Scylla (EPIC: The Musical) - ANIMATIC [Blood and Flash Warning]
Вставка
- Опубліковано 12 лип 2024
- I have not made a lot of animatics in my time but BY FAR WAS THIS THE MOST TIRING + MOST FUN TO MAKE. Learning how to animate the serpents was an interesting experience, but it was a fruitful one indeed. Thank you all for almost 2K subscribers omg 😭🫶. Last bit was a tad bit rushed but I hope you enjoy nonetheless 🩵.

I love how many people have Eurlochus somehow lose his torch in favour of another person then realise she’s aiming for the torches BEFORE that person dies. It adds a lot to the scene
That’s how it was done in the animatic on the official stream that Jorge did
@@doveamor Yeah but people don’t always do everything like the live stream. I don’t think the “Odysseus having a chained foot” thing was in the stream, it’s a fan insertion as a reference to the source material
Chained foot? Like on the different beast thing or the Munity (or something completely different?)
@@Carmillia-Vesperawhen talking to the siren in Suffering
@@Anonyomus_commenter no ik that! I was talking abt the torch passing.
2:17 This is such a clever way of explaining how Eurylochus survived this encounter. Because assuming the animatic from the trailer for scyllas song being canon because Jorge commissioned it, Eurylochus should have died being the one lighting the torches. It makes so much sense him dropping the torch to try to help another soldier about to be killed.
It also apesar on the livestream
@@pedrorosa9893 The Livestream had animatics? I missed it because I was still asleep.
@@necroshade3771 yes it was repost for a while before being taken dowm
didnt he give the torch to someone else?😭
@@ace_____XE Yes, he did so to have his hands free to help.
This animatic is fantastic! I really like the moment when Eurylochus realizes that scylla aimed for the men with the torches
I didn't catch it at first. That's such a cool detail!
@@miki10_also there’s are 6 repetitions of “deep down” for each head of scylla
I think of Scylla having low light vision. Causing her to not see in the dark. And so, she thought the torches were the only people on the ship.
Nice @@Cottageforgotten
I had the best realization:
Scylla, aims for the men with the torches…
“Deep down, you know that we’re the same.”
Then:
“Keep your head down! He’s aiming for the torches!”
Both Scylla and Odysseus are the same in a sense.
damn. Nice catch
Damn- yeah...
Wait, when's the "keep your head down he's aiming for the torches"?
@@midnight9487 From a clip of a later song that's not released yet ('King' i think??) where Odysseus has returned home and is hunting the suitors
@@lost2439
Ah, R.I.P the suitors..😬
But thank you!
1:52 THAT SCENE WHEN ODY LOOKS AWAY FROM THE -SACRIFICES- _MEN_ AS HE'S NOW THE MONSTER AS SEEN THROUGH THE RED EYES IS SO GOOD!
Meat shields!
It's also at 1:21 ! This is sick!
The fact that Krieo matched that switch to the audio is sick!
YES!!! when he looks at the men the expression is IMMACULATE, it's a hint of worry/sympathy but then he turns away from the light of the torches his eyes go back to red and merciless!!!! it's so cool!!!
@@DevikaBTS-qu4op EXACTLY! It shows that he still has that part of him that the 'man' but that the monster is gaining more control
Ooh, I love how in this one, Eurylochus knows after he's confessed that he fucked up, and it just makes him await the blow, so he immediately interprets the torches as a punishment for HIM. And Odysseus was surprised about the bag too, which made it seem like he actually did improvise the torches at that moment.
I bet you're right. In the mythology Scyllas whole deal is 'Scylla will destroy your ship unless you give her 6 sacrifices as you pass through her territory'. The option is always there, Ody might have been trying to concoct some plan to get everyone through safely. But then the confession happens, the feeling of absolute betrayal overtakes Ody and he decides, in that moment, that some of his crew don't deserve to go home. 558 men have died, whats another 6?
@@seasnaill2589 That makes sense…though, his “But Scylla has a cost” sounds like he knows people will die no matter what…
@@Zephirite. Literally this. literally didn't matter if nearly no one died up until that point. some people HAD to die to get through Scylla's territory. there was no plan.
NOT ODYSSEUS LOOKING AT ALL THE MEN WHO WOULD DIE LIKE SCYLLA WAS PICKING THEM OUT _COME ON._ This is brilliant.
