    This is a great review, thanks! My Garmin Fenix 6 Pro ran out of battery literally as I pressed stop on my last hundred-miler (thankfully it saved it, because, y'know, if it's not on Strava...), but it made me realise I need a better battery, and the thought of spending so much on the Garmin Enduro 2 makes my eyes water. This review really helped, thanks!

      Yo-yo! Chris, wow, I absolutely love your Channel. Thanks for dropping by and leaving such a lovely comment ❤️ Ahh, the Fenix 6 pro was well beyond its time but I agree, it’s age is starting to show and that’s mainly through battery life. Very lucky your 100 miler saved, it’s definitely socially unacceptable to manually upload a distance like that 😉🙈 An absolute pleasure to help. Another watch to check out is the Suunto Vertical Solar. I found the transition from Garmin to Coros abit painful as I loved all of the data 🤓 With Suunto you keep some of that, you avoid having to use a scroll wheel (which tore my wrist apart haha) and also the vertical was a much more comfortable weight. Battery life is also comparable.. might even be better with the Solar version + good weather 👍🏽

    Between Fenix 7 solar and Vertix 2 and Apple Watch Ultra 1 which is best for everyday use. Just need something to track HR, oxygen, jogging, good looks. No notification required

    • @ActiveIdeas
      @ActiveIdeas  Рік тому +1

      Tbh if that’s all you need it for I would steer you towards the forerunner 965, Suunto Race and Coros Apex 2 Pro.. all cheaper, look smarter, comfortable and will do exactly what you need. The Apple Watch ultra has great HR/Oxygen tracking (arguably the best) but the battery life is terrible and don’t think it’s quite “ultra” enough yet.. maybe the ultra 3 will be there 👍🏽 No point having great HR tracking if the watch has to be on charge every day if that makes sense. Hope that helped🌟💫

      Massive thanks for dropping a comment mate!! Yeah, it’s a tough decision between the two.. I think if you’ve used Garmin, stick with Garmin and if you’ve used Coros, stick with Coros. .. if you’re new to both platforms a massive factor is the price.. the Enduro 2 is quite literally 3 times the price here in the UK on the re-sale market 🤯 They’re both extremely similar in terms of accuracy but the edge of heart rate probably goes to Garmin.. and in terms of GPS I’ve had more luck with Coros 👍🏽 Good luck with your adventures 🔥

    Given your recent encouraging statements about the Suunto Vertical, how do you feel the Vertix 2 compares to the Vertical? Was there a reason why you didn’t use the Vertical for the Spine Race? Very much interested in your updated thoughts on the Vertical in comparison to both other watches. I hope Suunto sent you the new Race as well. Thank you for all of your thoughts and videos!

    • @ActiveIdeas
      @ActiveIdeas  Рік тому +3

      Hey mate! Thanks so much for the comment 🙏🏽 Corr it’s a tough one, I feel like I’ve been to the wars with the Vertix 2 now after the spine race haha. It’s got a special place in my heart ❤️But, Unfortunately it’s just too uncomfortable to wear for me personally. So if it was me choosing for myself it would be more between the Coros Apex 2 Pro and the Suunto Vertical. It’s a very close one tbh and probably depends more on what phone app/platform you prefer.
      Yes there was a reason, great question! Basically I downloaded the wrong region of maps onto the watch. I drove to Peak District Edale (Spine Start), loaded up the course the night before and realised my route was blank (silly me haha). And unfortunately over patchy cellular or hotel WiFi downloading maps onto the Vertical just isn’t going to happen. Slightly user error but also shows the benefits of why maps should come pre installed (like Coros and Garmin) at the factory!
      If did a comparison like that, what would the top 5 things be that you’d like to see compared?
      Fingers crossed by next week there’ll be a Suunto Race here 😍 I won’t have much time to get a first impressions video out if I want to compete with the big channels but the full review will have to wait. The good news is that I have some crazy plans arranged for the next 2 weeks so it is going to be HEAVILY tested 😍
      Thanks again, more videos to come 🙏🏽🌟

      @ActiveIdeas  Рік тому

      Thanks for the comment mate!
      Haha, there’s definitely not enough meat on my wrists it seems 🤣 For the spine ultra I definitely wore it higher up, had a more comfortable fit but I think because of the 89g weight (and using poles) gravity/momentum just pull the watch down towards my hand and therefore wrist-bone… tbh I think this could be avoided with a nylon band, I usually pair the heavier watches with one to get a more dialled in fit 😝
      All the best bud 🌟

  • @robturner724
    @robturner724 4 місяці тому +1

    Well done on the spine. Insane. Do you mind me asking, did you have the map screen on all the time in the race? Reason i ask, just got my wife the suunto race, damn is so nice but I've sent it back. On maps the battery only lasted 16 hours not the ~40 advertised. So now I'm thinking risk the suunto vertical or play it safe and get this vertix 2s now...

