Then the Hacktivist movement really kicked up leading up to occupy wall street, and I think around Wikileaks is when three letter agencies started cracking down/busting heads.
After that, Anonymous basically meant "FBI Honeypot" or "wannabe guy fawkes mask losers" for a while. Until the Sino-Russian intelligence and propaganda wings started coordinating over the last decade or so, and now you have agitprop groups bearing the name too.

I must agree 100% with #Discordian from Anonymous because I understand that its entire idea and organization would start to break down from within if its trusted members started to tamper with its foundation, whether they had good intentions or not. Deviating from the very core belief that defines its purpose and from which it draws the strength upon which its entire core idea and organization firmly rests would be a devastating path to pursue.
An analogy to what’s at risk is what happened to journalism and our mainstream media. They went from being the Fourth Estate, whose purpose was to scrutinize those in power, to becoming their mouthpiece, spreading misinformation and propaganda to shape the common people’s view of reality in response to the current narrative that is being dictated by a poorly hidden puppet master who has been laughing at us from behind the veil for a very long time.

The NSA is basically lawless (as is the US government in reality), but that does not per se make them more effective than independent hackers. It's a bit like saying the CIA is the best intelligence organisation based on the fact it is well funded and US-based. However nobody really knows, least of all the CIA (or NSA in the previous situation). Such is the nature of covert activities. It's a risk business.

which as far as I've always understood it means that, for the time being, this loosely affiliated group of individuals who make up the team called, "Anonymous," each one of them CAN actually afford to MOMENTARILY set aside their EGO need to always be right..just long ENOUGH to help END child sexpoloitation [because have they NOT heard that both boys & girls have been such victims?? why would they ever deny themselves the opportunity to end it?? unless they actually think that aspect of it al is not a problem?? #priorities!!]??
and why can't they set aside their ego's needs just long ENOUGH to stop little boys & girls & also teens from being trained to sacrifice their own lives in order to carry out ISIL 'missions??'
so, YES, they ARE "...aligning with..." various governments' powers so children can be protected and saved and freed by setting aside, momentarily, differences they have with governments - those that commit acts a lot of us don't agree with AT ALL. and they're still, afaik, continuing to do this long enough for some factions of the WORST of humanity to be stopped from continuing on with their evil deeds.
any other attitude and maybe only imho, is egoic, selfish & 100% immature.
also, that last question?
because of course Anonymous will "remain the same." because there was never a time when each & every single person who was/is a part of it was monolithic in their perspectives.
since there have likely always been those who slipped info to governments to help cause terrible people & groups to be taken down and believing the opposite is, also imho, quite naïve.

anonymous is a collective. so you can’t say anonymous as a whole has collaborated with the govt bc that’s quite literally public enemy #1. if anything a small part of them collaborated with them, but they aren’t truly apart of anonymous imo, bc they’re literally going against the bare fundamentals of what the group stands for and stands against.
