    Another thing to mention is that if you are on EDX and click on the problem sets for that lesson, it will take you to the Harvard website, and you can just keep on taking the course from that website and when you’re done, you can get a free certificate directly from Harvard

    the course is great for beginners, you will find out quickly whether you are cut out for it or not, are you prepared to suffer for hours banging your head against the wall until your code works? each problem set is a higher wall you need to climb over, but if you get to the end you will have an incredible foundation and with your knowledge of C you will be able to pick up 90% of popular languages very easily, you will also truly appreciate the power of higher level languages like python and javascript
    one thing is guaranteed from CS50, if you put the effort in and dont give up, your level will increase dramatically in a short space of time

    I programmed here and there something, but nothing major, so I had a bit of a head start. I completed the first 5 weeks in 4 weeks. But then problem set 5, it took me 3 weeks. I am at the half now and this course is amazing

    I've been taking this class while doing a night shift at a hotel. I've asked a few questions in the Discord about specific problem sets at 4:00 AM and always gotten an answer within ten minutes. :)

    When I started cs50x I had zero prior experience and a few days to play with my scratchproject (a little fish game) and the came the second week with C. You most know that there are two versions of each problem within the problemset, easy and difficult. Well I remember the first problemset was "cash"..I cant remember what the program should do but it was indeed very simple and felt confident to look at "credit", the difficult version of "cash". In credit its your job to write a program that uses a special algorithm to identify creditcards, which is suprisingly complex considering that the problemset started with printing "hello world". And I remember credit so very well because it was such an iconic part of my programming journey. This was definitly beyond my programming knowledge at the time but I got so excited that I could not let go...to this day I sometimes look at the program I wrote back then and just smile, because it is so chaotic and unnessecary complex that it screams: NOOB! but it works like a charm....It was the moment I knew I want to be a programmer because I loved this challenge so mutch...

      I completed "Сredit" 4 days ago. It was difficult, but I managed. After "Cash" it was difficult, to be honest. Where are you working now?

    I have completed a different CS50 course. I have not had any good experiences with it, at least in Europe. Whenever I had a interview the certificate was not discussed and there was no offer. I haven't even received a rejection from a company that works very closely with Havard. I don't regret doing the course, it was one of the best things I've ever done in n my life. But I guess the envy factor is just too high.

    So I’m in a situation where I’m getting out the army soon & I been doing GIS for 8 years. I can get out & be a GIS tech but they only make $35k-45k that’s a no go. Now if I get into development the pay doubles. I have two offers already for jobs and they say before you get out you need to know python. I want to do this course and be enrolled in college full time online & do a internship. The difficulty I hear about it is borderline stressing me out. I Ain’t scary or nothing it’s just failure is not a option. You got any tips?

    You don't need to pay money to get the certificate you get it for free at the end

    It is possible to get work after taking this course. Kombina (UA-camr) did it. And I will too. 😄👍

      I'm not sure if it's the same person but there is one guy who said it's possible to get a job after only CS50. Made a video about it with the interview. Well, he had some job experience before and during that which is connected with tech and knew other programs so it's not like he went from 0. So he made a good impression being really really busy. Just to say: I did CS50..its not enough. But what the CS50 teached us: Do not compare yourself with others. You probably can get a job but it all depends on the people in HR and your other skills. Not in Cisco or Facebook but smaller companies, there's a chance.

    Hi! I have a question regarding certificate. I saw on edx that if you take two courses of computer science,for example: CS50 Introduction to Computer Science and CS50W Web Programming with Python and Javascript ,you are eligible for a program certificate. Is that then still worth paying?

    Will the certificate benefit a highschool student for college applications?

    • @codebysophy
      @codebysophy  2 місяці тому

      It definitely won't hurt, but I can't say for sure that it will positively affect your college applications or make you stand out. It will however put you in a great position for success when you start undergrad should you go the CS route.

    It's worth mentioning that the online course gives you a full year to complete, even though its presented as ten weeks. Even if you don't finish in a year, your past assignments carry over to the next year
