  • This video covers the Pico Neo 3 Link, and some of the benefits and draw backs. It considers whether it is still worth considering now that the Pico 4 has been anounced/released, and who knows which will be best for PCVR?
    This is my first UA-cam video, please forgive the sound levels, and general editing/script/length. I have learned alot in this process and will ensure I improve for my next video (if there is one). Thanks
    Main components of my PC for comparison (used for PCVR):
    Intel 10600k processor
    MSI GeForce RTX 3080 Gaming X Trio Graphics Card.

    Think you've sold me on this headset. I will be 95% of the time using it for SIM racing so this definitely sounds like the headset for me. Running it alongside an RTX3090 I hope I can tweak it to get some good frame rates.

    Guys. The Pico Neo 3 Link is £171 on Amazon UK. This is a steal at this price considering that on DP mode it destroys the Quest 3.

      If the USB port supports Display Port 1.4 Alt mode then it should work. If you aren't already on it, it could be worth going on to the PICO Discord channel and we can try and help more on there 👍 discord.gg/picoxr-community-978568111693385738

    I've tried my son's Pico 4 with Project cars, as it is the only VR supported sim racer I own, and I really enjoyed it. I was using the link cable. Now I'm wondering if it might be worth me buying the Neo 3 Link instead, as I'll be 70% Steam VR based? I dont have a high spec PC though, it really needs updating, so am using a GTX 1060Ti. With my hardware, would I even notice a difference using the display port over a USB 3 link cable? Thanks for your unbiased reviews anyway, keep up the good work :)

      Thank you for your comment, that means a lot. I would recommend getting the Virtual Desktop app for the PICO 4 first and trying that before deciding on the headset. The PICO link software for the PICO 4 is known to be poor quality. Virtual Desktop gives you more options for graphical quality and other settings,and would be a better experience for the PICO 4. If you then decided to go for the Neo 3 Link, you should see a slight improvement with smoothness and image quality with the Neo 3 Link, but I recently decided for me the PICO 4 offers other things the Neo 3 Link doesn't (such as its lightness, and smaller design). Whatever you do, hope you enjoy it 😄

    As a quest 2 owner, I wonder if there is such a big difference in visual quality, between the pico 3 link and the pico 4 in pcvr to justify purchasing a different headset. Or I'll just wait a little longer and maybe another "pcvr (displayport)-standalone" headset will pop-up on the market.

    • @DayDreamerVR
      @DayDreamerVR  Рік тому +1

      From what I've heard so far, the pico link just beats the pico 4 visually when using the display port, but both are the pico 4 and pico neo 3 link have significantly better visuals when compared to the quest 2. I'm hoping another link device comes out at some point, but at this stage I think it's unlikely

    I actually ordered this over the Pico 4 simply because of the DP connection.
    Having a native image without compression is a bliss.

    • @DayDreamerVR
      @DayDreamerVR  Рік тому +2

      I got the Pico 4, in the hope that the image wouldn't be too far behind the Pico Neo 3 Link with display port cable and I could live with it. When I tried it, it is so far behind it has made me stick with the Pico Neo 3 Link, great headset for the price 👍

      @@DayDreamerVR Incredible! I wish they would have offered a Pico 4 with DP and 3.5mm headphone jack. That literally would have been the perfect headset for me, and I would've easily paid 100-150$ more for that.
      I always felt that a native image just feels so much more "real". I always try to compare it this way. Native DP image feels like you're actually in this world, as if the screen is just a window to the world you see. But wireless VR is more like watching a stream or a YT video of yourself playing it, if that makes sense?
      So yea. Much a let down that they didn't take this opportunity to stratify both mainstream and PC VR enthusiasts. :/

      @@CaptainPanick Hi, yes I have, for most games you will see very little compression with the PICO 4, it will mainly only be visible for fast paced games and sim racing. I think wireless PCVR (not sim racing though) is where the PICO 4 makes the most sense and performs best 👍

      @@DayDreamerVR Thanks! In the mean time I've watched some of your other videos which also answered my question (thanks for that, they are very informative!). I also enjoy SIM racing and especially Project Cars 2 in VR, but then I also play games like gzdoomvr which is very fast paced and will probably also have quite heavy compression artefacts. I use the HP G2 as my daily driver, mainly for racing sims. The performance of my PC is not enough to run the HP natively. I5 13600k + RTX3080. So I have the choice to buy a 4090 for a lot of money or a headset with lower pixel count. Now I bought a used Pico3 for 300€ and hope to be happy with it.

      The Pico3 has not disappointed me, as long as I do not have a better graphics card is the best solution.
      With the Pico3 I can now use the native resolution with high/ultra settings. (Pc2)
      Steam Vr @150%.

      Neo 3 link is slightly heavier as it has the battery, the G2 is potentially slightly more comfortable due to that. Picture quality is very similar. Wireless PCVR is a huge plus for the Neo 3 Link.

    Which IPD setting do you use with the Neo 3 Link? With my own 68mm, i've been advised to stay away from PN3L, because the outer IPD settings don't work properly over DisplayPort. What's your experience?

      I'm about 64mm,so use the middle setting. With 68mm you are very close to the top setting at 69mm. I haven't therefore had any issues. Although I have heard some people have had slight down sides with the outer limits of IPD, it generally seems that people would still prefer a Pico Neo 3 Link due to the other benefits of the cable, and the price.
