Enjoying your videos. I have a 55 Golden Flash and love it. One thing I would comment on is it is not a great idea to start it on the side stand. That is a good way to either bend the stand or worse, fracture the lug on the frame.

Had got a bad deal in 1st place buying a brand new Tuono with this same dealer, bike fell over in my garage, luckily only scratching the outer palel (that covers side intake vents) ordered new panel Sept 24, its now Jan25, i got the panel but 50% of the stickers are missing, very unhappy. When i 1st bought bike i asked for help using setup buttons, was told by owner/part owner "sorry but its beyond me" Had Akrapovic fitted, engraved into it 'not for road use' what more can i say
Yeah it’s crazy how a main dealer can just be so unphased by things, with no attention to detail and basically taking good money for poor service. I recently had a test ride on a Triumph Tiger and the Triumph dealer was a polar opposite. Very attentive, helpful, and basically said you can ride most of what we have until you find what you like, the bikes will sell themselves. Amazing really. And I’ve always found that one strange. Ducati do it with their Akras too. They sell you a bike that’s not roadworthy. 🤔 Although look on the bright side mate…you now have a Tuono 😃
Haha, it saved me going 2 wheelie school 😂😂😂
I bought a rally pro 1200, 6,4” and the bike fits great, heated seat wasa nice upgrade, engine sound above 5k rpm is pretty cool. Enjoy.
Everyone is on the adventure bike wagon since Ewan went on a ride 🤷🏻♂️ yet I see very few adventure bikes under trees when out walking the dog but lots out n about on a Sunday visiting the local cafe … Triumph have made the latest 800 tiger sport at a realistic price , clip on luggage without the need for rails but most of all it’s a comfortable ‘road bike’ with a nod to being sporty and no pretensions of ever going off road . I wonder if triumph will follow this and turn the 1200 into a similar kind of thing … would take the sales away from BMW S1000XR range with luggage , shaft drive … food for thought as not everyone wants an adventure bike , we aren’t all ‘Charlie’s’ going the long way round to Sainsbury’s
@@stevedavies-pp7dp Yeah they are definitely widely adopted, and when I get mine I have some long distance tours planned and it’s such a great bike for it. Agree with you regarding the shaft drive too. I like the idea of being able to do a 4 week trip without having to think about cleaning and re-lubing the chain 👍🏼
How many miles have you got on yours?
She’s done about 2,900 miles now. Looking forward to bumping those numbers up this year 😃
@CharltonsClassics Put about 12 on mine until now. Great bike.
@ Ahh nice. Is that when the valves are due? Heard that’s an expensive service, although I wouldn’t be using a main dealer personally…
@@CharltonsClassics That's true. Had mine done at about 9k. All within spec. A bit pricey (1100GBP).

Hi Chris, which abba stand is it that you have the Millie on? Just bought a Millie and I liked the sound of what that stand can do. I’m Manx so keep up the IOM trips and I am enjoying your channel
@@markmiller817 Cheers mate, always enjoy my time on the island 😃. Yeah the abba stand is great and there are loads of extras you can buy for it. This one is the ‘superbike stand’ and from memory I think the fitting kit (chassis adaptors) for the Gen 1 is #32, but I’d recommend a call to Demon Tweeks or abba themselves to confirm. Enjoy the Aprilia👌🏼
Thanks very much appreciated
Take the whole carb off dissemble on bench ..look for slide and bore wear..that will cause the ole splutter stutter through gears and acceleration. Floppy rattle air leaks..people forget how much mechanical thrashing and bashing those slides and bores get ..once the wear starts it gets worse quickly...a fine feeler guage fore and aft then to sides between carb bore and slide will expose ovality..fore and aft..usually its the carb bore..its only dyecast poo. I used to polish the crap out of bore and slide and reroute and saturate cable ..carbies are a black art
Thanks again for your words of wisdom there. Pretty clueless when it comes to carbs as you will have seen, so all feedback and knowledge is greatly received! Haven't checked the bore yet to be fair so will definitely do that at some point, make a record, and monitor 👍
I always only do ONE thing at a time between rides..that way you can isolate ONE effect at a time..I wouldve waited longer before dicking with cables and idle jets.