I haven’t seen a single Scylla animatic that wasn’t extremely bloody. I like how everyone unanimously decided that this song needed blood.
Of course it needed blood. 6 people died on screen from giant monsters.
In the livestream the setting of mutiny is described as “covered in blood and gore” so makes sense
6 people gets brutally eaten by monsters just because they were holding torches
What did you expect? Rainbow crap?
In other news, ocean monster found in ocean.
@@trulyagooseTbf that would make global news
That hint of red indicating Ody knows full well what Scylla is asking- nicee
I love how both scylla and odysseus have red eyes to show that they are the same. Great animatic!
The part where Scylla says, "We only care for ourselves," always gives me chills because we must remember that this is after the Cyclops and Circe, who Eurlochus had no problem leaving men to! But now Odysseus knows that his FIRST MATE, THE MAN WHO HAS BEEN THERE SINCE THE BEGINNING, couldn't resist temptation and opened the bag after seeing Odysseus stay up for 9 DAYS to prevent anyone from opening it, leading them to meet Poseidon, who then killed MORE of their men. I wholeheartedly believe that Scylla's line is meant for Odysseus but also for Eurlochus and the rest of the crew.
Circe yes, but it’s not like Eurylochus could’ve stopped Polyphemus from killing the men in the cave 😭 he only stated they should leave AFTER those men had died.
I love how Scylla is whispering in everyones ears and darting around. Also oughhh Eurylochus' face when he realizes that everyone who died held a torch and how he tries to save the one guy left. And YO HIS FACE AT THE VERY END?!? He's pissed because Odysseus let this happen, made it happen. I love this
Showing the red glint in his eye when he tells him to light up six torches. 😭
AAAAAAAA.. I loved all of this, but what really got me is the moment Eurylochus confessed to opening the wind bag. Odysseus probably thought it was something minor like that, and so he still had the shine in his eyes.
But the *moment* Eury finished, Ody's eyes went dull, and that's *haunting*. And then the red glint in his eyes when Ody orders Eury to light those torches?
I love it. Love it so much.
Considering that if Eury hadnt done that the entire army of 600 men would have savely arrived in ithaca without ever encountering Poseidon (who was hundrets of miles away at that point) that is quite an admittance of betrayal. This coupled with odys crumbling sanity explains his actions here and in thunderbringer to just give up on his crew who despite his every attempt of saving them have dissapointed him and blatantly ignored his orders for selfish reasons time and time again.
Odysseus' reaction here 0:43 is exactly how I've imagined it. The initial betrayal and then with an eerie calmness going to the front of the ship is such a good move. Truly, I love your depiction of it! Not to mention Eurylochus' reaction at the end with the realization and rage that he has towards Ody in that moment is so damn fuckin great.
I love how you make it look like Scylla is narrating/puppeteering both Eurylochus' and the crew's guilt as well as Odysseus' inner realization of betrayal to her advantage before revealing herself. I also like how in this animation Odysseus's "Eurylochus, light up six torches." Is more of an order that must be carried on instead of Eurylochus assuming that Odysseus has forgiven him. The red eyes and oppressive aura you gave Odysseus also shows that he intends to get away with murdering five members of his crew and Eurylochus instead of him looking shocked or guilty. The way Scylla says her lines while Odysseus looks up at her knowing exactly what he's doing while Eurylochus stares in disbelief, that last clip with Eurylochus looking angry at Odysseus for just sacrificing their comrades without any guilt or hesitation. Chefs kiss. Love this take on Odysseus 👏👏👏👏
screaming crying wailing banging on the walls, i am obsessed. i love how you animated the moment Eurylochus connects the dots at 2:27, realizing that the men Scylla attacks are the ones with torches and that this has been Odysseus' plan all along. i need to lie down, thank you for making this.
2:10 It looks as they are looking at eachother, and also like they communicate without words, like odysseus tells her that she can have six men without fight, but in exchange she let's them swim thru her Lair, IT IS SO COOL
That's how she is. If you give her six sacrifices she lets everyone else survive
I love this! The Scylla design is so pretty! And the way the torches reflected in Odysseus' eye, the orange glow giving it a soft look, to the switch to the red pupil (iris technically?), a hard look, like he mentally prepared himself for what was about to come, first mourning them then closing himself off, bc he'll do what it takes to survive
1:20 and 1:54 Ody's eyes turning red just like Scylla's at the start it's just so amazing i LOVE IT
I _love_ this design of Scylla!
