hi Chis that's a big change from the a10, i have a 1978 suzuki gs 1000 with 4 into one and that gets plenty of crap on the pipes and i use mr muscle oven foam and works great just spray it on and leave it for 30 mins and repeat till your happy, anyway take care Chis kind regards Adrian.

Thanks again for some more advice there. A spray on solution would be much more preferable to scrubbing away, so will definitely look into that when the pipe inevitably becomes tarnished again!

It's always a wiggle to get that collector in I use a wooden stick and kind of spring and pop the rear pipe in .
Did you lube your dog bone whilst having the collector out of the way .Maybe could I suggest your next job if not done yet the fuel filter and proper E10 submersible fuel house replacement inside the tank .

HI mate. So the dogbone was stripped and serviced by the previous owner about 200 miles ago just before I purchased it (came with pictures), but is something I need to learn how to do for its annual service.
As for the E10 hose, I bought the upgraded fuel lines and replacement filter from AP Workshops, but haven't fitted them to date. Kind of regret that as draining and removing the tank is a real ball ache; but something to look forward to in preparation for next year.
I only run her on E5, and over winter the tank will be drained and left vented so that should protect her somewhat 🙂.
      Thanks for the comment.

@@CharltonsClassics draining the tank is the best thing you can do what I do is with a hand pump take the fuel out whilst running until the bike stalls and then like you said leave it with cap ajar to circulate.oh and I change the oil at that point so it sits with fresh oil over winter .

@@captbarb6642 Personally I disconnect the fuel hose at the adapter on the side of the bike, connect a male push fitting on a loose piece of pipe and let that drain into the jerry can. I then lift the tank to let it all flow out. As you suggest though; may be worth me getting a hand pump to get rid of any dregs at the bottom...

Cool mate are you gonna do a full review of the Mille ? Would like to hear your thoughts on it compared to other bikes you’ve ridden cheers

There are a few videos in the pipeline with some more upgrades and rides out where I talk through them and give opinions.
For me the mille is a great bike. It's big enough to find it comfortable, albeit i do get a bit of wristache now and again, but probably not used to it as much as pervious. The power is lovely despite it being in the 600cc territory by modern standards, but you can really open her up without doing daft speeds. The brakes are surprisingly good now that I have got used to the feel of them and they are really simple to work on as you will see when doing my winter upgrades.
Most importantly for me are the way she looks and the way she sounds. I kind of bought her as more of an ornament as opposed to being a workhorse and every time I see it, it puts a smile on my face. Then you press the starter button and that V-Twin sound (especially with her new exhaust end can) makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.
Would fully recommend one to anyone interested, and they can be found at a reasonable price now, with tonnes of support on the forums if required.
      Hope this helps 🙂

@@CharltonsClassics thanks for the reply mate, yeah I’m defo thinking of one, the looks are a bit dated but they are growing on me plus I’m 6”3 and a bigger sports bike would fit me better. I’d be looking to ride her a lot so I’d service her meticulously and I agree the twin sounds lovely when opened up. I heard there’s more problems with the gen 2 electronics than the gen 1 aswell so makes me want one even more. Looking forward to seeing what you do with her 👍 thank you

Was it a tight fit ? I know it’s held on with springs

    • @CharltonsClassics

It wasn’t too bad actually, but you will need to loosen the three bolts holding on the rear manifold pipe. Access to these requires the removal of the tank from memory. Probably a good time to link in with other upgrades if she’s all stripped down 👍🏼
From memory I had to break it free by removing the springs and giving it a good pull downwards, but then it just drops straight out …
