Awesome :) Good luck out there! ps: and I don't remember if it was clear in this - but I highly suggest doing GPS only to squeeze the most juice out of the battery. It's plenty accurate for a 200 miler
I’ve got the Garmin Fenix 7 sapphire and have been looking at changing to the Coros Vertix 2S. This is the best review so far as it’s based on actual ultra racing. I’ll be buying the Coros as I’m the same, every 100 I’m charging right to the last minute to keep it at 100% race morning. Coros will remove that stress. Thanks.
@@runningwithsimon I have wondered about that but doing trail races, as I’m following a gpx track would using gps only and not all systems be accurate enough. As I’m sure you are aware it’s very easy to miss turns anyway. Have you had any experience on that ?
@@wanderer6688 That's what I typically do. Unless you are doing something that involves going off trail, I wouldn't worry at all about it. The imprecision you'll get is minimal anyway, and mostly relates to when you'd be in tight canyon (in which case, it won't be accurate regardless). The only time I switch all system on is if I go mountaineering - where you aren't following a trail, but really a route that is most of the time not visible by the landscape. And you NEED to go up the right gully (which can be 30 feet away from the next) otherwise you're in for some hardcore and dangerous scrambling. If it were me, I'd say try this first before buying a new one, and see if that meets your expectation. When trail running (on trail), what we typically need to know is "am I still on the right trail" and "should I turn left or right" and "how far to go". All of which you should be fine with GPS only (unless again, you're like deep in grand canyon and signal is bouncing around). And even if you happen to lose the trail, I've always found it to be accurate enough to know which way I should wander to find back the trail (plus at this level, you have to wonder how accurate the gpx you are using is anyway - no point having a watch precise to the mm if the GPX is off by 30-50 feet)
@@runningwithsimon Thanks so much, some great info there. My next race is in October so I’ll give the ‘gps only’ a go there first. Appreciate you taking the time to go through that.
Don’t go for the Coros. You have to buy a new one when some minor issues happen like a broken button after warranty time! They won’t repair it and no one else! I’m not willing to pay so much for a watch without proper technical support! As soon they offer repairs I buy Coros again! But till that-nope.
I have the Pace 3 as a recreational ultra runner and love it. The price is very reasonable and the battery life is long. Really no reason for anything else. Thank you for this review. I enjoy your content.
That's exactly why I want to test it too! I know it wouldn't become my 'main watch' but I suppose there's a line where there's really no point getting the pricier one. And I hear good thing about it. So I'd like to understand where the line is where it becomes meaningful to upgrade
Thanks for the review. I think you made it clear even an old model garmin is going to work great for most folks. I’m excited to move past the 50 mile to 100k mark in a couple months then on to 100’s. At that point I’ll be looking for a watch that will give me real peace of mind and I liked seeing how your coros held up. I’d love to see the others reviewed so when the time comes I make the right choice.
Exactly. Garmin Fenix 6 was fine by me. I never felt like I was missing out (unlike with the Fenix 5 - this one I needed to charge mid-race which was super annoying). I'm curious to try the Apex too, it might be closer to fenix so might be the right hit for most folks (including me for 99% of the time)
@@runningwithsimon Tbh, I think I have the wrong watch for my needs lmao. I bought the 7S Sapphire Solar because I wanted the solar option, granted it doesn't do much ... otherwise I'm like 98% sure I could have gotten away with the Coros Pace 3.
@@saikame5833 Exactly. Understanding one's need is tough because it can also change, but some times we don't need the big fancy pricier one. The "best watch" doesn't exist - it's more like "the best watch for someone". I've actually been testing and happy with the Coros Pace 3 for a little while now - mostly in training. It won't work for my race (I think it died after ~22hr and 78 miles at Angeles Crest...so still solid life but not quite enough). But in training, perfect. I wouldn't recommend having 2 watches, but I think it means it's great for someone mostly just training to stay healthy, not necessarily racing or trail running as much. I'm actually going to give it to my mom - perfect watch for her (and obviously, I only want what's the best for her)
I had the same experience with the Vertix 2s, coming from Polar and Garmin. Somehow Coros watches are a joy to use, something I cannot say about the others I have tried.
Thank you for sharing! The Coros smoked the Fenix, but if you could compare it to the Garmin Enduro II, that would be very interesting for me to see. Also as they are both newer and with insane battery life, that might be more of apples to apples comparison.