Yeah that's a fair comment. Patience isn't my strongest suit 😂. Glad to have sorted her in the end, but definitely agree with what you say. Too many variables!

Hi Mate, appreciate the comment. The Mille is such a great bike, and they are really good value at the moment (think I overpaid for mine, but no regrets). Yeah I love trips to the IOM although I'm not completely sure of the dates just yet. Will be a case of timing it for good weather, but avoiding the TT races I think. Happy New Year as well, and good luck with the RSV 🙂

@@CharltonsClassics thank you pal 👍🏻
Great video, great review. Could you please explain to me what boppeting(?) means? ua-cam.com/video/zmF4EX1kwbs/v-deo.html Im stuck between buying this or the Africa twin adventure (Manual+quick shift) this upcoming spring. Thoughts?
Cheers mate. Ahh I said 'buffeting'. Coming from sportsbikes I expected that the screen would remove the wind blast and it does a reasonable job, but it does sound a bit blustery. Others have agreed and I imagine that a larger more shapely screen might help with that. As for the Africa Twin; it looks like a serious bit of kit, and probably well suited to extreme off road. For me I would still choose the Triumph (GT Pro version). Great power, handles surprisingly well and think it would be a better mile-muncher for long distance trips. Looks like two test rides are in order 🙂.
chris , can you tell me what brand mirrors those are ? i want a set of those too . happy newyear and keep the shiney part up !
Hi mate. I bought these from eBay. They work really well and have a nice tint to them. As with everything I seem to touch it was a bit more difficult than expected. The push fit of the inch long insert you screw against was really tight so instead of bashing it into the handlebar and risk not being able to get them out, I filed a bit off the outsides so it slid in freely. Still able to screw them tight and no issues when using them. Just a tip in case you have the same issue. These were the ones: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/202896803108?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=mTzlIC_hT0y&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=MuHVYXBURJ-&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
@@CharltonsClassics tnx man ! im ordering these too . enjoy the bike and happy 2025 mate !
ive been thinking of getting a A10 myself so these video's are brilliant
Ahh thank you. They are great bikes in my biased opinion 😂. Been a learning curve for me owning this one, especially coming from modern bikes, but always rewarding to ride and I enjoy the tinkering too. Good luck with the new bike search 😊
Recently bought myself a tuono v4. Best bike ever!! I’m still learning how to not ride it like a spanner though 😅 Loving the red gloves, what are they? New sub btw.
Yeah it’s such an incredible bike! Good choice 😉. And the exhaust has made all the difference! The red gloves might not be to everyone’s taste but I love them. From Goldtop. Great quality, loads of colour options and surprisingly cheap too👌🏼
So you've changed the rear sprocket from a 42 to a 44 tooth?
@@stumo114 Yeah, went to 44 on the rear and it’s made such a difference. Much more flexibility with gears and more rideable around town👌🏼
@@CharltonsClassicsThanks, I've just got a '22 and only had a quick ride on it, thought it was a bit lumpy around town.
@@stumo114 Yeah mine felt like it was getting bogged down at slower speeds and I wasn’t used to cruising in 2nd at 30mph (compared to 5th gear on the Fireblade). Just make sure to spin the wheel and look for any lifts in the chain. Turns out mine was off centre / oval, so had it replaced. Didn’t realise at first and kept adjusting the chain tension. Seems annoyingly common with Renthal from what I’ve heard, although they do look great…
My Factory will be due its first service soon, and salesman said don’t miss it. He said it runs a special thinner oil just for running in, hence why rev restrictions too. Good job you didn’t run it to 2k miles with it. 😮
Yeah talk about being fobbed off. I couldn’t believe it - from a main dealer as well! No intention of using a main dealer again now that the warranty period is up. I prefer to use my local workshop who I’ve built trust in over the years. He’s about half the price too!
hi chris yes condensation you can drill a small hole at the top of the filler cap on the 2 screw hatch about 1mm drill bit should do the trick and will stop that, also you can put some castro thickl gearbox oil, or redline heavy gear oil that will slow the leak down some what, the leak is coming from the worm drive in the gearbox which is driven from the layshaft the worm drive has an o,ring on it and not that big of a job. hope that helps in some way kind regards, Adrian.
