Cafe Chronicles
Canada
Приєднався 5 кві 2020
Cafe Chronicles is a video series documenting the journey from having zero knowledge or history in building or restoring vintage motorcycles. In the video series, we buy an old barn find CB750 and take it apart. We rebuild the engine, make modifications to the frame including installing a frame hoop and custom cafe/brat style seat.
The video series is an attempt to show that anyone who wants to try to build their own cafe racer or brat-style vintage motorcycle can do it. All it takes is some patience, some learning, and a lot of hard work.
During the oncoming episodes, we learn to rebuild cafe racers and restore these bikes back to their original glory. We also make sure the engine runs well and ensure the bike is safe to ride!
Building motorcycles, riding, and touring on them is what this channel is all about. I hope you enjoy.

Hey !! have you considered taking the original seat pan and if so why not ? We are building a KZ750 E 1982 Thanks for all your video
hi, what did you connect the clutch switch to?
Very, very late to comment 😂 that washer has a tab on it, it’s a wear indicator, when it lines up with the triangle in the rear casing it’s time to replace your brake shoes
Haha thanks. Your comment may be right on time from a maintenance prospective lol. Thanks for watching
I am halfway through this kz750 build and everything is super helpful as i got mine on the way cheers !
Glad it helped
Great stuff 😎👍
Thanks 👍
Thanks for your video, it will be nice if you go a little bit slower, I have to pause a lot the video until I realize that I can slow down the speed, but even like that I have to pause a few times, I did like the second fork assembly how it stared, saddling the rest it was out of screen, thank again
Thanks for the tip! Good luck with your forks.
Good luck! I have kz650 and two years fight with him to eork🎉
I agree, I'm going through and upgrading at the moment. Steve
Looks great 👍
Thanks 👍
What size heim joints did you use
Class 10.9 High-Strength Steel Threaded Rod, M6 x 1 mm Thread Size, 1 M Long to suit the rods.
Hello. Awesome build! Could you share what parts you use ? Throttle cables, clutch, master cylinder brakes, buttons ? Thank you.
Hey thanks. We keep a running cost and list of parts here, we usually link them in the description of every video docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1nRwfN2Lh4bUoio8F1LOM7gTU23-aNgKJLuIHPFIfz8Y/edit?pli=1&gid=0#gid=0
Thank you!
You could've use one negative to all buttons and also one positive for all led lighting. 5 wires would work great for this installation 👍🏻
Yes, you are right. I found this out a little too late to be honest. At the moment I'm putting on a new speedo/tach and will redo the grounds at the same time. Thanks for watching. Steve
How much oil did you put in each my zn700a says 8 oz each fork.
We checked the service manual, to be honest I don't remember. Let me know if you have trouble finding it. Steve
I'm putting new parts on my 1984 zn700a. One of the first things I did was ditched the air box and went with pods. I would try a high temp sealant on the boots to get them sealed. No harm if your going to replace them mabey anyway. But I am going through the carbs making sure all the idle jets and main jets are clean. Had one cylinder not idling the idle jet was clogged. Getting these old parts of history up and running again is really rewarding.
It's fun to trouble shoot and fun to try to get the parts going for sure. They were made so well for the time really. Thanks for watching.
Sounds incredible😍, I want buy it for my 1983 Suzuki gsx 750 es, it's nearly the same Motor
Thanks, this is the 2nd Delkevic 4into1 I've used, and I have to say they sound glorious. Thanks for watching. Steve
Thank you for the video. From what I've learned so far, the bikes really only need the two rubber stoppers installed for the factory panniers to attach to the bike, the bike is totally configured to accept the factory side panniers, would that be correct as far as Z1000SX, H2, Versys, etc ? The reason. I ask is I'm looking at many used Z1000 touring, they have no panniers but I'll most definitely need to install them... Thank You !!!!!
Yeah I believe you're right. The ninja 1000SX (ABS), 650 and Versys use the same panniers.
Here for this. I have acquired a '78 KZ750, completely disassembled and in a cardboard box. My journey begins. New sub. Salute Braddas
Awesome!! Keep us in the loop! And just shout if you need anything. Steve
If you get the aluminum polishing kit from Caswell you can skip half the sanding tbh. I don’t sand any finer than 600 before I start polishing. They provide you with 6 different wheels, 2 clay bars of different grits, and a finishing compound. It’s like $50 and my whole cb750 motor looks like a mirror
We deserve to know what happened to this build, haven’t seen anything in so long !
You're right! We owe you an update! And we have one, we're filming at the moment. I got sidetracked with building a house, but I'm just about ready to get back into bikes. Thanks for watching!
I am shopping for exhaust and rear shocks for my ZRX1100. I noticed your replacement RFY Zaddox rear shocks. Like them? Or wish you had something else?
They are fine, nothing special, but for the price, you can't beat it.
What happened, lovers tiff?
Lol no drama unfortunately, I've been busy building a house. But I'm finished and we're starting to film again. We hope to have some more videos coming soon. Thanks for watching. Steve
what brake levers are you using?
I wouldn't recommend you use what I have. I cheated out and will be upgrading them soon. Steve
Can't believe I found this clip. I'm currently rebuilding my late grandfather's 86 Kawa GT750. A lot of parts I recognise getting blasted. I'm at this very stage at the moment. Frame and other bits to be blasted before painting!
Good luck! Thanks for watching
Those type of guages are difficult to read with the needles dancing about all over the place. I use an electronic set which are infinitely better and far more accurate.
The music too loud it’s gotta go
inspirational, i wanna try now ! but what foam IS that? type/density ? theres so many, i dont want to get something that flattens out in a week. thanks guys

