Loving the videos you are posting and its great to see Milles finally getting the appreciation they deserve in a world where 916s and SP1s stole the limelight. Fantastic, simple, analog, modern classics that are far more reliable than people think. Once the sprag, starter solenoid and battery cables are done, theres not much else goes wrong with the gen1 bikes. Theres a parasitic battery drain from the clocks which is inconvenient if the bike has been sat for a few weeks but keeping her connected to a battery tender solves that. Also the pinch bolts on the Öhlins forks should only be torqued to something silly like 8 or 12nm, barely beyond hand tightened or it will crack the fork bottoms. For this reason, I wont take the whole bike for new tyres, just the wheels. I learnt that very expensive lesson, the hard way! Anyway, keep up the good work, ride safe, enjoy and I look forward to your next video, which I'm guessing is you giggling like a child at the induction roar?
That’s great to hear, thanks 😊. I’ll be honest, given the weather I haven’t been able to really open her up and listen, but when it’s a bit a bit warmer I’ll go for a ride without the ear plugs and stretch her legs properly. Such a wonderful sounding bike and every time I walk up to her I have a huge smile on my face. Such a beautiful design👌🏼 Good shout with the forks too! Never thought of that when changing tyres!
Ahh thanks buddy. Yeah sure, they are the TechSpec Gripster Tank Grips. Not as 'sharp' as the Stomp Grips so better when not using leathers. So I didn’t personally notice a difference in sound, but it did give the bike more mid range grunt (paired with the eprom and filter too). There will be a follow up video covering this, and I fully recommend it 😀
It's a must do Mille mod. As Charlton has said, it noticeably props the midrange. The airbox mod helps too, if you have the extra budget and the induction noise is unreal. AP Workshops is the go to place for all of it. Griff is THE Aprilia guru.
@@stoicthedog You know, one thing I really enjoy about this little hobby channel is that it’s a great platform for people to share ideas, learning, and personal experiences. Thanks for your contributions 😊.
Good mods you just got the air box breather mod to do and set up those trim pots to get the best out of that chip I think I've re connected the leaner map on the ECU the snipped maybe green wire I think . Clean bike look after her , have you greased the rear needle bearings or would have been easy with the header out of the way .
Hi there, thanks for the comment. I actually had no idea about the trim pots and am confused after reading a few things online. Also struggling to find much info on the breather mod. What is this exactly? As for the rear needle bearings, the previous owner has thankfully stripped these out, cleaned and re-greased only a few hundred miles ago. How often would you recommend doing them? Thanks again 🙂
@@CharltonsClassics ok The rear dog bone bearings maybe every two years . The trim pots on our basic ECU it's not hard take the seat and cover off the box with the epprom you changed has two potentiometers one front one rear they should be at 12 o'clock good place to start with but remember our bikes normally add more in the rear pot to turn the poor thing 420 degrees of rotation I ended with the rear one around one o'clock and the front near the eleven o'clock leave at 12 go ride around 5000rpm check plugs and adjust or if your lucky and have a gas anaziler you can remove the plugs from the pipes and set both cylinders. Air box mod basically stops that oil in your box . The right cavity looking from above is where the discharge pipe from the rear cylinder should have been fitted and with filter media and a metal plate drilled collects any oil and allows it to drain back where it came from . I will do a you tube vid on my channel and it will all make sense . Oh and I had to connect the snipped wire .it was way too rich with it disconnected ,I can show you that also if you wish.
@@captbarb6642 Thanks for all of the information there. I would love to see that actually. In fact I'm sure a lot of people would as nothing is coming up UA-cam...
Great job! Many of the mods, I did them also to my Mille. Heard you talking about the clutch mod. Let me share my experience... Oberon slave - great upgrade, much better than OEM, in terms of reliability (the OEM one will fail). But what really makes the difference is the clutch master/ pump. I recommend the Accossato master cylinder in combination with the Oberon slave. The bike will feel totally different, clutch very easy to handle, and lots of adustability. Also, the clutch liquid will stay white and clear for a long time. You will have to get rid of the choke/fast idle system though (does not fit on the handlebar)
Hi mate, thanks for the advice, really appreciate it. Didn’t realise the OEM one was probe to failure; thought people changed it purely to give it a lighter feel. Might have to add it to the list 😊. Cheers again!
Just to add another voice to the recommendation. I did the Oberon clutch slave upgrade on my 03 Mille R after the OEM failed. The Oberon is lighter but not much. The big thing is that it hasn't failed in 9 years of use. The old girl is due a bit of pampering before summer so now I'm off to nosey at Accosatto's website.
@@andreitatinThanks for the heads up, man. I hadn't even thought about the master as it has always just worked. After 21 years, the OEM is probably due for retirement so that's all the excuse I need.