@@a65builder67 thanks for the advice there Adrian. Interesting idea but willing to give it a go. Just ordered another filler cap that I’m happy to drill a small hole in. Will be interesting to see if this works, and I’ll have to remember to cover it with something when washing the bike 😊
@@CharltonsClassics hi Chris thanks for your reply it should'nt be a problem with a quick wash, regarding the small hole all pre/unit triumph have ti in there and and norton bikes are also the same in fact most if not all pre/unit have the holes in, and all bsa a65s are the same all gearboxs have to breath, also try to put an o/ring on the speedo drive thread and then screw the cable back on it should work any please take care kind regards Adrian.
@@a65builder67 Hi Adrian. Another good suggestion. Just been doing a bit of research on it and the O-Ring seems to be the way to go. Will be good to refresh the oil in any case and look into the O-Ring and ‘breather’ hole. Anything for a bit more UA-cam content 😂
The BSA manuals/service sheets at the time said to use engine oil in both the gearbox and the primary, but I reckon most people use EP80 or EP90 in their gearboxes nowadays. Unfortunately gear oil is prone to emulsifying with any condensation in the gearbox shell (often found inside the outer gearbox cover) This seems worse if the bike is only used for short runs.. The only fix is to remove the outer cover, wipe out any creamy coloured 'snot' you find gathered inside and replace the oil with fresh.. If you don't take off the outer cover and clean out the 'snot' you're wasting your time really.. Personally I just keep changing the gear oil regularly during the riding season and then do a proper clean out if I'm laying the bike up for the winter. To be fair, no matter what you do, it will only happen again !
Thanks for the advice there. Was a bit surprised to see it if I'm being honest. Think I'll revert to regular oil changes now. I'm not sure whether it's as bad for the engine oil as well, but I'll change that in spring from now on, after the winter lay-up.
I use 'Morris' oils for my BSA. They are for classic British bikes. SAE 50 for the gearbox (no sign of condensation.) SAE 40 for the engine and SAE 20 for the primary chain case.
@@splodge57 Morris lubricants are good quality classic oils and your grades are pretty standard too so you can't go wrong really ! - Unfortunately the only way your gearbox oil will become 'milky' (as it has) is when water from 'somewhere' get's into the gearbox casing and is mashed into the oil by the gears (emulsification) The water could be getting in via washing the bike, Henry Cole's favourite jet-washing, through a leaking gasket/seal or in the form of condensation, it doesn't matter HOW it's getting in, but it's DEFINITELY getting in there somehow, because if it wasn't, the emulsification just couldn't occur..
True but I do think it is better to use the Morris SAE50 engine oil in the gearbox than the EP90. Cheers.
It's leaking from the gearbox and down the inner cable. They really all do that. Per forum I tried some heat shrink outside of cable, worked for a while but now I occasionally take cable off from gearbox to remove excess oil and be careful not to over tighten. I believe there's a washer inside gearboox that fails to seal. Most people seem to accept the small leak and give it a wipe, it looks worse than it is but keep an eye on the level.
Ps. gearbox oil looks fine to me but if you're concerned just drain it out and put fresh in not over filling. New oil may slow the leak for a while.😊
Yeah I have read that people just put up with it. I think it's more annoying than anything else. Having constant drips on the driveway etc. Might have a look at the heat shrink idea you did too 🤔
@@splodge57 Well thanks for the reassurance there. First time I've seen it like that to be honest. I think regular oil changes are the way to go. Can't be a bad thing after all...
looks like water
@@dennytuma thanks for the feedback. Seems as though condensation is the issue based on the comments. Some interesting suggestions too 🤔
Might be condensation in the gearbox oil
I hadn't thought of that, but a few comments point to it. Difficult one to stop by the sounds of it 🤔
Beatiful car...........an absolute icon. Loved the story about it being kept in the family so long.😎
Thanks buddy. Pleasure to own her and hoping it will be in the family at least another 30 years 😊
Hi Chris This was my Dad's bike back in the 70's He owned it from 1975 - 1978 until He met my mum :-)
@@Don-hm6rj Oh wow. That actually bike (388 EBM)? Ha, my Grandad had exactly the same thing. Was enjoying the world of British twins until my dad came along and it was time to get something with a roof 😂
“Each of the three bikes, insurance is £596”. Then goes on to say £200 each.🤔
Come on, you know what I mean 😂. £596 for the three…
@@CharltonsClassicsIt’s interesting - seems very low, that’s all. Just got Tuono and it was £550 on its own. And I’m on old git. Is yours a multi bike policy ?
