No matter what tire you run there is no such thing as set and forget it. There is no such thing as "ideal cold tire pressures". Every time you go on the track the temperature conditions are changing. "Recommended" pressures are nothing but a starting point and the rider must adjust to hot pressures as their final psi. You need to take before and after session pressures so you can track what psi the tire actually likes. You watched the cold tearing in the third session but do not appear to adjust your pressures. Why? You should have dropped 1/2-1 psi until the cold tearing stopped. Then record your HOT pressures. That is your target for the next track day. "Recommend pressures" are only meant to get you in the ballpark. It's up to you to dial it in from there.

These bikes have COMPLETELY taken over my local track day org and for good reason! They're so awesome as a platform to learn on. You can really stunt your growth as a rider by getting the fastest, most raw bike that money can buy. Everyone shoots for a liter bike. But if you want to get good in a hurry... look no further than the 600 class, even a RC390 from KTM. You can buy laptime, thats easy. But you cannot buy rider skill. And to develop that, you have to get a bike you can learn on fast.

I am no pro … but in my opinion, it looks like the surface of the tire gets hot, but the carcass is not up to temperature… it looks just like cold tearing I’ve seen on Ray tires that weren’t on the warmers long enough….. I bet if you had warmers it could preheat the whole tire they would wear more evenly….. you gave a very informed report I’m gonna let my buddy know about this …..

Ninja 400, RC390 and Yamaha R3 make great track bikes and if you upgrade the suspension and controls, they make amazing track bikes. Hitting wot quickly and the lower risk of high siding really frees up a lot of brain space, which allows you to work on everything else.