I think this is also the first animatic I’ve seen that has Scylla’s lair be in a cave to explain the darkness, rather than it just being nighttime when they get there. I like it!
2:43 Danm that sea monster looking like a snack right now
I’m sure she would say the same about you

Oh to be eaten alive by her eel mouth thingies
the part where scylla shows herself i think is one of the best ones i've seen. like, the heads are just circling them, getting a good look at their snacks. girlie is literally playing with her food
I love this! I always imagined Odyssus hearing Scylla and I'm so happy to see it alive!
I am obsessed with the way you draw eyes specifically, they are so expressive, you can really tell a lot about how the character is feeling and what they are thinking only by their eyes.
The moment when Eurylochus confessed opening the bag and the shock in Odysseus's eyes, the red in Odysseus's eyes when he orders for the torches and when he orders for them to just escape knowing well six of his men won't leave that cave alive, the way he closed his eyes when his men were being killed and how he purposely kept his back turned to them and instead focused on Scylla, looking at each other as equals, the fear and helplessness in Eurylochus's eyes as he was desperately trying to save his friends and the hard realization when he understood only those holding the torches were dying and finally that last shot where he is furious at Odysseus's decision to sacrifice them, just...EYES.
I absolutely love the way you show Eurylochus realizing that those holding torches are being targeted. The still-lit torches gripped in the hands of the dead is horrifying and so, SO good. Also your Scylla design is hot. i mean what who said that
THAT WAS GREAT!
Scylla telepathically speaking to Ody was an amazing touch as well
GOOD JOB!
I've been trying to decide which Scylla animatic I'd feature in my ETM animatics playlist, and I'm going with this one because it's downright fantastic.
Me too! There's something to love about each of them, but for now, this one has to be my favorite
And why not all of them ?
I love the shot at 1:53 with the lights of those he’s decided to sacrifice in his eyes, like he’s got one last chance to reconsider, but he just looks away and lets those lights be snuffed out.
0:47 I've always wanted to see this! Scylla whispering in Odysseus's ear is such a cool and creepy moment.
2:04 OK STOP THIS THE BEST ONE I'VE SEEN
1:18 the moment the man officially became the monster. Different beast was a preview… this is the official release of the monster.
I love that you can tell right when Odysseus was going to let Eurylocus die, you can see in his eyes the moment there was the confession of the windbag in Odysseus's eyes his fate was sealed as a sacrifice to Scylla
Guys, I think we found THE animatic for this song. It was pure cinema. From the emotions to the small details that are crucial for this song to work makes it a tier of its own. Amazing work
If you listen closely during the part after Odysseus says “Row for your lives”. You can hear the screams of the six men being eaten by scyllas heads, eg at 2:00
This is so good! And i love the detail of Scylla being there disrupting the peace without physically being there! I always imagined those first notes being her causing discord that way with the crew!
I’m so glad to finally find an animatic that portrays Odysseus wrath about the bag and that he tried to send Eurylicles to his death with the torch. I also love how Scylla herself is whispering Odysseus and his crew thoughts/feelings as they are approaching her lair, that’s how I pictured it in my head while listening to it. Really nice work :3
Your interpretation of Scylla reminds me a lot of Undyne. Just needs an eyepatch lol
YAY SOMEONE GOT THE INSPO 🫶🫶
That spectral Scylla whispering to Eurylichos and Odysseus is exactly how I always imagine that scene, you hit the nail on the head with that!
0:57 "There is no price we won't pay" with the hair going across the neck in an almost throat-cutting like line :o
Not sure if it was intentional but it's cool!
The scene before that was intentional, swirling around the crewmates in foreshadow. If you didn't notice, the two crewmates she swirled around ended up dying 😁😁.
@@kriiieeeooo I did! But I just thought that this was such a cool thing cuz the line then your visual of it
0:07 Holy shit, his eyes were red from the start.
Wonderful animatic, love the adorably menacing Hydra heads, all the subtle details, and seeing Eurylochus putting the pieces together before the end, absolutely fantastic!
I'm such a fan of how dynamic it feels.