@ yeah it’s multi bike for the 3 sports bikes. Like I said I do have a high excess but if rather take a low premium. I use Bennett’s so all of the modifications that I have are covered as standard which also helps keep the premiums down 😊. Enjoy the Tuono, great choice👌🏼
The stock exhaust sounds great. When changing the exhaust, it’s going to possibly affect warranty, tuning, insurance, track day tests, and legality. Seems a lot of trouble and potential trouble.
@@wl660 Yeah I was conscious of those things too. I chose to change it at the end of the warranty period and that exhaust is stamped road legal so should be covered with insurance no problem (covered as standard with Bennetts). Also the Gabro maps are well reviewed so I was confident in using it. Completely transformed the bike for me and puts a smile on my face every time I press the starter button 😃
@ I agree with you about staying the right side of the law. Must admit, I like the idea of the valve being more active in the lower revs - which I think Gabro might be able to take care even with Stock. I will also wait until out of warranty. Enjoying your content.👏🏻
@@wl660 Thanks mate 😊. You can check the full list of options on his website. I seem to recall a map for a standard setup which keeps the valve open all the time (or maybe when first gear is engaged 🤔). But I also queried this with Aprilia and if they ever read the ECU they can see in the history that the software was updated, even if you revert to the standard mapping through the Gabro App, so best to wait until the warranty is over as you say. @@CharltonsClassics Top man, thanks - I’ll take a look (Gabro website was confusing first time I looked).
😂❤❤
I the exhaust mivv have or not a kat?
You can purchase a CAT separately for this exhaust (Mivv Part Number: A.015.LR1TB)
@CharltonsClassics I wanted to ask you if there is kat in yours because it sounds very good
@@butta_biker7206 Thank you. No I didn’t fit the cat. Really happy with the sound and I prefer the titanium finish to the carbon Akra personally 😊
@@CharltonsClassics last question without having purchased the kat do you still have the euro 5 approval sheet?
@@butta_biker7206 It’s been a while since I bought it but I think everything was documented and e5 certified. The exhaust is definitely stamped with this 👍🏼
I have 4 bikes, including a BSA Super Rocket, on one classic bike insurance policy. The only thing stopping me buy another is I have no more room.😢
Ahh very nice. Well if your BSA is anything like mine that will be an annual cost of about £40 in oil puddles alone 😂 . I’m also in a similar situation with regard to lack of space now. Might be a more extreme solution, but there’s always inside the house. Something I’m seriously considering for mine 🤔
Got Me think what all mine cost I got 4 bikes one car in which I use all over them but I can't bring my self to sell any off my bikes but I have got a lot off room to had a few more😅 I'f my wife let's me 😂
Yeah I think overall it’s a relatively cheap ordeal. And yes I know exactly what you mean, it’s hard to part with them when you’ve cherished them for so long. Haha, good luck with that 😂 😂
Cool collection, both two- and four-wheeled. Question: is there a maximum-mileage requirement for "classic" designation in terms of insurance? (That seems to be the case here in the States.)
Thank you 😊. So over here you declare the maximum mileage you want cover for and they adjust the price accordingly. Obviously the more miles you declare, the higher the premium. Think mine is set at 4000 which is way more than I ever do…
Thank you for the video 👍😊
Thank you for the video 👍😊
Are they stock wheels
The car originally had the ROstyle wheels, but these are the minilite replicas: www.mgocspares.co.uk/parts/1_3_355_1884_4093/alloy-wheels?srsltid=AfmBOopuNEd1DtdD6BE9CkIOrhOmvZuNQKFBDgnKUGkeBHYDqyroe-EX
Hey there my good man. I am looking forward to purchasing an exhaust like yours but the problem is that I didn’t see anyone with this kind of exhaust. Would you mind doing a short or sending me a vid with you revving the bike a bit more? It would probably be beneficialnto you as well since many would probably want to hear the mivv sr-1.
