    I once had an interesting experience that has had an important impact on my own language learning. It happened when I was living in Scotland as an assistant teacher and used to return home with a teacher after a tiring school day. I noticed that I was exhausted and the words didn't come out right. I felt stiff and and the same time stressed. So I commented that to the teacher whose answer was that he admired us, assistant teachers, for the effort and that most Brits didn't speak any other languages. It helped me to relax and be more generous to myself. And , amazingly, by calming down, I got the feeling that the words CAME flying to me instead of being me searching for them. I learned to slow down a bit and be more confident with my English. Before I was sort of fighting with myself and surroundings in order to improve.

    They make us so comfortable and encouraging while taking speaking test. At the beginning i was little nervous then it felt like we are just talking and not a speaking test going on.😊 She asked me about children a lot like how to encourage them and what should we do to encourage them then about television and science, it felt so good as she made me comfortable and good rapport while speaking as she also smiled with my answers.

    your friends = acquaintances are not the same thing. Acquaintance is someone you know of little familiarity, perhaps someone you have had coffee at work with.
    So no, not friends. A colleague is someone you do just work with.

    I hate that i should pretend excited while i'm not. I'm very calm person and necessity of faking emotions is killing me. Afterall it's just an english test, not a interwiew for thetral academy. I'm also sort of shy person, i dont like eye contact. Should i drink some alco before the test to incourage myself? Damn, i don't drink at all, i don't like it. This all is too stressfull and unfair for people like me.

      I think you are probably overreacting. I think if you are faking your emotions it will be not good for you. But being robot as far as I know will not help you. So just try to have a good conversation instead of passing exam. Good luck.

    You can say 'er' and 'hmm' as theyre natural fillers.

    • @LauraGomez-wr8ir
      @LauraGomez-wr8ir 5 років тому +3

      Yes, but they are not gonna help you get a good Mark. Of course, once in a while you can do it, cause it's natural. But it is better to use some phrases filler. For example if you are asked something you don't know how to answer, instead of keep in silence or say mmm ehh, you can say things as "that's an interesting question" "I have never thought about this before, but if you ask me I would say...." in that way you are showing a better language management while you give yourself, some seconds to clear your mind.

    Whilst you're not marked directly on being 'excited' or 'confident', practicing speaking enthusiatically will have an effect on your mood (this has been psychologically proven!). When you're in a good mood you will feel more relaxed. These things will affect your intonation, the quality of your answer, how quickly you speak and how easy it is for you to generate ideas.

    Maam Emma You are the most honest person, Even you says its okey to lie on ielts as long as you speak. I guess the most scarry on taking orals exams is the sound of your own voice makes you more scared. You can hear your heart pounding. I always let them I am a little nervous. The best part when they says don't worry it will be easy. I felt better.

    I have been doing the official IELTS Cambridge practice tests for weeks now and I consistently score more than 8 for all the other parts (Listening, Reading, Writing). I am a Doctor, I graduated with a first-class and completed my internship training just last month.. I really need to get through this IELTS exam which is to be held in the first week of November in Colombo. I was planning to do the PLABs in March. As you already may know, I need a minimum band score of 7.0 for each section with an average of 7.5overall. The exam center accepted my request for extra time and told me to bring my medical certificate and copies of the emails which I sent them regarding the special arrangements for my stammer. It is so unfair, unreasonable and unethical if the down score me based on the fact that I stammer. It is not something that I can control and It is a disability from which I have been suffering since childhood. I would really appreciate it if you could share with me any experiences you had with students that stammer, how did they fare at the speaking part of the exam?
