This is a really interesting topic! I haven't seen anyone talk about this in a while, coming up with ideas are, strange. I often get inspired by artists, but always do something to make it different. But days ago, I had a really good idea for an animation that I can't do yet, I feel it`s a bunch of inspirations I've had from things I've seen today, yesterday, months or years ago. But it's so different from the things I inspired from I can't even recall, it makes something so original I'm afraid someone can steal it from me. The story that I thought is something so eerie, unthinkable, shocking, beautiful with hard beginnings and an end that ties to the IP (Intelectual Property) I'm inspired. Some people wouldn't even try it, it's so surreal to place characters in such unseen scenarios. Do the others would do something like this? Representing a certain character smoking, or a certain character having the doubt of their own sexuality? Doing animations from IPs are difficult, I try my best at representing their characteristics, and I always feel I nailed it.
There's an interesting theory in regards to "original ideas". I don't quite know the name of the theory itself, but I'll do my best to explain it: This theory says that whenever we have an idea is as if we throw that idea to the "universe". Every single human in the world shares this same "universe" and everyone is throwing ideas to it, is almost like everyone shares ideas around the world. Imagine you live in the US and have an idea, when it's thrown to that universe, there's a possibility it I'll go to someone in Japan. It's insane, Try searching about "who copied Dennis, The Menace" you'll see something similar, in short, no one copied no one, since the 2 authors lived in the US and UK in such a time there wasn't any accessibility (in the 50's). I know about this for about 5 years, I still feel afraid of having a good idea because it could be stolen unintentionally hahaha...

Ay I believe the exact same thing tbh, I think the very fact that we are human beings and we all share a very similar ancestor even of different races and cultures, we often generate very common ideas across culture and now in this almost global society we live in, all of these ideas are remixing and interesting combinations of stuff are coming out in the things we create and from a certain perspective it looks like an “original creation”, when it was already created long ago, just the universal legacy of that idea has blossomed further.