Hey there. Yeah everyone seems to go for the Akra or the SC Project. But I wanted one that was road legal and the Mivv is a great option. Looks fantastic and plenty loud enough with the baffle out! I did a few revs with the baffle in and out on my install video if that of use: ua-cam.com/video/talcYd-Nvdc/v-deo.html Also Mivv themselves have some before and after clips too: ua-cam.com/video/wr-OFniLa4Q/v-deo.html Hope this helps 🙂
@ the mivv is road legal only if you have the catalytic converter installed, the baffle in and the servo mottor is connected to the exhaust valve. As for the install video, i saw it, but was wondering if you have a vid with a few more revs, and a bit higher rpm.
@@banAprilia I don’t have another video sadly, and the bike is de-fuelled and laid up for the winter. I might do more of a walk around of the exhaust next year with some sound clips as you say 👍🏼
Hardly a big ask to take your helmet off, they're just doing their job. Could of took it off filled up and been on your way in the time it took you to cry about taking your helmet off
The chain is 5/8" X 3/8" as the previous guy said! My first bike was a Gold Flash with Watsonian Sidecar in 1963...No Metrics Then! BSW-BSF-BA- Cycle and butressed!.None of your ISO stuff!. Latewr came UNF and UNC!. This with S.I. in the mid 1960s. Best to yoiu all! ...LA5 Warton Lancs.Also...Measure DIAMETER od Wheel Sprocket at Chain Pin Centre and Gearbox Sprocket. Make sure that One will divide exactly into the other! Then you wont get loose and tight sections of chain!.Tooth Number is not the be-all on this!,,,
Thanks for your comment there. And for the advice regarding the sprocket teeth. I hadn’t thought to do that, although when I spin the wheel the chain slack is uniform throughout its length, so no noticeable tight spots. Will double check in any case 😊
I bought a 1959 BSA A7SS (500) when I passed my test in 1969, I paid £95 and got it with 12 monthly payments. I was 16 at the time and an apprentice turner. I'm 71 now and have a 1250 Suzuki Bandit. Been retired 6 years. My brother had an A10 SR like yours. Lovely bike you have there.
Sounds like a lovely BSA you had, and I do love the muscle bikes like the bandit. Once had my eye on a Honda CB1300 but other things got in the way of a purchase. Thanks for the comment 😊
I would put the new c clip on.
It was my intention to use it but it was just so damn difficult to work with. To be fair, I did go for a long ride after fitting and it was absolutely fine so I have confidence with this one. I also double checked the rivets and they are the same distance as the old chain so should be ok🤞🏼
5/8 x 3/8 is the size/pitch of the sprocket teeth, so - as you discovered - the overall widths of the chain can vary and still be intended to fit the same size sprocket.. The gap between those outer plates and inner plates looks like an 'O' or 'X' ring chain would look, standard chains would normally have the plates pretty much touching.. I can't vouch for BSA but most British bikes were made in an era when seal-type chains didn't exist, so no allowance was made for wider chains, I do know that on some bikes it isn't possible to fit chains with seals because they would chew the back of the Primary Chaincase and/or gearbox.. Also, drive chains can flail about a bit at speed, so keep a careful eye on it to make sure it doesn't eat something expensive !..
@@jjrider6758 Thanks for the comment as always 😊. I kind of stumbled across that chain when I was deliberating on the rather expensive RK X-ring options. Thought it was worth the risk at only £20 and I confirmed that it wasn’t an O or X-ring with the supplier, but it is quite wide as you can see. A few days after, I had my head under the bike near the centre stand and you can actually see the clearance to the engine, as you can from the back of the bike at a squint. Plenty of clearance for this one so I’m comfortable with it and I made a slight adjustment to the chain slack after my camping trip. So I think we’re all good👌🏼. Need to make sure it’s properly dried after each wash and lubricated as the rust on the old one was a bit of a surprise I must admit!
