STUNNING! I always thought that the Epic songs were a perfect fit for Rwby but I never thought this one would fit Oz and the rest of the incarnations so well! Because it’s what I’ve always said when it came to Ozpin, he is just a man. A man who’s made a lot of mistakes but is still a good person underneath those mistakes. I also love that you showed Oz watching over Oscar and that Oz really doesn’t want to subject him to the pain he’s gone through, that makes my dadpin heart very happy 🥰
I didn’t even think it was possible but you made me love Ozpin even more than I already did and I loved him a lot before! 😭