I was watching videos to plan my actions, and the template thing was the best idea, I'll give it a crack. Thanks.
Let us know how it goes. Steve
May I ask what is the size of the hoop you have?

Great vid. Just a quick question. Is that all that I will need (panniers, lock and those rubber pieces) to add panniers into a new SX? I am planning to buy one without the panniers, and hoping to add the panniers later, if this is all it takes? Thanks.
I just asked exactly the same question but timed out and happened upon yours. OP most likely has notification turned off. I know I do and often miss questions for a year. To answer your/ our question, it certainly appears as though many Z touring bikes etc are practically set up from factory to accept the factory cases. I'm just guessing because I haven't gotten a definitive answer. It seems as tho it would be easy enough to get a solid answer 😆 but I guess not...
@BDX2BDX2 LOL, thanks! By the way, did end up buying the 2021 SX, love the bike. Also bought the panniers set, panel, trip, fitting kit and One Key System. That's all it takes. Planning to install it and make videos of the installation as well. Seems pretty straightforward.
Hey guys, so sorry, I've been awful at keeping up to date on these comments. I'm glad it worked out, you obviously have your answer by now. I hope you're loving the bike, I still have mine and love it. Steve
I am from Serbia, please let me know where u found wintergreen oil because i cant find it anywhere. Thank you

Doesn’t start it up
What tool were you using to shape the foam. Looked like a grinder with a grinding wheel.
Yes, that's it
I'm curious about the seat latching design
Best damn parts list ive ever came across. I'm so happy I found your videos!
Thanks for watching. Some updates coming soon. Steve
I know this is an older video, but this has been super helpful! Looking to do this on my 78 CB750! Just one question, what year is this bike? Thank you!
Sorry for the late reply, it's a 78.
Hilarious that all bobbers while trying to be original look exactly the same 😂🤣
How is the appliance epoxy holding up on the frame now?
Its solid! I can't believe it's done so well to be honest. I powder coated my last build and it didn't hold up as well.
@@cafechronicles I tried it on my build and its been amazing. I noticed the gloss fades a slight bit since then but thats to be expected ua-cam.com/video/uycIfjTyo_I/v-deo.html
I got a bit of a surprise with the Irish accent! Looking for a z650 here in Mayo but there’s not much available. Keep up the good work.
Haha brilliant! Hey thanks for reaching out and for watching. Steve
Nice job guys!
There was allot of effort and time .....thank you for posting.
What Jets did you guys use to accommodate the leaner fuel mixture?
This exhaust actually keeps the same jetting.
@@cafechronicles thank you for the response. Awesome build btw!
Hi were can I find the throttle you are using on your project please ???
Sorry for the late reply, I got it from Dime City
Awesome video!
great story abot safet thanks for sharing
Why would you build a kz 750? Get a 70's z900
Where have you guys been? You’ve haven’t posted anything since the fall. Hope all is well, would love to hear/see something from you guys soon!
Sorry for the radio silence. I’ve been crazy busy building a house. But we are starting to film again and have some great updates for you. Thanks for watching. Steve
thnx for the vid. cheers and ride safe!
How did you know what wore was ground and what did the button function for the non light post?
There are tiny symbols on the tabs. Let me know if you need any help. Sorry for the late reply. Steve
Great video! Little question, how did you make the connection for the ignition and the starter? Do you have a diagram or other?
Thanks for watching. I do have diagrams I can share, I'm guessing it's too late at this point. Sorry for the late reply. Let me know if you need any help. Steve
Can u tell me how you wired the reg / rect. - i understand 3 yellow to yellow - white to white - red to power - and whats after that?
I have some diagrams if you need them. Sorry for the late response. Steve
Hey, has anybody tried using small blade receptacles to connect the buttons? I am not that good at soldering unfortunately.
Send me a link of what you mean. Thanks, Steve