Yep cool vid Chris. Thanks. I remember those type of country lanes from my youth in Kent. My Super Rocket resides with me here in country Victoria (Australia). It's a beautiful 'mid-rangey' motor that 650 eh.
@@joolstacho8114 Ahh, a fellow Super Rocket owner! Thanks for the comment 😊. I actually follow a guy in Australia and some of the roads out there look fantastic! And yeah the bike is lovely to ride. Plenty quick enough when I remember to twist the throttle with some intent. She’s definitely loosened up over the past year or so and seems more free revving now. Enjoy the classic 😊
Your car is absolutely In awesome condition ❤
Thank you! I do try and keep her in good shape 🙂.
@@CharltonsClassics She is in excellent shape, nearly as good as you 😀
Wow, do all MGB have the gear box oil dipstick?
I believe that for the rubber bumpers they moved to a side mounted fill plug and overflow on the gearbox which you have to be under the car to access. While the dipstick can be a bit fiddly to access on the earlier models, I still think it’s better than the later design 🤔
3.17 looks alright to me 😅
I’ve got a 22 GT Pro it’s been a great bike it really has, this year I took it down to the South of France in 40c heat and it handled it all with ease. You do know you can drop the arse end if you hold in the home button by 20mm, I’m over 6’ but it’s still welcome, the auto indicators shut off too early for my liking (personal choice) so I keep it manual. The stock screen isn’t so good, swapped out for a WRS unit some improvements but still not what I’d call good Upper and lower crash bars fitted (lower ones good for fitting highway pegs on those long motorway drags) Triumph make you close the throttle for 5 seconds when you change riding modes, so just put cruise control on (throttle is effectively closed) and you can change modes without losing drive - worth knowing if you’re buying one The 22 model rolls you into the tank (seat design), the 24 is supposed to cure this The auto rev feature is supposed to be there I’ll be changing mine in 25, haven’t decided yet (it was an ex demo) it’s reliability has been superb unlike the new GS1300 Good review 👍
Thanks for the comment 😊. I didn’t realise you could lower the bike until after riding it, but that would have been nice to try. Quite a good idea really! Yes the screen was a disappointment. I couldn’t believe how noisy it was, although I’ve never really been a fan of standard exhausts, so maybe it would be less noticeable with an aftermarket slip on. Did the WRS screen reduce the noise at all, or did you just find it better for wind protection? As for the riding modes, I wasn’t aware of that either, but I’m one of those guys that would find enjoyment in reading the manual in the evening, so looking forward to learning more about it. Planning on getting one the year after next and have some long distance trips lined up which will be great. And it was so enjoyable that I don’t have any plans to try anything else as a comparison. Thanks again for the useful info and good look with the next purchase 👍
@ WRS unit is slightly longer and wider but it still retains a good look and avoids looking like some mahoosive sail attached to the bike, I also added bigger winglets from Puig (daft money) they also help….. The problem as you’re probably aware is the aero on an ADV, you get the all day comfort but if you really start pushing it you’ll know all about it - these bikes are also electronically pinned to an absolute maximum of 127mph, that’s down a fair way on other ADV’s but if you’re riding these bikes at those speeds you need a rethink. If you’ve only known faired sports bikes that slip through the air you’ll never achieve that on one of these, the other thing I would suggest is keeping the screen in the low position at higher speeds (notice you hadn’t done that). They’ll probably a new Tiger out by your planned purchased date, but whatever you do good luck - ride safe 👍
@@andrewshore262 Ha I know what you mean about some of the screens out there. Will definitely look into the WRS one, thanks for the suggestion. And yeah you’re right about the speed; can’t imagine it being fun up at nearly 130 on a Triumph Tiger! Thanks for the comment and the advice 🙂
Never heard the 4 minute cooling fan bit before, maybe circuit isnt relayed and 4 mins to protect switch ?
I have tried searching online for a copy of the manual (to save me going in the attic) but I can't find the particular page that describes the warnings. From memory it was so that you don't overheat the motor, and to be fair, 4 minutes is more than enough to bring the temperature back down to 'N'. I guess you also have other techniques such as putting the blower on and setting the cabin temp to hot if it ever came to it...