Yeah, it'd be interesting to compare those and that's why I really wanted to emphasize it's an old vs. newer watch. But I'm sure some people would claim it's unfair too. Because, is it really fair to compare enduro 2 at a retail price of about $1000 when the vertix 2S at retail ~700? Wouldn't a Fenix 7X be more fair? But not the solar, otherwise retails is higher. It seems a fair comparison would need to be watch at the same retail price but that limits the choice.
This is a great review of 2 good watches, that addresses the concerns most runners have regarding the user experience. Coros seems to have come a long way very quickly, and I will definitely be considering them strongly for my next watch. Thank you, Simon! Coros would be very lucky for you to work with them more - great product and a great runner!
Yeah I was mostly surprised and concerned with interface. I'm not a tech savy guy, and I think I'm slowly starting to understand why parents needed my help to program the VCR recorder. So switching was scary and I was worried it'd feel as awkward as me wearing my wife's clothing ... oh wait bad example... well anyhow, that it would just feel "wrong", But not really. The weirdest / funniest thing was that cocodona was I think only my second activity with the watch. So at the end, 4 days sleep deprived, I was like "huh...so...hmm... how do I 'stop'?"
Thanks for this review! and yes please for coros apex review :) I am only starting to do ultras - have always been a road runner/marathons and I never uses any watch before as I just use my phone. Thinking the Apex might be good for me to start with!
I’m rocking the Vertix 1 and it works flawlessly still. If it ever dies I’m definitely staying with Coros because I have had such a good experience with the original Vertix.
@@enjoiventure The battery life is still great. It still gets updates and I believe I’m supposed to get another update for it soon. I’ve had it since 2020 and haven’t had a single problem with it.
@@parkerliang Hi Parker. How is the heart accuracy on the 2s? I have the Pace 3 which uses the same sensor and it's pretty good, but when I look at reviews of Vertix 2s most of them say that the heart rate is not so good. It is probably, because of the size of the watch.
@@radoslavstoev4550 It depends how you strap it down to your wrist. I have it quite accurate as I have it strap it down with the nylon strap. Some people have smaller wrist which I have see it can be a problem with wearing a bigger watch. The battery life is more accurate than my Garmin before, when the Garmin was saying battery life of 30hrs during activity track, actually it was giving me 24hrs during my ultra marathon. I had to switch during my race to "UltraTrak Mode" to conserve battery life, but it missed out 10km of GPS tracking after the race.
Hi Simon, thanks for this (and all the others) video, which helped me to run my first 100 miles yesterday! I ran the South Downs 100 (UK). I do have a Garmin 6, and I love the app; in general, I was delighted with the performance of the watch, but unfortunately, despite the watch at the start of the race was fully charged and gave me 30 hours of life, it ran out at 26hours and 35 minutes, luckily I was 4 miles from the end, so no big problem but it wasn't enjoyable to run the last bit without it. So I guess for people who run 100 miles slow, within 30 hours, then Coros should be the answer. It will be a plus if you will be able to test and compare other models
Congrats!! I'm actually thinking of doing South Downs some day - do you recommend? That's really unfortunate about the watch - I never had it die on me in a race (my Fenix 5 did die after 20hr), but it's been very close sometimes. There's a few tweaks you can do to have your garmin last a tiny bit longer which can help, and which I often did. I turned off Wifi/Bluetooth on it. If I was worried, sometimes I'd turn off heart rate monitor (I use it in training to adjust pace, but not so much in race...I KNOW if I'm going too fast - but it's not ideal). I deactivate any vibration notifications, try to not use the light, etc. It's all not great or ideal, but sometimes can give that little bit more juice. Anyhow, I guess the most important is that YOUR battery lasted longer than your watch, congrats!!! ps: oh and switching to "GPS only" mode instead of using GPS + GLONASS or GALILEO. Helps for sure and it's still plenty accurate enough for what we do. The ultratrac mode was very bad any time I tried and would not recommend.
@@runningwithsimon I definitely recommended it! It is a well-organized, super-friendly atmosphere. At the start line, we were 430, and there was a diverse spectrum of runners, from first-timers to experienced athletes, but every runner was important, and the community was there to cheer everyone until the last minute. After I have seen your videos, You can run until the Finish line and perhaps do your PB in this kind of race.
