Ryan I decided to tackle my cabinets myself after watching many of your videos on UA-cam I have oak cabinets and I am currently in the wood filler sanding phase. I can’t thank you enough for your videos and knowledge. It has been incredibly valuable and my sense of accomplishment has been tremendous so far. I can’t wait to share the end results! Thank you so much! 🙏🏻
Great video as usual. Informative for pros and diyers as well. A nice occasion where customers can hear what it actualy takes and how much does it cost to paint a kitchen cabinets. It is not a two day and couple of hundreds type of project! Thanks for sharing! 👍
Thank you, Ryan! More great information and another great video! I'd like to add another advantage to DIY: If a family member is an introvert or has health issues, DIY means not having to deal with strangers being in the house for hours and days on end, which can be very stressful. Also, for pet owners, keeping pets contained away from the work areas is much less stressful when they aren't freaked out by strange people and strange smells in their house.
I've used it a few times and never had any problems. Good primer. If you run into any tannin issues, then just use a spray can of Kilz Original and hit any tannin spot bleed through and you'll be fine.
Would you recommend a water base sealer if painting white so it doesn’t yellow over time? We are getting new flooring, would you recommend flooring first, then paint cabinets, I’m mainly concerned about the kick getting damaged. I don’t think flooring installers remove kick but I haven’t gotten to that point yet. Great video, thanks.
I don’t think a sealer is necessary. Emerald and Advance both don’t yellow. Older oil based finishes used to yellow, but these ones don’t. Floors or cabinets first is kind of a wash either way. Ask a painter and they will say do cabinets first, ask a flooring contractor and they will say do floors first. I like cabinets first because flooring shouldn’t damage the cabinets in any way, and you can always go back and brush the quarter round again after floors (nobody will ever look at it closely, so that should work). Idea would be if you happen to spill or get any overspray on the floor, they’ll get refinished anyway.
Are the paints and primers that you recommend latex or oil based? Also, what do you recommend for filling any damaged spots on cabinets? I am hoping to paint my oak cabinets but I want some of the grain to show through, in your opinion, will that look terrible?
I usually recommend latex paints o we oils due to he lower VOCs and ease of use. If you like the grain showing through, go for it, your opinion is all that matters.

What do you think of Stix primer? I know wood tanning doesn't get blocked by that primer but want to know your thought?

I am building new cabinet doors using exterior MDF. Do I follow the same priming and painting steps you show in your videos?
You should be able to follow the same steps and have it turn out great.
How do we fill in the oak grain on our cabinet doors prior to painting?
I made a whole video about this you can check out: How To Fill Wood Grain For Painting Oak Cabinets
