I have been to many treks in south india and most of the times they see the situation and demand money. But here it's not actually the guide's fault, he gave the option if you want to trek for extra 20 kms then pay extra else upto him.
That guide is kinda annoying ....This trek is arranged by a govt agency and he's not suppose to ask extra money from the customers. the govt tourist agency genuinely helped you by not giving you any expensive packages but the guide ruined everything. you are actually exposing a scenario where the govt agency should know what exactly is happening during the trek session,!!!!he defnelty would have financial problems but i'm sure if he didn't behave like that, u wld have given a generous tip.

I don't think it was a scam they said 1200 for 4 to 5 hours considering the climb and rest period. But if you walk non stop you can do it in 2 hours so where is the scam. It was a very good deal. Normally they charge around 2500 for 4/5 hours. Dale is a miser at least he could have offered tea to the guide at the restaurant at the hill

He wanted a decent hike with a guide not a plesent stroll through some hills. There's no harm in the guide making an offer but constantly stopping for breaks and seemingly be reluctant to actually hike is not what he paid for regardless of the price. Also the 'i collect currency scam'

As a citizen of Kerala, I would say that even though the 2000 rupees trek was not just, the guide still said several times that that trek was only optional

Does anyone else think it would make a lot more sense for vendors to simply charge what they feel is a fair price, instead of charging a measly amount and then pressuring travelers to tack on unnecessary additional fees? So Dale basically paid about $15 for 4-5 hours of the guide's work. I'd rather be charged 10-15 more bucks and not feel scammed or pestered the entire time. In Sri Lanka, you don't need a guide to go on a such hike. Even locals will help you to find the right path. View is quite same as in Sri Lanka.

Everyone says he's a scammer. How exactly is he a scammer? This guy paid roughly 15 pounds for a 4 hours hike. The guide would maybe not even get half. Now think about that? Making an offer for extra services is not scamming. Don't be cheap.

He wanted a decent hike with a guide not a plesent stroll through some hills. There's no harm in the guide making an offer but constantly stopping for breaks and seemingly be reluctant to actually hike is not what he paid for regardless of the price.

Well...He is trying to sell his skill. I have seen old car sellers in USA. This guys is much better. INR 1500 Indian rupee is $20/- for 4 hrs. He will get half of that, and not a guaranteed business for every day. Did you pay for his Tea Dale. He offered your 2 banana. Man if you got injured during the way he will carry you to safety. You look everything based on money. Change your attitude dude. Every one is selling including you. He never cheated you. Very wrong attitude.

The trip would been much better without these Scammy guides who asks extra 2000 Rs for nothing. And people working at government aren't supposed to ask money as Dale already paid the agency the full amount.

Dale you were very generous to the guide for tipping him. When he said that he only received 300 for the hike, I honestly felt so sorry for him.
I think he was lying. What kind of agency takes 75% commission? Likely he got 900 or 1000 from the 1,250 I paid for the trek. He is deliberately trying to make me feel sorry for him. It's some all thee scammy guides do.

As a citizen of Kerala, I would say that even though the 2000 rupees trek was not just, the guide still said several times that that trek was only optional

To the people that getting angry coz he called that guide a scammer you have to remember this doesn't only happen to tourist like Dale who come from other countries it happens to we Indians too when we visit tourist places like the one he did they over charge ppl when the guide realise that we don't speak the local language, I had also visited the similar place like he did in this video few years back with my brother and his two friends and one person tried to charge 7000 for a hike when we only had to just follow all the ppl that were walking in front of us that were heading to see the water fall. So please stop with all this "Oh how can u call him a scammer and oh ur a Scottish person how can u call him that and all" nonsens
You are absolutely right. Local governments don't even care. In every tourist place in India these scammers are very common.
Does anyone else think it would make a lot more sense for vendors to simply charge what they feel is a fair price, instead of charging a measly amount and then pressuring travelers to tack on unnecessary additional fees? So Dale basically paid about $15 for 4-5 hours of the guide's work. I'd rather be charged 10-15 more bucks and not feel scammed or pestered the entire time. I know this is an older video but I just recently discovered the channel and I'm binging through everything lol

So sorry Dale for the trouble happened with the guide. There are lot of hidden spots in Munnar which many people might not know. We quite often visit Munnar and enjoy the climate. Also don't want to compare Munnar or Kerala with any other places because each location has its own unique beauty and It's up to you how you inhale it.
