Jimi expressed hundreds of times that there was no proper way to play his music, John has played Jimi's songs true to Jimi's versions countless times. He tried something different for a song hes played many times, and it sounds great, just because it doesn't sound like Jimi Hendrix himself wasn't playing it doesn't mean it isnt good. Jimi would be proud of anyone playing his music any way they like. True fans of Jimi and music would understand that. Incompetent fools, will not.
@@JakeFields92 it’s still in rhythm melodically. The double stops..all of that is common for this tune Mayer just added is usual flavor for it without sounding like somebody trying to copy another player
He is a good guitarist, and a good singer, but his vocal style on this song grates on my nerves. Hendrix's wistfulness in telling of the impermanence of romantic relationships is perfect. Mayer sings it in such an overwrought way that it comes off as insincere.
There used to be a halfway decent cover by John Mayer on here where he was playing it solo, but I guess it got taken down. I usually like John Mayer, but all of the versions left of this song are garbage.
I agree with you. I haven't heard the halfway decent one by Mayer bit this version rates very sadly against Jimi's original. Mayer doesn't control his vocal accent and the piano is too tinkly and as a result of both the soul has disappeared.

I can't believe I haven't heard this one yet. It's different. It's awesome.
I was at this show. Man that was a good night
esse cara é um músico incrível
That solo was out of the emotional context but I love his vocals
Not really it’s in the right key and rhythmically it was good
@@keithremedy I didn’t say it was out of key or not rhythmically cool lol I said it was out of context of the song.

ua-cam.com/video/5oPyBHRrk-4/v-deo.html this one?
He's talented, and a great guitarist, but for some reason John Mayer's voice just annoys me.
I agree not good at all!! I love Jimi and I love John but this isn’t a John song to cover
Lol
The guitar parts on this are better than every version of this song I ever heard Jimi do. & I’m saying this as a massive Hendrix Stan
does nothing for me I'll tell u that..I like him sometimes but not here one bit
BAD COVER
total crap!
