    UPDATE: As many of you have pointed out the VERTIX 2 does NOT have ANT+ connectivity like the previous VERTIX 1, APEX, or APEX PRO. This is a detail I completely missed in my video. Truth be told this was an oversight on my part and the removal of ANT+ wasn't totally obvious in the review guide documentation but I should noticed! How does this effect you? If you're primarily a runner... Maybe not at all as most Heart Rate and Running Power sensors are Bluetooth connected. However, if you're a cyclist or triathlete and use older sensors with ANT+ connectivity this could weigh into your purchasing decision.
    I'll make sure to physically check this stuff next time 👍

    Thanks for another great review! Came here straight from the launch. Nice UI, hope they'd introduce it to the pace 2. One question , are you sure the vertix 2 supports ANT+ sensors? As I understand it's only Bluetooth.

    • @ChaseTheSummit
      @ChaseTheSummit  3 роки тому +2

      Yep, you're correct. I got a little confused on that topic and assumed that it would be the same as the original Vertix. ANT+ has been removed in the Vertix 2 likely to save space on the board for other features like Dual Feq GPS. ANT+ seems less and less common these days with newer sensors primarily being BLE. I bought a Coros Vertix 2. Most important features to me are battery life, durability, and GPS acccuracy. Coros excels over competition in all three categories. That "slate" color, btw, is called "Obsidian" lol. To go with "Lava". I wanted to mix & match, so I bought the Obsidian watch then and orange watch band (from that other watch company) to go on it. So I'll have a black watch with orange band and black buckle. Thanks for your review! I thought your assessment of the features was best of the various reviews I have looked at.

    I know this is not the central topic for the kind of watch, but at this price point I think it's legittimate to ask.....
    How about smartwatch functions... Like... How good are notifications, can you answer them from the watch, calendar integration, NFC for payments and stuff... I know i am describing my Fenix 6, in the end :D

    • @ChaseTheSummit

      It appears they are concentrating in expanding the sport and outdoors functions, hope they will consider the "others" as well in the future... And maybe look a bit more for their own way, there is just a little too much Garmin in this watch (which is not bad in principle, i love Garmin, but... If I have to get a copy of a Garmin down to the strap connection system... I might just get a Garmin!)

    Great review, thanks for going in-depth and hitting all the bells and whistles. I have the fenix 6 sapphire and also the vertix 1. Love them both but tend to lean toward the fenix as it just has more options overall. The vertix 2 changes things I will say that. Question, what exactly is "off line mapping" is this the same as what the fenix 6 has or are there some differences? Thanks and keep up the great content.

    • @ChaseTheSummit
      @ChaseTheSummit  3 роки тому +3

      Thanks! In terms of the mapping it is NOT the same as what the Fenix 6 Pro features. On the Fenix 6 Pro/Sapphire you can actually route to a destination example: input a resteraunt name, address, or mountain peak and the watch will calculate turn-by-turn directions to get to that destination. The map also features labels for roads, trails, waterways, etc...
      The VERTIX 2 offers breadcrumb navigation along with a contextual map layer background. Essentially this is an image behind your breadcrumb trail that shows roads, trails, waterways, etc... However the features are not labeled and the watch can't actually calculate a route based on the map. This is still quite useful but not quite on the same level as what Garmin is doing with their full mapping experience.
      Hope that helps!

    This puts Coros above Suunto by a mile! Almost at par with Garmin with some refinements which will likely come down the line. Interesting that they put out the hardware platform that can be upgraded with more software functionality down the line as a strategy. Just got a Fenix 6x and this made me think twice, although i think Garmin still has the upper hand on navigation but for software will catch up given how much hardware is packed into that thing.

      If battery life is the most important feature to you I'd look into a COROS. Depending on your budget, the Apex, and Apex pro are awesome. If you're mainly a runner the Pace 2 is hard to beat for $200 and all of their options will last in standby mode for over a month. Garmin still wins when it comes to smartwatch and wellness data but COROS is a great reliable tool for GPS activities and training.

    I’ve been watching your reviews for a day or two and just became a subscriber. I am looking to buy my first smart watch and really wanted offline mapping. I had decided on the Fenix 6 pro but after playing with one, I’m really not a fan of having to use buttons to navigate the map and zoom. The Only reason I’m not sold on the vertix 2 is the size as I have small wrists. I’m hoping the Vertix 1 offline mapping will be good enough when it comes out to bridge the gap between the smaller size I want in the Vertix 1 and the ease of using the mapping that the Vertix 2 has. Do you think the button navigation is a major drawback of the Fenix 6 or do think it’s just as easy as the nob and touch screen once you get used to it?

    • @ChaseTheSummit
      @ChaseTheSummit  3 роки тому +1

      The knob and touch screen on the Vertix 2 is way better than using the buttons of the Fenix. However, the Navigation features on the Fenix are WAY more advanced than what's available on the Vertix 2. Vertix 2 basically just has a contextual layer map so you can see roughly what's around you while the Fenix has full routeable maps with POI support and turn by turn nav. Hope that helps!

      Plenty of comparisons are coming! Stay tuned! Dual Frequency differs because it allows the GPS antenna to communicate with satellites on two different wavelengths effectively doubling the opportunity to get a GPS lock on a satellite. The Vertix also enables ALL of the satellite systems simultaneously instead of flip flopping between them or making the user choose which system to use. At the end of the day it's easier to use and more accurate.

    Note from an "aged" trailrunner view:
    1) what about the brightness? It's the major issue on my APex Pro
    2) the missing of ANT+ is a big drawback. I am not the only one using Stryd + Polar HR belt. And what about all ANT+ sensors?
    3) the mapping is welcomed but who is aged like me finds more useful to look at offline maps on the smartphone
    4) weight is too much
    I really hope that Apex Pro will be updated with the new chipset and dual freqs GNSS empowering the brightness

    • @ChaseTheSummit
      @ChaseTheSummit  3 роки тому

      The brightness isn't bad. It's not as bright as a Garmin Fenix 6 at 100%. Unfortunately there is no brightness adjustment but I haven't had issues with visibility. Yes, ANT+ is missing unfortunately but you'd still be able to use a Stryd pod and Polar HRM using the BLE connection. I think the mapping use case is different than digging out your cell phone to navigate. For instance as a trail runner it's great to be able to glance down at my wrist to make sure I'm on track and have the watch notify me if I deviate the course. The phone is more useful for hiking or orienteering where you may be navigating in the field. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching!

    • @ChaseTheSummit
      @ChaseTheSummit  3 роки тому +1

      I'm planning to have an entire video about Fenix 6 Pro vs Vertix 2 in the near future. In short the Fenix 6 Pro has a better implementation of music (spotify, amazon, iheartradio,etc... ). Better navigation/mapping with routeable maps and POI support. More smartwatch features like Garmin Pay NFC payments and is compatible with ANT+ sensors while the Vertix 2 is limited to BLE sensors. The Vertix 2 has far superior battery life, better build quality (if you're looking at the Fenix 6 Pro non-sapphire) and better GPS accuracy with dual frequency and all-systems-on GPS.
      I think there's a market for both and neither one is really "better" than the other. If you're someone looking for a no-frills GPS watch without too much fluff the VERTIX 2 is a compelling option. The Fenix 6 Pro offers more features for the money though. Hope that helps!

      Mine came pre-loaded with the USA base map but I think it may differ depending what part of the world you're in. It's easy to update the maps from COROS's website.
