I love my sunchokes! I grow them in a hugelbed that is 50 meters long x 1 meter wide. (164feet x 3.28 feet). Mine are named Bianca. Here there are many different kinds.
Yacoon, love them too. I am more of a stu person so mix in all kinds of rootveggies in my cooking. The root that look like "sweet potato " are for eating. The roots that looks like sunchoke is for replanting. And you Will get some more! Love your energy! Lot's of love from Sweden!

I've never tried a sunchoke!! But here is South Carolina they grow wild all over the edge of roads and woodlands, I've always enjoyed the blooms late in summer 😊 I may try growing some to eat!!

I’ve never had either of these root veggies. Would love to see a video on how to prepare/cook them. Thank you for this info. Might give them a try in the garden this year!

Thanks for the video. I also live in SoCal. I planted six Jeruselum Artichoke plants in my garden and they are doing great right now and getting big. I didn't know much about them but knew they were a good survival food. I wasn't sure about how to eat them but after watching your video I'm excited to try them raw as you did since I'm also looking to eat as healthy as possible and want to benefit from the probiotics in them as you describe. I also have many other veggies growing. So fun. Take care and looking forward to more of your videos.

Great video. I planted some Sunchokes 6 months ago in S.C. My wife pulled some up thinking they were weeds. With luck, I'll have some of the same success you had. Thanks so much.

I left my Sunchokes in the soil over the autumn and early winter, here in the UK. The got absolutly hammered by slugs. I think better results are to be had container growing. My neighbours enjoyed the flowers though.

Moa constrictor oh what a waste... Try container next time and store the tubers in sand and bring indoor next time. Happy Gardening!

I bought some sunchokes from Trader Joes 3 years ago and planted them right into the ground and ate half of them. I've been getting sunchokes every winter/spring and always missed some in the ground and they grew again. Caution, they gave me gas(TMI?)! LOL.

Hi Wendi...I love your garden. So beautiful!!!! I do want to try to add some yacon in my yard. Do you recommend where can I get some please? I check Esty but I don't trust some of the source. 😁

Wow! got some many sunchokes in one pot! Great job! I love sunchokes, but I can't find any of them in local grocery store. I tried to plant some in my back yard, I already buried some last winter, but nothing comes out by now. I live in Texas, do you know what time they will germinate?

    Good stuff I love yacon,
but I never put them in a pot with soil.
just keep them together in a large pot
and in mid february I start potting them
add a little water. then put them near the window.
tomorrow I have to harvest mine
by monday it will be -4℃ in the Netherlands

When you store the yacon crown over winter, does it need any watering or just let the soil dry out?

    • @wendiland
      @wendiland  3 роки тому

I believe they are hardy to zone 8-10. Need at least 5-6 months of warmth. I would get then started indoor in colder regions.
