I saw a good tip. Start painting the BACK of all cabinet doors, let dry and flip over so that the last is the face to be painted so you don’t have to lay the face down on any wood or other surface, that can damage or chip the face of the cabinets.
Nice work! I don’t have a right angle drill adapter so when trying to unscrew something at an odd angle I use a socket wrench and have found that my phillips head bits (single sided, not the double sided bits containing phillips/flathead options) will fit snug within a 10mm or 11mm socket.
Good job brother I like this color. Two quick tips...One, always pour paint using the back side of can so it doesn't get paint on the front where it tells you what product it is. Two, paint back first then front of door cabinet/drawer
Holy cow, I'm 10 seconds into the video. I have solid OAK throughout my house, your "before" kitchen looks just like mine. I love the new teal design with the black hardware, under cabinet lighting, and white countertop! MAJOR TRANSFORMATION. Instant sub!
His cabinets are maple not oak . unless you use a filler on the oak grain and sand and probably need to do it at least twice the grain will show thru ,lot of time and patience to get a smooth finish .
Just started on my cabinets..this was so helpful..I'm a beginner....and now I'm excited to get started...thanks for sharing your techniques..very helpful
I’m first time to start DIY. My circumstances changed and now have to do my own repairs. I’m going to do this for the first time and have other projects to tackle, I really enjoyed how you clearly give us exactly what items to use and explain process instead of just saying your leaving them in the description. Thank you Tool Guide.
Word to the wise...the guy doesnt use gloves with TSP, so he may or may not know wtf he's talking about. For instance, i bet if you watch other how-to instructables, they'll recommend a paint that does require a primer for surfaces that will endure as much cleaning as kitchen cupboards will need.
Love this color! Almost finished with my kitchen cabinets. Dont know why i waited so long to do it. Used powder tsp and wore gloves. Water turned black from cleaning. Applied one coat tinted primer, two coats paint. Dont let lazy paint guy tell you he cant tint primer. This is so easy and seems like solid paint job.
This video was very enjoyable. Your explanations are short and clear, the pace of your delivery is on the money, camera angles are great, and the length makes the experience enjoyable. I will definitely look at your other videos when renovations are required. Thank you.
Thank you so much. Your video was short and very simple, I needed this for some cabinet doors that I made for my kitchen and did not know how to paint them since my paint sprayer did not do a good job on my sample piece. Gonna try this tomorrow.
Love the way teach. Your teaching style makes folks feel that they can do it. Thank you. The cabinets came out beautifully. My question is what extra step could I take if I wanted to remove the grain look? I have oak and wanted them to look smooth without the grain. Thank you for all the help.
Me too! There was so much grain. I tried a few different things I saw on UA-cam but the best was actually the cheapest. I brushed on watered down drywall mud, let it dry, sanded, sprayed on some shellac based primer, and now I’m painting them and they look good!
Thank you so much for the video. It gives me the confidence to give my cabinets a shot. My cabinets are oak and are over 30 years old. My latest quote for cabinet replacement is $35,000 and is probably the best quote I have gotten yet. My question to you my friend is do you really think I have a shot at making this happen? I have by the way used the all in one paint on other projects and love the brand. I'm also looking for the grain not to show through. Any ideas? Just more coats? Thank you.
Thank you for sharing your tips! For kitchen cabinets wouldn't I need to add a special coating so I can easily clean them or is the paint that was used not going to wear off from constant cleaning. Thank you.
New subscriber 😊 thank you for this helpful video. You gave me confidence to do my kitchen cabinets. Just retired and want to learn how to do woodwork 🤞🏼
I just did this on my bar cabinets. Used Sherwin Williams enamel for trim. High end stuff. 2 coats each side. Took a full week to finish. Very good coverage. You can barely see the grain. It gives it a bit of texture but looks great. I'm far from a pro but it wasn't bad. You may want to use paint tripods.
The colour is beautiful! Love this. I wish I could paint mine, I don’t know if you need to sand it if it’s a dark colour to repaint it lighter? But wow this turned out so nice!
You didn’t get bubbles when you rolled? I am struggling so much with this paint. Actually found your video looking for a different way to paint our cabinets than using heirloom paint because I’m having so much difficulty getting a smooth finish!!
I am thankful for you Shari g your DIY project and the kitchen cabinets but a lot of times nobody says if the paint paint is semi flat eggshell glossy I mean that’s a big big deal too to throw in there. If you don’t mind telling us what kind of paint it actually was on the glossy part. I would appreciate that thank you.
Hi, thanks for this! I was wondering if I could do this without sanding. I didn't notice you fill the holes from the hardware, but you drilled new holes. How did you deal with this?
That’s what the tsp substitute was for basically if I’m not wrong. You could also use what they call liquid sandpaper. It’s basically paint stripper but it’s diluted so it just basically roughens the surface for the paint to adhere well.
Yes, they did for a bit. But to fix that, I kept all the doors open for the night and then added those little rubber stoppers. Just needs a little time to fully dry/cure.
paint the backside first , you always want to do all you can to protect the face side from marring ..... and if you're going to use a mini roller . might as well just use a mini roller , no need to apply with a brush then go over it with a mini roller
thanks for the video. I am going to repaint some old desk and drawers. the painting tip sounds very helpful, would try that when i start my project. could i have the tool guide, please.
okay so here is my question. I want to paint my kitchen cabinets. Currently they are off-white. I want to paint them a dark gray. My concern is chipping. I have painted cabinets before (2 coats) and I noticed that they chip pretty easily. How can you protect your cabinets from that? Thanks.
Did you seal it with a sealer? Not being funny but a serious question. I’ve painted and stripped my cabinets about 2-3 times and thought I should have sealed them. Thanks in advance
I’ve always wondered if you paint the cabinet’s interiors. That always seemed like it would make a mess. Also, the cabinet door surround also needs to painted. Did you have to do that or were your doors flush with the frame of the cabinets?
Word to the wise...the guy doesnt use gloves with TSP, so he may or may not know wtf he's talking about. For instance, i bet if you watch other how-to instructables, they'll recommend a paint that does require a primer for surfaces that will endure as much cleaning as kitchen cupboards will need.

I've been told to at least sand down enough to create "teeth" for the new primer and paint to grab onto. Any tips appreciated. I am about to redo my cabinets as well. How do I figure out how much paint I need for cabinets? how much paint did you use for your kitchen with the spruce color, my kitchen seems the same size as yours? thx
I used a broken plastic clothes hanger to mix my paint. Fits right in the drill and the end of it has a wide part. Mixes paint with no problem and was free.

Thanks Mateo! That's a great idea, should have done that instead!
So now months later, how are they holding up? I noticed that there was no sealer over the paint and I wonder if that is needed. TIA
Love heirloom traditions paint, I also did my kitchen spruce. It's been a year and not a scratch.

No sealer

I used heirloom all in one on my front door. It's amazing. Highly recommend as well. Don't try to substitute. You'll have to prime first.

I’m following this question because my cabinets I’m doing sound like what ur describing
Following as well because the grain show's through on my cabinets and I want to repaint them and not have the grain showing through.
So I’m thinking you would generally want to paint the back side first to avoid any possibility of marks on the front facing side.
