- With relaxation on my mind I checked into a nice hotel for my one night stay in Madurai; the 5 star Heritage Madurai resort.
Paying $110 for a room in India isn't something I do that often. I'm usually out exploring and adventuring all day so I don't get enough benefit out of a luxury hotel to warrant the expense. As I was just stopping over in a city famous for its temples and having little to no interest in temples, I thought it would be worth staying in some nice accommodation.
A nice big swimming pool where I can do some proper lengths, a fully equipped gym and the finest local food on the room service menu, these are the benefits of staying in a nice hotel and exactly what you want if you're planning on spending a lot of time in your accommodation.
I tried a local specialty food from the in room dining menu; Madurai Kari Dosa. I wasn't disappointed. Its thick layer of mutton kheema in the soft pancake textured dosa was incredibly satisfying and cured my late night hunger pains.
The room rate included breakfast and for once I was determined not to miss out. I've lost count of the number of free hotel breakfast buffets that I've squandered by sleeping in too late. This time I planned expertly and gave myself just enough time to fully enjoy the hotel breakfast before my driver arrived to take me on a road trip to Kerala.

Really!! This is the first time I am hearing that no Maximum Retail Price outside India.. That is not fair... In fact some vendors sell prices lesser than MRP because remember it is Maximum Retail Price and it can be bargained...

Actually it was a guest house of a British Fabric company called Coats Viyella which is Madura Coats in India. And this Business family which held shares took it on Long lease I guess or purchased. Another hoter the Taj GATEWAY Madurai which is on a small hill top in Madurai too belonged to the same company. Both were refurbished ....
I dont know why but many of my guests like their Massage and book in advance during their visit. May be the long drive we used to have from Tanjore or the flight journey from Chennai.
And their cuisine too is very authentic south Indian and really tasty.He missed to taste the Milk coffee which is one best he can ever have there .
One nice property and well maintained in Madurai.

Just so you know dosas served in Western countries are 99% of the time anything BUT DOSA. It's actually sad. And it's not just the West, even in North india authentic dosas are a rarity. So you must travel to tamil nadu if you want to eat a real dosa.
Still nothing has matched this resort in Madurai. Beautiful resort. And d rooms r wonderful.
I have stayed in this hotel in 2018 for 2 days. We were on a tour to Kanyakumari, Madurai and Rameshwaram. I really liked the place. You got peaceful vibes and atmosphere in the midst of the city itself. I especially enjoyed their swimming pool. At night when the lights are on. It looks beautifully majestic. ☺
Lovely place! Villa designed like a traditional house. The swimming pool is designed like a temple tank....with steps all around. Unique! Wd love to stay there!

Yes, that indeed was the vada (like what you described you had in Sri Lanka), the noodles kind of thing you had is called sevai is made using semolina and either lemon or coconut....

Dale, I like the smell of sandalwood there's a shop down the street that imports sandalwood soap from India so I have a little bit of an idea what it smells like there. Awesome video great place to stay thanks for sharing now you can go have a wee dip in the pool.

It's a great hotel stayed there couple of years ago. If I recollect, the hotel was designed by Geoffrey Bawa, a famous Sri Lankan architect.

There was a beautiful lake,we traveled using boats.
Man you must spend a fortune on bug repellent and sunblock. Like you, I really react to bug bites and try like hell to avoid them. around the 47 min mark there was a guy walking to his table behind you and was looking at you strangely as he must have thought you were talking to yourself lol. In 2014 i stayed there, it was a initially a shock and surprise for me. The location is so peaceful and every where you can witness heritage touch.
