  • We take the brand new Kawasaki ZX-4RR out for an on track first ride review. After trying this bike on the street earlier, we tried it again but this time out at the The Ridge Motorsports park for a trackday test. We also review the ECU reflash from ‪@2wheeldynoworks‬ and slip on exhaust from ‪@GravesMotorsports‬ . How do they change the way this bike performs? Watch and find out!

    Crazy how in the land of the free, this bike comes with restrictions on it. I'm looking to buy this bike in Japan where I'm currently living and as far as I know, it will be available without restrictions when it comes on sale in Autumn.

      Here in Australia it’s going to be released with no restrictions. The stupid thing is that it would actually be worthwhile to release it as a restricted bike here as then it would have a wider range of potential buyers.
      In restricted form it would comply with our Learner Approved Motorcycle Scheme, thus it could be bought by people on restricted licences as well as open licences. Seeing as it’s only going to be released in unrestricted form it’s only going to sell to open licence holders.

    Would love to hear thoughts on the components.
    Stiffer, got it, but are they adjustable comp/rev/preload? Any idea on the spring rate?
    Adjustability for the rear shock.
    Thoughts on the electronics package (TC, wheelie control, power modes, etc)?
    Thoughts on abs? Personally I hate abs for the track, but that’s also because my track bike had abs that interfered far too early with no adjustability so I removed it.
    Weight? I realize stock it’s over 400 pounds which is kind of a let down for a small bike, but you can have a 400+ pound bike still feel light with good balance. The 2009ish cbr600 comes to mind.
    Thoughts on any components that are probably going to need replacement right away? Are the rear sets too low for track? Are the bars or levers uncomfortable for track? Is the braking system good enough on track?
    For context, I street and sometimes track my gsxr750, and track only very regularly my built R3. I’m not one to look for just power, I much prefer a smaller lighter bike on track.

    • @TysonMoto
      @TysonMoto  Рік тому +1

      The front suspension has preload adjustment and it was adjusted to nearly maxed out. The quickshifter works very well, but haven’t tried out the other electronics (tc,abs).
      The bike felt light and nimble, perhaps a lot due to the 160 rear. I thought the stock clip ons were really nice and not needing replacement. The pegs do scrape at apex occasionally and I would probably get some woodcraft/vortex replacements.
      Braking felt great compared to the 400. It would be easy to swap out for a better master cylinder. Maybe a radial Brembo.
      Overall it didn’t really need much besides rearsets (after pipe and reflash).

    • @revelationrider6913
      @revelationrider6913 Рік тому +1

      ECU= Electronic Control Unit
      It’s the computer that controls the bike (like fueling, RPM, sub throttle plate, etc.) and a ECU flash changes perimeters for the engine and and fueling and whatnot. You’re essentially just taking out EPA regulations on the bike and engine to get what the engine was supposed to be before EPA regulation requirements, and I’m pretty sure it voids warranty but I could be wrong for the ZX-4RR, and riding you bike on the track will make you more comfortable on you bike (ie understanding the limits instead of always guessing where they are at) so yes it makes you a better rider in the sense of understanding your bike but also you won’t be riding on public road like you’re on a race track
      I hope this helps!

    • @TysonMoto
      @TysonMoto  Рік тому +1

      Well the ZX-4RR is designed by Kawasaki to rev to 16k RPM and produce 80 horsepower. In the US and Canadian markets the ZX-4RR is restricted to 11.5K RPM and about 50 horsepower due to noise emission laws. When you reflash this ECU, you bypass the 11.5K limiter and return the bike to its intended RPM limit and Horsepower levels. There is a great video from 2 Wheel Dyno Works about their reflash for this bike, I'll link it below. You can simply remove your ECU and mail it to them to reflash and they mail it back. Does this void the warranty? Perhaps, however I would not be concerned about harming the engine as it was originally designed for this.

      @@UltimateEnd0 I drive a truck for a living. I go to plenty of powersports dealers across the country when between loads. Every dealer I've talked to about the ZX4RR have more or less all said "oh yeah we ordered a few in the beginning of the year, they're already sold, should be coming in soon". I've also hear about production being ramped up. Kawasaki seemed really timid with the release of this bike in terms of production. Can't fault them; the bike is a bold move into strange, wonderful territory.
      Kawasaki has sold every last 4RR. I think it will be a slam success, but will be more of a niche bike for seasoned riders more so than newbies due to MSRP.

      They won't, sadly. This is based on the ZX25 chassis, and they still had to put it on a full steel frame to justify the cost at 400cc. the 600's will get this new gen tech upgrade soon and likely kill the zx4 in my opinion. I was just talked to the dealer the other day (in canada) and they said the 4rr will likely be out the door around $13,500 (10k USD). the 25r gets the same stuff but half the power, it just won't sell in a market without CC restrictions. could always import one of the old motors from the 90's and swap it in, lol.

    I loved the idea of this bike so much but I think it’s priced unrealistically in the US market. To be only $1000 less than the 636 makes it difficult for a buyer to choose this over the larger displacement ninja. I also think it’s completely unfair to compare this to the ninja 400 because it’s almost twice as expensive, and not meant to do the same things. The ninja 400 is a beginner bike, where this is a beginner race bike. Obviously this is just my opinion, but I think if this was priced more like $7500, it would be in a sweet spot below the 636.

    • @Julietmateus
      @Julietmateus Рік тому

      They can't price it that low because the suspension and a few other key features are actually significant improvements over the ZX-6R, in line with the ZX-10R package. The real question for this bike is how well can it be chopped up. It's going through 3 catalytic converters making that horsepower, and the engine is likely very overbuilt judging by the weight of the bike. It's possible that we could see some truly insane street-illegal builds on this platform.

    Everyone knows, or should know that Ninja 400 has absolutely nothing on a ZX4RR. 400 is a novice bike, nice street ride, friendly, etc. zx4rr is a small engine track bike with somehwat street friendly ergonomics. Sounds unmistakably Kawasaki, just wish it was more than just 20 pounds lighter than the zx6r. Anyways, hopefully I get my hands on one for myself too!