I'm sure they will - probably vertix 3 at some point. That's just pure speculation, I don't have actual information from them, but that's the normal direction for all watch to release new models. Ultimately for me, I ask myself first "am I still happy with my current watch", and most of the time the answer is 'yes'
Thanks for your review. it made me decide the kind of watch that i will buy within my budget. Garmin for the same specs as coros vertix 2s costs almost 60% more here in India. I use Garmin Instint 2 and i found its battery life on GPS does not perform as stated in the specs. infact even in battery saving mode, it shows 65 days but works only for 30 days.
I'm not close to 100 miles, but would like to do a 50 mile ultra next year with GPS and heart rate on... Yes would love for you to test the other watches in Coros line!!!
Great watch, can I ask, did you have the map screen on all the time though? My experience of the Vertix 1 is that the map screen reduces battery life and it would be good to know by how much. I tend to just leave it on maps the whole race, I don;t want to faff around changing screens to see if I'm going left or right at an upcoming junction. The Vertix 1 is a great watch too, I went on a running holiday in Chamonix for two weeks with it... and I didn't even take my charging cable! Thats the confidence you get from a Coros. Having said that I think you should probably compare it to the latest fenix to give Garmin a chance next time.
No I didn't have the map screen on at all time - just when checking if I'm still on track and or to figure out a junction. And you're right, my understanding is that it drains battery. Not sure how much however, but there's going to be processing power to generate and display a map. Same thing with garmin obviously. I also turn off the auto-black-light thing. It's practical, but I know it will drain battery so I'd rather just click it when I need it.
@@runningwithsimon Not at all. I rarely replied to texts from my Apple watch and usually picked up my phone so the basic Coros notifications are good enough for me
Would love to compare newest to newest of course. I literally lose money with this channel, so I can't exactly go around buying new watches all the time...
The latest Garmins are better than the Vertix 2s. Even Coros admits it. However they are more expensive, especially if you pay for the sapphire/titanium models.
haha thanks, much appreciated actually! Some people are annoyed with them, but I just have fun! My hope is to here someday "came for the info, stayed for the cilps!"
I still prefer my Enduro 2, but Coros are getting very close. I very much like what they are doing with mountaineering/multi pitch climbs - specific profiles designed for this and fine tuning the GNSS algorithm for these scenarios. As opposed to generic climb profile on Garmins. Of course in this comparison Vertix 2S wins as expected, 6 is watch with older technology, not as efficient, lacks multiband GNSS etc. Vertix 2S is a great alternative to 7X Pro or Enduro 2 and much cheaper as well.
Yeah exactly, very good points. The intent here was to compare an older watch (mimicking the situation 80% of us are in) and are thinking about upgrade. Is it worth it? What's the actual difference in practical terms. Enduro is for sure a beast. Never tried myself and not sure I can swing a $1000 retail price, but solid watch - if that matches ones needs, go for it!
I have the Enduro 2 and I was thinking of the Coros Vertix 2S however there are some features that I cannot live without: 1) Torch, 2) Spotify 3) paying from the wrist 4) navigation, the ability to click on the map and it suggests a route, pretty handy when I get lost. Price I bought mine for 20% cheaper so I cannot complain much. Well done for the video.
Hi, great informative video! Would like to note that you’re comparing a garmin watch (Fenix 6) that was released in 2019 vs a Coros watch that was just released in 2024. Not sure that it’s a fair comparison as Garmin has also made quite a few upgrades since Fenix 6. A more reasonable comparison would be Vertix 2S vs Fenix 7x 😄 Both great watches imo
Thanks for pointing it out - and again, I've tried to be very clear about that. Would love to be able to afford the watches to compare them, but I'm literally losing money running this channel. So at some point, I do what I can with what I have. And as I said, the question becomes more about what you get from an upgrade. I think the most fair comparison would actually be a garmin enduro vs. vertix
@@chahmeduzair The consensus amongst my running friends is that solar is mostly helpful outside of GPS recording activity. So on your day to day, it'll last longer. But during a race, the gain otherwise is marginal at best. Since the main reason to want a long battery is racing, I wouldn't myself pay extra for solar.
Yup - and of course, if you are happy with your Garmin Epix pro...good! Both solid brands! I was fine with my fenix 6 for what I was doing. 100+ hours is great, but not always needed (and even...almost never needed!)
