    The Syrian revolution just turned three years old, but for the past year things haven't looked good for the rebels. Attacked from behind by the renegade Al Qaeda splinter group the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham, or ISIS, and from in front by a resurgent regime, Syria's moderate revolutionaries have been on a losing streak.
    But since the New Year, everything's changed, at least in the rebel-held north. ISIS is now fighting every other armed group in the country, and is abandoning its former strongholds all across northern Syria. A VICE News crew, the first western journalists in northwest Syria for months, has embedded with Syrian rebels fighting ISIS, and is following their rapid advance across Idlib province, until yesterday an ISIS stronghold. This is the only footage to come from the Syrian war's most recent and least understood turning point.

    Perhaps people posting uninformed mindless comments here should try to visit the middle east before they form their opinions and see that in most countries there are Muslims, Jews and Christians living peacefully together. Don't base your views on the news only, all you get to see is the parts where they are fighting.

    • @ToxicxChex
      @ToxicxChex 10 років тому +10

      I'm Lebanese and I've lived in Lebanon for half my life and I can quite confidently tell you the most ravaging and dangerous religion in the Middle East is Islam.
      Christians and Jews are prosecuted in every nation they are in.

    • @ToxicxChex
      @ToxicxChex 10 років тому +7

      No, the Maronite people have been in Lebanon since Roman times, and we were prosecuted up UNTIL the French and Youssef Bek Karam. Thank Fuck for the West.
      Islam always was radical, the achievements of Middle-Ages Arab World are really over exaggerated. They literally conserved Greek/Iranian/Semitic knowledge.

    • @TheRealXartaX
      @TheRealXartaX 10 років тому +3

      Said Harbieh
      Uh, no, there's a lot more to it than just conserving knowledge. Educate yourself.
      Islamic countries *did* oppress others to a degree (like Jizya), but that's nothing compared to what was going on in western countries at the time, so you can attribute it more to the times than Islam. All the west has accomplished in the middle east is toppling relatively stable and pretty secular (more secular than the US, at any rate) states. The hatred for the west that exists there is more than well founded.

    the real issue is not the ideology, its where the gun flow comes from. the real terrorists are the arms dealers and countries that secretly support half these terrorist groups and fund them with support,weapons and everything in between. if everyone in america was given an ak47 and a rpg how long until cities start to fall apart. that is the real problem in these countries. and for some reason countries still send them weapons including america,russia all isee is a huge trend. a crisis happens, a superpower like america or russia or whoever "supports them" then when the country falls apart they want to step in and help or in other worlds we'll install a puppet government.

    • @Aldarux
      @Aldarux 10 років тому +3

      It's not necessarily secretly but the weapons have been supplied to both sides indirectly. The US gave the Taliban weapons back in the 1980's to help stop Soviet rule in Afghanistan. Russia supplies weapons like the AK-47 or Kalashnikov to the Syrian government and as a result, whenever government forces are killed, a rebel steals their gun. The majority of rebel weapons in this war will be old but that does not mean that they are not effective.

    • @mauser7mm
      @mauser7mm 10 років тому

      Well all the Soviet satellite nations pretty much became 3rd/2nd world nations after the the collapse of the USSR so they sold their Russian military tech to any buyer. That would be why every Islamic country still has the Russian tech on both sides. All that cold war prep turned into the means for these countries to fight their civil wars.

    • @nolifeson1

    • @luciferobscurum2935
      @luciferobscurum2935 10 років тому

      I don't think they'll beat him. They'll try. For years they'll keep trying and the Syrian people will suffer as a result but at the end of this prolonged war Assad will (hopefully) emerge as Syria's surviving secular democratic leader.

    Watching this I couldn't help but think how hilarious it would be if the interviewer had no idea what they were saying at any point during the interview, and instead was just nodding while they were excitedly spouting gibberish at him.
    Without watching this again I can't remember a single question he actually asked this dude during breaks in his victory speech.
    However, as always I appreciate seeing another perspective.

    • @TheGamingFreakShow
      @TheGamingFreakShow 10 років тому +8

      in my honest and neutral opinion there isnt really a good side. If there was one i would say it would be the government as the most of the rebels are terrorists and are linked with al qaeda and much worse terror groups.