You really conveyed the tragedy and especially I love the little detail of Eury realising that Scylla is after the people who had the torches
And realising that he dropped his and now someone else will die.
The Ody also having the red eyes and cold expression as everything happens, the heads of Scylla running around, it's absolutely amazing
I fully didn’t hear the men who were sacrificed dying in the music till you timed the bites with them. Suddenly I heard this ghostly scream at each bite and oh my gosh that’s such a cool detail.
I love you made Scylla's spirit taunt Odysseus and his crew before she approaches, The animatics for this song at rapid pace and I'm here for all of them.
So amazing! It's brutal how the torches are reflected in Odysseus's eyes right before he looks away and yells 'Row for your lives'.
I love that you portrayed Scylla manipulating them with song, like a more subtle and calculated version of what the Sirens do. It's exactly what I imagined happening when I heard the song the first time!
That hits hard, he told them the bag was all that kept them safe from the storm, struggled to stay awake and it cost them the majority of their forces for that when they met Poseidon, but later saying that it was the captains wits that cost lives....blaming him while knowing its your own fault for their deaths.... That betrayal while the whole way suffering to try and keep them safe then to have that devotion spat on.
Scylla’s SOOOO PRETTY!!!!!!!! I think it’s that ponytail!!
I LOVE THIS SO MUCH HOLY SHIT THE TRANSITION TO THE GLOWING EYES WITHIN THE DARK?? YOU CONVEYED THE HORROR AND ITS SO FUCKING GOOODDD?? HOLY SHIT AND THE WAY YOU DIDNT HESITATIE WITH THE VIOLINCE TO
This is absolutely so damn great like THE ART STYLE AHHHHH IT KEEPS ON GIVING AND GIVING I LOVE ITTTTTT
My favorite thing is that you have Odysseus just standing there, knowing full well he doesn't need to run. That's a detail I imagined as well and I adore it!
Love how you synced up the background screaming with the men getting picked off, I think this is the first animatic I’ve seen do that
Loved how you did the start with Scylla whispering to them, also the perfect sync between the animation of the heads eating the men and them shouting!
i think that my absolute favorite thing about this song is that as the men are being eaten, if you listen closely, you can hear there cries as theyre picked off one by one. its really sinister, but i think it adds another layer to the music, almost assuring us of what we know is happening as we hear it. (with an animatic were also seeing it, but i still like the depth it gives the song.)
1:04 is that really Odysseus's height😭😭😭😭
No, he's actually relatively above average. The average male height in ancient Greece was 5'7, him canonically being 5'10. People just love depicting him as really short, and I am absolutely HERE for it.
TO BE FAIR, that was a stupid time to tell him about the bag. "Hey, my brother from another mother, i know we're about to pass through a dangerous creature's domain and you will MOST DEFINITELY be pissed from what I'm about to say, but im the reason you aren't home right now. Are we cool tho?"
MY BROTHER IN CHRIST, THIS IS NOT THE TIME OR PLACE.
That being said, this is definitely one of my favorite animatics for this song. I just love "phantom" Scylla singing to Odysseus. It just make sense to me she would have similar abilities as a siren
The animators are coming back and I'M HERE FOR IT ALL
GORGEOUS. love the way you did the wind bag reveal, and the use of eurylochus realizing was suuch a good touch. incredible animatic i love this
AHHH THIS ANIMATIC IS AMAZING! The little details of some scenes are amazing and the look of realization and terror whenever he sees the crew holding the torches as they’re getting eaten is amazing and Odysseus’ eyes glowing eye like Scylla and can still see it when he is being told something is approaching and 0:50 the foreshadowing of who’s going to die is amazing
Omg someone noticed that those two were gonna die 😭🙏
0:29 Yas! Someone who ilustrated that Scylla's words are for everyone in the crew
Having Secrets and deep down being all selfish. Is just that Oddyseus is the one who have fully accepted and admited that side to him. He still tried to save the rest of the crew, if they did't go though Scylla's liar Posaidon would have catch up or still preventing them from aadvancing. It had to be done, still wrong he didn't tell the crew and indirectly making Eurylichus pick 6 men. But for Oddyseus that was he had to do.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE SM IN THE BEGGING WHEN THERES PARTS WITH HER VOICE AND THESE LIKE "GHOST" OF HER APPEARS LIKE TO GET IN THEIR HEADS OMGGGG I LOV THIS SMM
I love the red in his eyes at 1:19 really nice touch to show he truly is becoming the monster he said he would in the underworld saga
THIS IS SO BEAUTIFULLLLL😭❤❤❤ (also I just LOVE the fact that in this animatic the men die at the same moments as they do in the song(I mean, a lot of ppl miss that detail, and I get why, the screams of the men are pretty quiet) )
I love the white outline wisps of scylla around Odysseus right off the bat--its like a theory (?) I saw about Scylla having telepathy
I found this something like 20 minutes ago and I've already watched it somewhere between 7-9 times, this might be my favourite Scylla animatic I've seen yet other than the two officially made livestream clips and even then it's close. So basically you have definitely earned yourself a new subscriber and a like.