    • @ActiveIdeas
      @ActiveIdeas  4 місяці тому +1

      Thanks for dropping in Rob! Appreciate the comment ❤️ Oh sorry to hear about the not so stellar battery life on the race, definitely a weakness of having a lovely screen! Unfortunately the Vertix 2S is miles off in terms of battery life compared to the Vertical Solar. The Vertical Solar with maps & navigation running performs unbelievably.. for the arc of attrition 100 miles I finished with 32%… this was with no charging for 2 days pre-race, then racing 33 hours with ‘BEST’ gps selected, Heart rate turned on, touch screen turned on & the maps screen left on 24-7. If you do want Coros is recommend getting the older Vertix 2 for better battery life 🌟 Hope that helps, if you have any specific questions about the comparisons let me know.. full video in Vertix vs Vertical soon 👊🏽

    Hi, great review. I am a F5 user and find myself on crossroad while trying to decide which watch to buy. There are 3 on the list (or basically 4 watches) which I am trying to chose from: Vertix 2 (or apex 2 pro), fenix 7x and vertical. Which one would you recommend when it comes to battery, gps accuracy, easy to use and how ‘smooth’ it works. Also price is quite significant.
    Before I finish, I saw some lagging on Vertical or some GPS accuracy problem on Coros watches (track comparisons in other reviews). Is this still a case? That digital crown on Coros - how easy is to move/push it while wearing a jacket?

    • @ActiveIdeas
      @ActiveIdeas  11 місяців тому +2

      Oh lawd, so many questions haha! That’s a great choice of watches to be choosing between!
      In terms of comfort I would say the Vertical and the Apex 2 pro are the best. For accuracy and reliability of gps connection it would be Suunto or Coros again. For highly in depth data and lots of numbers (if you’re a nerd like me) I’d recommend Garmin for HRV, training readiness, training load, hill score, endurance score etc. Also Garmin’s HR sensor works the best with accuracy and reliability. For battery I would say they’re all similar.. you won’t be worrying about battery life on any of them. Also, based in my own experience, I can’t recommend the Vertix 2 because of have heavy it was, although this could potentially be resolved by using an Amazon nylon strap.
      For smoothness the Garmin is going to take crown, it’s very smooth whether using the bottoms or touch screen. I wrote a Reddit blog post about the vertical during its release about the “lagging” and basically found it was sometimes even quicker than the Garmin (in duration) but it was Infact the animation of the vertical which made it look laggy. I’ve never had a GPS problem with the Coros and the Digital Crown I personally wasn’t a massive fan of, i frequently activated the crown during the spine race with my jacket so I turned on auto lock but then I had to keep unlocking the Coros which was cumbersome. Without a jacket it was mostly fine but would sometimes active during burpees and other circuit based activities (all of this on vertix 2 more so than Apex 2 Pro) 👍🏽
      Anyways.. hope they helped 🌟

      Corrr, I really do like the Coros. It just feels right when I’m out hiking/running with it. I can trust it. I also had to return my Enduro due to manufacturing problems which seems to be very common with the Garmins. If I was buying a watch between these two for a crazy ultra marathon or serious hiking and adventuring it would have to be Coros. Also, if you look on EBay you’ll probably find it as cheap as I did (6,670 MXN).
      However if I was training like an animal, wanting good smart watch features, health tracking and flashlight I would have to go Garmin Enduro 2 (I really do love that flashlight, especially when training in winter haha)
      Hope this helps 👊🏽

    In a way the Vertix 2 was a bomb for Coros. For only coming out with one size/model. It was way too big. Cutting their buying audience in half. I don’t know one female and have never seen pictures of a female wearing this. And there were a lot of guys that thought it was too big as well. Cutting the buying audience down even more. Then at the time it was released it was too expensive. I don’t know anyone who bought one. Being in the fitness/endurance sports/Multisport scene. It didn’t sell well at all. I’m curious if Coros ever recognized any of this. Hopefully they learned from this and go another direction with the so called Vertix 3.

    Hi bro! 2 weeks ago bought 255s, but feel that its not my watches... Thinking about Fenix 6pro, as you advised. Vertix good, but too big for my wrist. What about apex 2 ? XC ski, running, hiking, strength training. Or even suunto? What do you think? But i don't like that new coros doesn't have ANT+. I will definitely need maps for hiking because... recently I went astray many times, for me this became a very important aspect in choosing a choice. And one more Question about APPS. In Coros and Suunto i can do hiking course in APPs in 3D maps , right? For me, as an inexperienced tourist, visual ascents and descents are very important

      Hey mate! Thanks for the comment! 🔥 Sorry to hear that you didn’t get on with the 255s!
      Personally, I much preferred the Apex 2 pro compared to the Apex 2 because of the longer battery, bigger screen and duel frequency mode. Yeah, that’s a shame about ANT+
      The hiking map options on Suunto’s phone app are far superior to Garmin and Coros. The map detail on Coros and Suunto is slightly better than Garmin. (But with Garmin you’ll get street names and in watch course creation).