I would appreciate coros pace 3 and apex review. running 100k with Garmin 265 and it barely made the finish. looking to upgrade my watch and mileage. This is a great video thank you
Will do! Although I think for you, you can either get a new watch, or run your next one faster! But more seriously, I had my watch die on me twice in races...not a great feeling! One time was even a solid 20 miles short! It's frustrating, and almost a safety/navigation hasard (the course was well marked so wasn't an issue, but I was really worried about a wrong turn)
You can't award the best navigation to the Vertix as it can only read GPX files. The Garmin can reroute you if you get lost, create a route on the go, get you to your starting point with a different route that the one you just ran... With the current Fenix you can use touchscreen with the map. You also have the Up Ahead function to indicate the next aid station or other POI. I'll never chose a Coros over a Garmin for navigation.
That's a good idea. There's the Fenix 8 also coming up. I'm sure both enduro 3 and fenix 8 are great watch. Would love to test them, but I don't know anyone at Garmin unfortunately (and I can't buy a $1k watch just to review unfortunately)
I use the Garmin Forerunner 245 for my ultramarathons. I have to charge it with a small portable charger after about 13 hours, but it recharges pretty fast. I put the charger in my drop bag and let it charge while resting at the aid station.
Yup - I used to have to do that with my Fenix 5 (after like 20 hours). It's a fine work around but i was so happy once I didn't need to anymore. It was 1 less problem to think about. My bigger issue at cocodona was that at 250, it'd mean more than 1 recharge. And since I only have 1 battery bank, I'd need to carry the charger around instead of relying on drop bag
I did a 100k at the weekend with a Garmin.... wait for it...vivoactive 4.....yes I also brought a charger, however, it rained and it failed to work so my watch died. Very annoying. Time to upgrade 😎
interesting. What's the issue with the watch face? I switched my to somethign that fitted my need, but curious the issue. I actually really like the knob but I can see how that can be a preference thing
@@runningwithsimon I just couldn't find any watch faces that gave me the data I wanted in a presentation I liked. Was annoying to compromise on something I thought was basic. I like that there's two brands that are good and we have choice to go with which we like. No monopoly is a good thing.
Yes, that's a good question! And yes, GPS only for both. I used them exactly how I would use them in 'real life'. I'd go dual-band only if I was mountaineering, or something where exact accuracy is critical. In this context, longer life was more important. Basically, the Garmin I left exactly how I've used it for the past ~20-25 100 milers, and I tried to match the setting for coros.
Correct me if I'm wrong - but garmin in reach is one thing which is great but different. But for a Fenix it has to go through service from your phone, right? But yeah agree with that.
You are correct. We use our inreach when we know we will not have a phone signal. My wife’s Garmin links to her phone and sends me an email. I can see where she is as well as some basic stats. She doesn’t have to do anything but star her watch and carry her phone.
Merci Simon! Comme je ne fais que 50 km (oui j'ai réussi mon premier 50 km) pour l'instant, mon Garmin est assez bon mais mon plan est de changer si jamais je fais des courses plus longues, c'est bon d'avoir des informations sur le Coros.
I do too, including in races. I upload the gpx to my watch and phone. Use the watch 99% of the time for navigation, quick check if I’m on track and or at junction. If I ever get significantly off track, I’ll take out the phone and navigate with Gaia. Bigger screen is helpful to find best route
? Every single road and trail UA-camr channel that I've seen reviews on discloses how they got the product, either free for the purpose of review or bought out of pocket. Maybe there's one I missed? But of over a dozen, I can't think of a single one. The "how I got this" disclosure seems to be pretty standard practice- as it should be of course.
The ones i respect do - you are correct on that. And maybe my language was too harsh. But many will "disclose" but it's buried. Sure, you go in the notes and you'll find it somewhere mentioned. But not nearly as upfront. Insta360 is notorious for almost asking folks to not say it... And they'll review videos and such. Reality is that for some, their channel is their revenue, and that leads to shadier practices.
Great video yeah I’d be interested in that so you can see how they compare like I have the Apex pro I think it’s supposed to have 40 hours. I don’t think I have that like he said anymore but enjoy the watch. I like it gives me what I need and I’m pretty simple so it keeps it simple but yeah I would love to see a review on like if you got like watch it similar to mineor even cheaper ones I think they got one called the pace or something see how that compares with the with the vortex I think it’ll be interesting
Thanks! Yeah I'm curious to try both the apex and pace. It's clear that the pace would not be a good fit for me during races. But on a day to day basis, just tracking my training - probably fine. And I'm sure it's the perfect watch for some (Nora had an equivalent watch for the longest time before ultra running and was perfectly happy)
Because this is a real race setting and not lab testing - I used them exactly how I would. So for both, it was "GPS only" - the ultratrac mode on garmin from my experience is not good enough. And using more system on either the garmin doesn't will eat more battery but the GPS only is good enough for trail navigation. I'd activate all systems only if I was mountaineering or something where precision mattered much more.