Why does Epic have the power to squeeze as many masterpieces as humanly possible out of dozens of channels with under 10k subscribers?
Inspiration is a hell of a drug
I'm too far gone. I need to step away before I shackle myself to the animation table. I already have designs for mostly everyone sketched out. Help me. Stop me.
This epic musical is honestly something special. If someone is smart they'd bank roll this whole idea into Broadway or a movie. The Odyssey is timeless and needs to be revitalized every few centuries or so...
So I haven’t watched many animatics of this song but OMG is yours one of the best I’ve seen!
The hauntingly beautiful voice of Scylla (lack of better term) ghostly image influencing Eurylcus and Odysseus action is an absolute amazing touch especially using red eyes to show the monster in Odysseus was another great touch. I could echo back same praises as other but other then few I mentioned that were or likely will be repeated from this comment. Hope you take it with stride and know you deserve every bit of praise you get from this (in my humble opinion) masterpiece that you’ve made.
Also to anyone reading this hope ya have an amazing day/evening.
God I love your Scylla depiction! Probably my favourite one so far! And the wisps of her influence at the beginning? Argh so cool! I also love the idea that Ody is completely caught of f guard by E's confession, like he hadn't even thought about it! It's said in the comments before this one too, but E having a torch, forsaking it to try and save another crewmates, and realising whats happening... I 100% believe Ody asked him to light the torches, intending for him to end up with one in Ody's shock and betrayal.
All in all, great animatic, my ONLY gripe is Scyllas heads moved a little slow, but I can't animate for sh** so who am I to pick?
Most certainly.
This is so well done. And making it that Scylla directed the line concerning shame directly at Eurylochus was awesome.
I love how Odysseus’ expressions throughout the whole animatic, and the little silhouettes of Scylla at the beginning!! Even the red eye connections between Odysseus and Scylla! Wonderful job!
Your interpretation of Scylla is hauntingly beautiful.
Aaaa I think this one might be my favorite Scylla animatic so far!
One of the trickiest parts seems to be the "I opened the wind bag while you were asleep" - no response from Odysseus -- long silence -- "Eurylochus. Light up six torches" -- and illustrating it in a way that emotionally, interpersonally, relationally makes sense. How you did it felt *so real* to me, not overdramatized or overexpressive but also really intense! (There's an adage that emotion-held-back, emotion-not-quite-expressed, is actually way higher intensity for the audience/viewer/reader than expressed emotion, because the viewer feels it *for* the character as the character gives signals of feeling an emotion but holding it in and restraining themselves, and that's like a building pressure so that the eventual release of expression feels *so much more* powerful.)
Using the projection of Scylla twining around Odysseus as he was processing what Eurylochus just said was *so good.* and then stalking past Eurylochus to the front of the ship, and Eurylochus just having the dread/wince/withdraw response, that was *tangible.* The feeling of "well crap now they're really pissed and it's unresolved tension simmering and stretching" while you just feel awful and know you can't do anything to fix it. oof.
also. also. Odysseus contemplating, listening to Scylla's voice, her outine eyes flash red, and then his eyes flash red to indicate that coldness/"become the monster" mindset?? brilliant
I think this has to be my favourite anumatic for this song. Your art stile is incredible and beautiful and your the only one I've really seen showing off the fact that the people with the touches are targeted by eurlochus dropping his touch and another solger picking it up them dying straight afterwards. ❤
The red eyes when he does something horrible I love it!
Your art is so amazing!
