- I tried to study English or I tried studying English? What is the difference in meaning? This is something that is asked a lot on tests! In this grammar lesson, I look at the verb "try", and will teach you when it should be followed by a gerund or an infinitive. The meaning of "I tried to watch the movie." is not the same as "I tried watching the movie." Watch this lesson and find out why.

I am a Taiwanese English teacher.
(我是一個台灣的英文老師)
The reason why my English is so good in comparsion with most of my fellow Taiwanese is that I have been constantly learning and practicing English.
(我英文能力之所以比其他台灣大多數同胞來得強是因為我不間斷地學習與練習英文)
Hopefully the average Emglish ability level for Taiwanese can improve a lot in the very near future.
(希望台灣的平均英語實力能在不久的將來大大地進步)
I have finished watching this video completely.
(我已經完整地看完了這個影片)
This video is awesome!!!!
(這個影片棒呆了!!!)
It is bloody useful!!
(真是夭壽實用!!!)
Big thanks to the teacher and all the fellow students around the world.
(大大地感謝老師與所有其他國籍的學生)
You are the best English teacher I have ever seen in my life 💖💖💖
Hello!
I'm a english student from Mexico, your videos helped me too much.
Thank you for every lesson you teach us.
Saludos :)
Hello Alan, lo siguiente es una corrección constructiva. Una vez, una profa de Inglés nos contó que sus estudiantes le dijeron: "I love you too much". Ella comentó que entiende lo que tratamos de decir pero lo mejor sería: " I love you so much." Ya que el "too" en este caso suena como si amaremos a alguien más de lo que deseamos pero de forma negativa. Saludos
I wish you were my teacher of grammar
I wish she was my Mom :D I wouldn't be learning english then.
+I'm Nobody 😄 funny

Emma is really talented teacher. Any topic becomes easier when I watch her video explanation!
This video is really clear and make sense when applied to examples. I was curious how was I taught by English teacher when I was in middle school, and searched the Chinese Website in order to see how they explain the difference; the results turned out inadequate and kinda misleading! I feel happy to watch this and will be able to explain to my students next time!
I teach ESL at a college, and I am quite impressed with how you handled this...
Emma, your expression is extremely easy to understand. I'm honor to welcome you if you come and visit Vietnam!
I so love Emma! She's been inspiring me all these years. I crushed on her many years ago.
we all love u, English Teacher Emma....
i wish we could all build some kind of huge monument or token of how much we love seeing your shows. and put it somewhere in the world so that you could see it later and know that we really love these shows.
you're rad.
Thank you so much. In fact, before I watched this video, it was difficult for me to understand the differences between try (infinitive) and try (gerunds). I would like to thank you again about your teaching this subject that is very easy to understand.
Hello. Thank you for this lesson. I've been trying to understand it since my first lesson of English. and now you've made it clear. Thank you :)

Clear explanation, but you said... I tried to eat healthy! eat + adjective?! ... surely you need an adverb after eat in the example you used! Try using this: I tried to eat healthily... fixed it for you, you're welcome! x

I really love the way that you teach us. Thank you Emma

Thank you that I have been learning a lot about English from you. You're my online teacher 😂.
Thanks Emma! You're a perfect teacher!
I really liked this video because I think that you explained very well the difference between the two grammar structures that can be used with the verb try. Actually I knew how to pick one instead of the other just by using common sense, so it's good to be aware of the diference and not to mix them up. Thank you very much for this video.

انا من مصر وشكرا جدا ليكي...... Thank you so much, you are a very good person and teacher
That's a nice video and thank you for it but you've only given past simple examples of 'try + infinitive'. That makes it easier to comprehend but I'd need more varied examples to fully grasp it.
Emma's videos are the best lessons I have ever watched! :)
Excelent explanation, with your help it's probably I stop making so many mistakes
I tried my best to not falling in love with her smile but it was complicated. Thanks for this lesson!! :)
I tried my best NOT TO FALL in love with...
I tried not to cringe when I read your comment. I don't understand why there are always creepy guys in every single video from English teachers. What about commenting about how an amazing teacher she is? I'm sure she'd prefer you appreciate her teaching skills rather than her looks.
Thought they are the same but now realized the difference. Thank you.
You make the english, look very easy, God bless you.
Thank you Teacher Emma, your lessons and tips are really useful :)
Appreciate your explanation very much and it is much more easier now to understand the difference between "try to" and "try verb+ing". T.Y
Hello Mrs Emma
With respect to the exercise 3....
If my girl friend is angry, I don't try giving 😨; I try to give.... 😊
