Just found this series and it is awesome. I have the same bike I got for free. The motor ran great but sat outside for years. I completely ripped it down years ago and has been sitting in my shop for 10 yrs. Watching you guys, I have now unburied it and will start working on it soon.

I'm putting new parts on my 1984 zn700a. One of the first things I did was ditched the air box and went with pods. I would try a high temp sealant on the boots to get them sealed. No harm if your going to replace them mabey anyway. But I am going through the carbs making sure all the idle jets and main jets are clean. Had one cylinder not idling the idle jet was clogged. Getting these old parts of history up and running again is really rewarding.

It's fun to trouble shoot and fun to try to get the parts going for sure. They were made so well for the time really. Thanks for watching.

Yeah, old rubber tends to fail. I like the effort to try and save them, but sometimes you just gotta throw parts at a bike xD

Yeah I think that’s it. We’ve reused lots of stuff. But it looks like these are a no go.

I've had good results with wintergreen too but as you know with your CB750 Steve, the design for the carb-Engine boot is different (no integrated flange/gasket) I wonder if it could be solved with a backup gasket of some sort? I know you have others on the way, I just mention this because maybe for some ordering them might not be an option, thoughts?
great update 👍 looking forward to the next one!

Great point Russ. We had a look online and saw the new ones have a raised flange just like you said. It’s completely compressed on ours. I think you’re right, perhaps gluing in a piece of gasket would do it too. You would need to glue it I think. Just in case it goes into the engine. The new ones are on route. Hopefully we’ll get them soon.

I've taken boots and soaked them in hot (not boiling water) for 15-20 minutes and it makes them very pliable. Most of my bikes the carb boots haven't been an issue, but on my recent cb550sc they are the worst design I've ever seen. Impossibly difficult to work on. And no spares, so I have to be very careful.
Heat gun, wd-40, and your own tears is what I recommend. Sucks you're still getting leaks

Thanks for reaching out. Dan and I were disappointed for sure, but we’ll get it sorted. We forgot to try tears and WD40, we had enough of it 😂 thanks for watching 👍
