I too stumble on upon this problem quite often. scientists don't exactly come up with new ideas, making a discovery is like playing sudoku. they study phenomena, they do math, they do observations, and then they make the invention. they don't randomly come up with a new invention years ahead their time and instantly know every single detail about it. if someone wanted to make a time machine they will need to know how space time works first.
Ideas that come to my mind: - A nationwide maglev train (cargo and passenger) network in the US - 900 GW Nuclear majority US electric grid - Mass produced 5-10 or 40-50 mixed use buildings for cities - Mass produced city streets with bike lanes, transit lanes, and wide side walks
That's what I keep on saying unto others. Nothing really is original everything is a copy of others and evolved into a different variant of their parent
Whenever I start watching a vid from this channel I think like"Omg I will loose all hope that life is grand and awesome after this" At the end of it I get more hope and inspiration.
This is a sobering and much needed reality check for us creators working hard to make our own thing. But in a way, it's kind of a blessing that everything is (not completely) new - that everything is a variation of something before, not only (like you said) because it builds on what'd been before, but also because of how we view and enjoy things. Let me explain: Reading books, or walking into movies or tv shows, we enjoy surprises, but there are certain core elements that remain the same (and we expect them to) - tropes and story structure. Everything runs on a basic core system like mods in a video game, and these skeletal mythos and conventions are older than sin. It's how you dress them up that makes them interesting. Too many subversions and people actually get turned off. (I think this explain why so many people didn't like the ending of GOT, but I digress). People all have an insatiably favorite genre or genres that we enjoy, and we keep going back to them throughout our lives. If nothing was made because it was simply a variation of something before it, we would have NONE of the favorites we grew up with. Everyone would be re-reading or re-binging the same story for years on end until we croak, and that's just boring. Variation means that there are other similar shows and stories that we can enjoy equally (or sometimes, even more so) even after finishing our favorite series. This process continues indefinitely. It's dizzying to think about, but we do it all the time. 🤷
I play guitar. 99.9% of what I play I have copied from others. Yet when I write a song, it is mine, even if I get the idea from something or someone else. When I write fiction, I am borrowing from my own experience or what I have heard or seen. Fascinating, Thoughty2! It doesn't however take away my enjoyment of it.
Great video, thanks for the upload!! - Although I have to add that *Christopher Booker might not be the best source of information,* as his book "The Seven Basic Plots" was (also) heavily critizised. For example: tragedy is a "genre" and not a plot in itself - it's far too broadly defined for that and a gazillion of widely different plots would fall into that category without any shared caracteristics other than a tragic plot development.
I had just watched, back to back, "Volcano" with Tommy Lee Jones, and "Dante's Peak" with Pierce Brosnan, both released with two months of each other in 1997. I used to blame studio spies, but then, the months of writing and rehearsals make the chance of that just about nil. Thanks for helping me understand.
"Underwater basket weaving" NOFX - Anarchy Camp A phrase that's been used since the 50's And all this talk about how there are but a few different stories, but not a single mention of Joseph Campbell's Monomyth as described in Hero With a Thousand Faces.

Yeaaah, I dont buy this one cheif. Sure, most ideas usually draw inspiration from one or more sources, but it's a massive stretch to say it's impossible to have an original idea. Let's take a fantasy trope of orcs and elves for example. Those had to be created at some point. There would have been a time when those were new ideas. And that goes for almost everything. It was a new, original idea at some point.
Thank you. This was my thought from the beginning of the video. Also, the fancy smartphone I was watching the video on didn't even exist when I was born.
I guess the point is that everything we make is inspired by something else.. smartphones were inspired by normal phones, which were inspired by telephones, which were made by experimenting ideas until success, which started with a simple idea (how to communicate from big distances), which was inspired by normal communication and the lack of better communication. The point being is that we always aspire to make things better, to improve. But in order to have an idea, there always needs to be a thought process, a comparison, experimentation, inspiration and motivation. It has to start somewhere, from something that directly affects us in some way.
Someone needed to make this video. Art is like an evolutionary process or similar to the passing of genetic information. New things are born and the process continues.

My favorite example of Twin Films:
White House Down
Olympus has fallen.
I've seen both at least twice, and cannot remember which characters are in which or specifically what happens in which.
Channing Tatum Vs Gerald Butler. Two shitty actors in amusing but shitty films.
My guilty pleasure favorite: deep impact & Armageddon
My actual favorite: enemy & the double
Honorable mention: the invitation & get out
Glad I checked before I made this comment
Well you probably made someone else's video too, right ?
A British Gentelman's science channel is advertising a flashy informal gaming app.
I hope no one actually watching is dumb enough to try that horseshit mobile scam game crap, but they can pay my fav youtubers all they want, I'll just mumble something to myself during the ads
Thank you sir, sincerely. This has helped me to move on with my creativity.
I needed to hear this. I used to be a creator and I eventually quit because I felt it'd all been done before, and what could I possibly bring to every story that's been done before. Thank you, Thoughty2.
You’re brain can’t create new ideas
Artists and scientists: are we a joke to you?
scientists don't exactly come up with new ideas, making a discovery is like playing sudoku.
they study phenomena, they do math, they do observations, and then they make the invention.
they don't randomly come up with a new invention years ahead their time and instantly know every single detail about it.
if someone wanted to make a time machine they will need to know how space time works first.

Especially the ones who actually get paid
This video was sponsored by RAID: Area 51.
Isekai manga,anime/VN artist need to watch this video.
Ideas that come to my mind:
- A nationwide maglev train (cargo and passenger) network in the US
- 900 GW Nuclear majority US electric grid
- Mass produced 5-10 or 40-50 mixed use buildings for cities
- Mass produced city streets with bike lanes, transit lanes, and wide side walks
That's what I keep on saying unto others.
Nothing really is original everything is a copy of others and evolved into a different variant of their parent

This is a sobering and much needed reality check for us creators working hard to make our own thing. But in a way, it's kind of a blessing that everything is (not completely) new - that everything is a variation of something before, not only (like you said) because it builds on what'd been before, but also because of how we view and enjoy things. Let me explain:
Reading books, or walking into movies or tv shows, we enjoy surprises, but there are certain core elements that remain the same (and we expect them to) - tropes and story structure.
Creativity is born in *STILLNESS*
Only by letting the consciousness to flow freely that we are able to come up with new ideas
This is the exact reason why we should stop bringing stuff with us to the toilet

It's the fact that even the ideas you copy are themselves copies from other ideas which are copied.

And all this talk about how there are but a few different stories, but not a single mention of Joseph Campbell's Monomyth as described in Hero With a Thousand Faces.
Star Wars, Avatar, Robin Hood, Pochohontis, Terminator and so many others are all the same story. A beautiful warrior princess, her renegade knight and a motley crew of misfits fight overwhelming odds and prevail. We all love that story.

Basil: "May I ask what you were expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window? Sydney Opera House, perhaps? the Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically past?..."
Mrs Richards: "Don't be silly! I expect to be able to see the sea!"
Basil: "You can see the sea, it's over there between the land and the sky."
Mrs Richards: "I'm not satisfied. But I shall stay. But I expect a reduction."

I read that in a book. I am not lying I promise
the idea itself is totally unoriginal.
Library of Babel. QED. It has been done
Elves are from norse mythology
he literally says that there was a time where an original idea was possible
This man is speaking the truth!
If you don't believe him. Try to think of a new color if you can.