Update: I think I love this animatic over the others just because of how callous Ody is in it. He really has no care over the lives he is sacrificing. He signed their death warrants with ease because he holds no more empathy for them. He knew he was going to pay that price, already steeled himself against it, and now he feels nothing at the bloodshed he caused.
And you can tell that he intended Eury to die. It was just luck that he didn't.
Remember Scylla doesn't eat other monsters..." we are the same you and i"
I've been hyped for this since your "No Longer You" animatic and it was worth the wait! Only thing I wish is we got to see more of Scylla's design/give her more screentime!
i love the way that you synched up each man's death to their screams in the background :D
This is BY FAR the best animatic for this song. Youve knocked it out of the park!
I love how you made Scylla practically a voice in their heads, almost as if it controls them
this was absolutely FANTASTIC thank you for making such a wonderful animation!!! your skill truly is amazing🙌🙌 (also odysseus’ face when he heard eurylochus admit what he’s done…….that hurt so badly BUT IT’S WHAT I’VE BEEN ENVISIONING WHENEVER I HEAR THE SONG SO THANK YOU FOR DOING THAT AHHHHHH)
SO GOOD OMG the animation's quality! the evil eyes... literally awesome.
ONE OF THE BEST ANIMATIONS *EVER* !
I started following you bc your "no longer you" animatic was my favorite out of any other and damn you did not disappoint, this was amazing!!!!
OMGG THIS IS AMAZINF WHATT I LOVE UR ART STYLE AND EVERYTHING AND UR A YOUNG ARTIST TOO I LOVE IT OKG
Oh this is THE scylla animation! The ending too?? MMMM 👌
Talented work. Eurlochus was mad at the end.
What I love most about this interpretation of this particular part of the story...in the original Odyssey, Scylla was also paired with another monster called Charybdis, a large creature that creates massive whirlpools that would drag down entire ships. Odysseus was told specifically by Circe that he should sail closer to Scylla and lose six of his men, because the other option would have been to lose the entire ship (and himself)...essentially the lesser of two evils.
By leaving out Charybdis, as well as Circe's advice, Odysseus's decision to sacrifice 6 of his men intentionally comes across much more tragic in my opinion, because it feels more like a spur of the moment decision based on his knowledge of the monster...and without Charybdis, it puts his decision to question because who knows what other methods he could have thought up...but he was so destroyed and desperate at this point that he would rather kill his own men than risk delay.
Damn homeboy wasn’t lying when he saw the SACRIFICE of man.
This is fantastic great job. The visuals are haunting and sketchy just like a storybook.
Your animatic is what made me go back to the livestream (I screen recorded it for myself lol) and realize that Odysseus was not only planning to originally sacrifice Eury after his confession, but that Eury had given up/lost his torch to a different crew member, but by the time he realized they were going for the torch bearers he was too late to save the man who took his torch - the man who took HIS FATE.
It’s no WONDER Eury was so mad at Ody in the next song - so many people were calling Eury a hypocrite, saying he was going to leave men behind at Circe’s island as long as it meant they could get back home safely and the siren said this was the safest way.
I mean, he’s still kind of a hypocrite because now that it’s HIS life on the line he doesn’t like his own mentality, but still. He almost DIED and then had to watch one of his friends die in his place. YIKES.
But then again, in Ody’s defense… like people say this is all his fault. But honestly? It’s kinda Eury’s tbh. He started doubting Ody after Polyphemus but apparently that was the FIRST TIME Ody lost men???? After a TEN YEAR WAR???? Polyphemus was a CYCLOPS but STILL Ody managed to get them out. AND he would have managed to get them home safely if Eury wouldn’t have opened the bag. Because Aeolus didn’t lie and neither did Ody.
Like we had the “Luck Runs Out” song and that honestly should have been our cue that Eury was not as solid a support as we all thought he was. He was doubting Ody from the start. When he really had no reason to. A TEN YEAR WAR with NO MEN LOST. That’s a HELL of an accomplishment. To only lose men to a CYCLOPS but then still manage to get MANY of the men OUT, as well as get the sheep as food that they were after? Ody was a good captain and king.
If Eury hadn’t opened the bag, they would have been in Ithaca by now. And Ody, being the smart man that he is, 100% knows that. Eury’s doubt in him caused all this pain and suffering, lead them straight to Poseidon (because no storm returning = no Poseidon reaching them), lead 558 men to die.
