Lumpia's are one of my farorite asian foods. The lumpia's I remember from chilhood are very big filled with tauge/bean-sprouts and other ingredients, really a complete meal on its own. Also, I remember eating it with a red spicy sauce called "sambal". The little ones that you have made look and sound even more tasty. Great of you ladies that you have veganized them.
My moms full blood Filipino grew up there and everything I related so much to Janelle in this video. My mom never NEVER let me roll them until I was literally like 22 and then she constantly was like "TOO FAT. TOO SKINNY" and many ended up in the rejection pile or she would re roll them lmao 😅
Just 2 beautiful besties/ ladies making yummy vegan food together ! 🥰 I truly enjoy y’all’s personalities! Yes, I’m in Tx , Southeast Tx , Tex-Mex-Cajun - Hurricane area. We say “y’all.”
I remember the first time my Lola taught me how to make lumpia and she was VERY particular about the rolling part. If you didn't roll it tight enough, she would unfurl it and make you do it again!😬
Exactally what I was wondering if was s possible. Great job. I'd substitute the onion with green onion and add diced water chestnuts and season heavily with the vegan fish sauce. And dry out the mock meat by frying it in cast iron for more caramelization and bind it with egg replacer. 👍
We cut the vegetables by hand so that it does not get to mushy after its cooked and it doesn't loose form after biting. Though you really have to finely cut evedything.
You two are the best! great vid and funny too. Lisa, do you ever hear anything from Dee and Rawch from the Kale Sandwich Show? I miss them and think you may have been at a VegFest type event in one of their vids ages ago?
what if you cooked some of the veggies first to get rid of some of the moisture? squeezed out the water? if that is the issue. either way these look daaaamn good. so do you guys!
Haha yeah that's what my original plan was (to cook out the moisture), but Janelle's mom said you don't cook it that way. The recipe I posted removes the moisture from the flax egg and to add the flax meal directly, so that will yield the better lumpia :D
The Lumpia Wrapper got eggs, usually used eggs so that the flour will stick each other like a dough to make the wrapper. Lumpia wrapper that has no eggs is only the white rice wrapper.
OMG! LOVE YOU MORE FOR THIS VIDEO! Imma white woman who works with a bunch of Ates! Miss my lumpia fix! Thank you bunches! :) Also, you're both silly & fun! :)
I strain it and put it in a jar for the next time I'm frying something haha. If it's not really good anymore, Eddie just puts it in the garbage or pours it down the sink. Since it's just oil, there's no worry about it solidifying like with animal grease.
Any suggestions on what to sub the ground crumbles with? If I wanted to avoid the processed faux meat? Has anyone out there made lumpia with veggie only filling?
Love the haircut and how much you two laugh together!
Love the energy when you two cook together!
I see why you guys are friends, you guys vibe well together....love the series!
The two of you are friendship goals
Hahah thank you. We've been through a lot together
You guys have the most iconic friendship ever lmao. Y'all always make me laugh so much and brighten my day
Omg! I havnt had lumpia since going vegan in 2017. Never even thought of it since it's so meat based. This is one I definitely need to try!

Yeah! Those are the other kind of traditional lumpia, whereas this one is the lumpia shanghai :D

This video was something else. Loved the editing so much, and the realness

I love this! To add to this series, it'd be super fun if u invited friends of other ethnicities and veganized their childhood cultural foods!
I think this would be super cool! Not a lot of my friends are down for being in front of the camera though haha
I absolutely love Janelle, I wish I had a Janelle in my life!

My vegan indonesian friend sent me this link and WHOA I live in Hamilton too! You guys are an absolute riot! More Janelle!
flax does have a bitter edge thing
Oh! I didn't even think of that.

Nice, nice, nice! Love it! But hey, where's that podcast with The Viet Vegan and The Filipino Flex? :D
Hahahah we're still working out some kinks schedule/life-wise. Maybe one day? But for now definitely more videos!
@@Thevietvegan Hooray! Your besties vibes are amazing!
More Janelle please!
And also more childhood favorites!
Pls name ingredients as you add to mixture. Looks good.
More videos with her!!!!

I have no idea what they're up to these days :( I miss them a lot!
@@Thevietvegan darn it! I appreciate the reply. Hope they resurface one day.
The flax seed is probably giving that bitter taste. I find it bitter added as a egg replacement.
Ya'll are the best duo on here and I AM SO GLAD YA'LL MADE LUMPIA YESSSSSS
omgggggggggg loving the short hairrrrrrrrr

What kind of wrapper did you use to wrap?
Love you guys friendship ❤️👍
Question! What is the proper thing to do with left over oil from frying??
I strain it and put it in a jar for the next time I'm frying something haha. If it's not really good anymore, Eddie just puts it in the garbage or pours it down the sink. Since it's just oil, there's no worry about it solidifying like with animal grease.
Where did you find the vegan fish sauce? I can't seem to find it and really want to make these for my in-laws next weekend! Please help :)
You might have a chance finding them in an Asian grocery store close to a Buddhist temple. I found mine in Kitchener Ben thanh
YuM!! I want to try these :D
Any suggestions on what to sub the ground crumbles with? If I wanted to avoid the processed faux meat? Has anyone out there made lumpia with veggie only filling?
You could probably use green or brown lentils? Veggies only would work too but it might be a lil wet
@@Thevietvegan that's what I was worried about too...not that i would mind experimenting with veg-lumpia lol
Thanks for the suggestion! ;-D
Can they be air fried?
Totally! I think they might need a tiny bit of oil to get super crispy, but you definitely can air fry them
You’re as crazy as me😖 i think i love that sister😂👏🏽
What was used to substitute ground pork
Lightlife ground
What brand of wrapper do you recommend?
Honestly whatever vegan one you can find :) the brand i usually use is like clear with a pink border?
Yummy!
Ground round? I use vegan beef crumbles.
Yep! The brand I use is Yves and they call it ground round
What's the meat substitute called again !?
I used Yves ground round :)
Lumpia! Lumpia! Very tasty but the "rolling" is tedious...helps to have a good friend. The recipe is Boss!
I believe Filipinos eat Lumpia as well.
Haha yes this is a Filipino recipe, Vietnamese spring rolls are slightly different and are called Cha Gio :)
Can you add the recipe please
Its linked in the description
The Viet Vegan Thank you
I clicked on this so fast i almost broke my finger
