- Darius Milhaud (1892-1974)
Suite for violin, clarinet and piano, Op. 157b (1936) with score
0:00 - 1. Ouverture
1:32 - 2. Divertissement
4:29 - 3. Jeu
6:09 - 4. Introduction et final
Jean-Marc Fessard (clarinet), Frédéric Pélassy (violin), Eliane Reyes (piano)
I'm enjoying this piece a lot more than I thought. I had not really listened to music of Milhaud's music, and being a clarinet player myself, this piece immediately caught my attention. I'd love to dive more into more chamber works like this. Love this piece a lot!! The interplay between the clarinet and violin is something else, along with the piano providing some great foundational chords, interacting with both instruments. I think I might need to start learning this piece at some point.
Wonderful, charming music....and utterly beautiful....!

Really interesting piece, and that second movement is very lovely indeed. Thanks for the upload.
I learned a couple little things from this. Thanks for posting!
Charming piece and beautifully performed! Bravo!
A joy to listen to, a joy to study!
Lovely!
Excelent piece!
Excellent.Bravo!
Great piece👍👍👍
I read the source for this music comes from incidental music he wrote for an Anouihl play. It might make a nice wind band transcription; it has some of the feel of the later Suite française.
The first part that it was talking about
Now we know who Nancarrow's favorite composer was.
this is good :) tastefully done too
(and writing for a C clarinet is savage though)
The part is in Bb. It's just written in C in the score. There is a low D or two written towards the end that would be unplayable on a C clarinet.

This sounds like it could be by Joe Hisaishi in a Miyazaki movie 😍
If you enjoy this piece, you should invest in listening/performing his Scaramouche for two pianos but was later transcribed for both saxophone and clarinet! I could recommend recording if interested.
Man, you just got me to feel for the 2nd movement that much more by saying that.
Update: Rewatched Kiki's Delivery Service and the flight scene between Kiki and Tombo, and the 3rd movement came to mind lol

Damon J.H.K. 현재 연주하려고 연습 중입니다 ㅎㅎ 클라리넷은 난이도 괜찮은 편이에요
좋은 건설 비판

Hello I is a cute cat 🐈
Interesting🤔

I'm not even gonna try the violin or clarinet part. Looks soooooo hard!
Sadly, I'm playing the violin part right now with a couple friends, as my friend is a music major and doing this for one of his classes. Its quite hard...especially the first movement
Bertzvi it also depends on how well u play it. The performance actually went better than I thought but there’s a difference between playing it and actually doing it well.
@Bertzvi This is an incredibly stupid comment from a clearly juvenile mind!!
It's not that difficult... If course you have to perform it well but that is for every piece out there. So no, it's -especially technical- rather easy
Well, I would love to judge the difficulty of this piece, but to be in order to I need the notes. So if anybody of would be kind enough to send me a link where I can get them from, I would be very happy. (I need to play that) :)
do you have the pdf? want to play so much ! ! !
Andres Ferrari hello!! Did you find them? I only need the clarinet score, do you have it? 😁
Also interested. Preferably in the score and parts
You can find the score online I believe, but must purchase the parts. sheetmusicplus has the score and parts for 23$

Is the clarinet in the key of A?
C score, but probably played on a B flat
Thank you!
Yeah judging by tone quality on quite a few notes, it is almost certainly played on a Bb
Why not A? the piece is closer to a sharp key than flat
Some players transpose the duet for clarinet/violin (third mvt, I think) to A clarinet. And the piece can't be played on C clarinet because there are notes that would go to a low D.
Where can I find the Sheets for free?
Why don't call it "Tango for violin, clarinet and piano"?
Only the 1st movement looks like a "Tango"
Pièce très intéressante d'un compositeur injustement mis de côté en France : "nul n'est prophète ..."
C'est le sort de beaucoup trop de compositeurs français dans ce pays.

Ok
I would like the writing to recover its power of invocation and not be confined to the "Amazing!" "Beautiful" "Great" “Wow” “love it” “Wonderful” and others "Thanks for sharing" it makes me put my hair on my head!
Philippe Cirse well, your complaining about what other people choose to write about is an even deeper layer of abstraction from the actual piece, so I suppose you put some of them hairs in your head yourself.
@@Johnga91 it annoys me that people are not more constructive in their comments !! Milhaud is such a fabulous composer with such richness of melodic speech, with an orchestration constantly renewed in the use of the stamps of the orchestra .. :-)
I too put hair on my head when I hear this piece.
Lead by example. Your comment contributes nothing.