We joke that Ody doxxing himself lead to Poseidon knowing him, but that wouldn’t have MATTERED if Eury had TRUSTED HIM - as his general, as his captain, as his king, as his friend, as his brother.
But he didn’t, and this is the price they are BOTH ultimately paying.
Sorry for the long rant - anyway LOVE YOUR VIDEO! 😅💜
Honestly, I love this and this one so far has been the animatic that I have seen to be the truest to the actual psychology at the center of this. I've seen so many people just kind of slide over the confession of Eurylocus opening the windbag. Like... The moment I heard that and to be fair, I strongly suspected that was coming so I wasn't even really surprised by it. But the moment I heard it on the live stream and my theory was confirmed. I just did this supercut of all of the times that Odysseus was essentially taking the blame for Eurylocus' doubts and issues and how much horror he has seen and how he has signed away his humanity out of guilt over what happened to those men and it wasn't even his doing.
People totally just ignore the betrayal there usually. And I think that even though Odysseus is more monstrous by this point in the story and is trying actively to pull away from what makes him human, it shows very much that he obviously still cares for his men and EVEN Eurylocus throughout Mutiny and Thunderbringer as he actively tries to help them avoid their inevitable Fates and pleads with them despite them being mutineers who stabbed him. The fact that he has this internal monologue where he debates suicide and ultimately can't give up his life and ever seeing Penelope again for their lives which are already forsaken, something that he no doubt knew. He still cares about these men and he still viewed Eurylocus as a brother. In Mutiny, he even refers to him as a brother as he tells him that he knows he would have done the same (which he DID try), To me it's so obvious that although he knew even though some of his men would die, he had no intention of picking or choosing whom until he suddenly had a reason to.
This animatic was so chilling and haunting, every frame like a gut punch in my heart, every expression perfectly portrayed. Def one of my favs!!
I do like the ones where Ody is more stoic though, only because of everything he went through, Eury confessing to opening the bag is like...the cherry on top of all the bs he's had to deal with up to this moment and I personally believe Ody is smart enough to suspect Eury was the one anyways. He's not angry, just disappointed. He's empty. He just wants to go home.
Besides, I feel like people unintentionally do a disservice to Ody's character by ignoring the time he doxxed himself to the cyclops in a moment of grief just to place all of the blame on Eury (which is like 85% his fault I would agree with). Remember, they wouldn't even need the bag if Ody had just killed the cyclops in the first place, or not reveal his name and address. But we understand why he did what he did, we call him a dumbass but we empathize.
Since this is Ody's story we don't get alot of insight into other characters heads. But my anger at Eury was soothed when I imagined how much shame and guilt he probably went through, the desperation to put the blame somewhere else (and who better than the captain and king?). But it still weighed heavy and he tried to confess in Puppeteer, Ody shut it down and his courage disappeared to try again.
I dunno I just feel alot of emotions about these two and how human they are 😓
I think this is my favorite Scylla animatic.
I like how you can tell through the animatic what Ody plans before he tells Eury to light up six torches!
Love the Scylla design. One of the best animatics I’ve seen for this song.
I love how absolutely pretty and raw the entire sequence is! :D
OH MY GAAAAAAAHHHH YOUR SCYLLA LOOKS SO PRETTYYYYYYYY
OOOOHHHH I LOVE YOUR SCYLLA DESIGN ❤❤❤
¡Esta animacion es simplemente hermosa! Grite eufóricamente al ver la reacción de Euriloco al final ¿¡Y los ojos rojos de Odiseo!? Un detalle brutal, además, el diseño de tu Scylla es muy bonito. Totalmente EPIC👏💖✨
WHATTT?? THIS IS LITERALLY AMAZINGGGGG!! WHEN I CREAT MY THUNDERSAGA PLAYLIST WITH ANIMATIONS SO I CAN SHOW MY FRIENDS AND STUFF, THIS IS PROBABLY WHAT IM GONNA USE FOR SCYLLA! :DDD
(Like how your No Longer You one is also on my Underwold saga playlist)
Of the animatics I've seen of this song, this might be the most visibly betrayed and coldest portrayal of Odysseus yet! The pacing in general was quite good, as well!