i feel garmin makes you pay to much for "premium" features that cost virtually no extra money for them , even up to limping their cheaper watches . Like the screen area of the instinct range , its a normal display under there , but they just cover a lot of that screen to make it less flexible ? The instinct with a totally uncovered screen would just outcompete their own more expensive watches. As long as garmin thinks they can keep pulling these shenanigans i'm not buying. Give me an instinct with an uncovered display and i might reconsider.
That's very true. And i think we sometimes also get caught up in wanting more and more features and/or the latest and greatest. I try to focus more on what the use will be, what are my needs today (and potentially what are my needs later so the purchase is 'future-proof). Anything beyond that, you pay. And I'd rather save that money to be spent on travel or something.
Never tried. I had their sensors for my bike - cadence and speed, and I think chest strap. It was fine for all that, but it's different than a watch. Can't really say.
For open swim actual distance have a look at what dc rainmaker did for more accurately track distance in open water when he test different watches in open water
Where do you send your Coros for repair after 2 years if you get problems? There’s nowhere you can send it, you have to buy a new one. Garmin you can send in for repair after many years. I have a Coros Vertix 2 with a broken button and Coros won’t repair it!
I can't get Garmin to replace my 2 year old Fenix 7 Sapphire Solar. Very disappointed. The battery not lasting long at all. I've already disconnected every alert possible to it. I have a 50 mi run coming up first week of November. I guess I'll have to pay through the nose and buy a coros.
I have the Garmin fenix 7 pro, and used to own a 255 and instinct 2x, all great watches but ive always wondered about the coros watches, my friend has one and loves it, so i have to give it a try, ive ordered the pace 3 and just waiting on it, if i prefer it, ill sell the Garmin and get some money back because they are so expensive and all i do is run lol 😂
The pace 3 will not be better than a Fenix 7 Pro. Probably closer to a forerunner 165. I'm testing the pace 3 right now - really nice if you don't need a bulky watch, but probably not great if you run 100 milers.
@@runningwithsimon I can just about run a 5k currently 😂 I jumped into the deep end of fitness watches too quickly, I wanted to have the best and it's a fantastic watch, I think its too much for me right now.
@@Cyborgon haha oopsies! The interesting part for me is that "best watch", and best "watch for me" aren't always the same. Now that I'm testing the Pace 3, I keep thinking "wow that'd be the perfect watch for my mom!". Sure I won't run 250 miles with it, but she's not doing that either. If it does the job and is 1-smaller 2-lighter 3-less expensive ... then it's the right choice!
Will you send me one? The point was more to compare what one gets from upgrading to a newer watch. Not sure the enduro would necessarily be a fair comparison - is it fair to compare a watch that retails at $1000 vs. $700? Fenix 7X Pro might be more fair.
This is not the best pair of watches for comparison it would be a lot more useful to compare the Corus Vertix 2 with a similar watch like the enduro 2, also all the running channels that i watch make it very clear whether they were given equipment or purchased it themselves.
Thanks for the feedback. I've tried to be very very very clear about it that I could have compared other watches but didn't have the mean. I could easily point out many channels that don't disclose sponsorship but won't throw dirt at folks.

@@alexshraib I could certainly find you some easily - I'm not only referring to watches. And there are company that were caught asking people NOT to disclose. A battery comparison of a watch that is several years old with a brand new watch can NEVER reflect reality. You yourself have commented that a LiIon battery is subject to natural ageing. I also miss a statement as to which GPS settings you used in each case.
Thanks for the feedback. I also commented that this is more to reflect a situation which is actually a more common reality to most folks - you have an older watch, and want to upgrade. What do you get for your upgrade. Is the difference better? Anyhow - I can see how you are not happy with the review. I'm sorry for that and will strive to do better.
Simon, absolutely love the channel but really disappointed with this video. I think your results would be very similar the opposite way had you used an old model/heavily used Coros and a brand new Garmin out of the box. Additionally, it seems really disingenuous to present this as an unbiased review considering you got it for free and getting kickbacks for purchases. I don't have any issues with you being supported by Coros, but this is absolutely not an unbiased or even fair (old vs new) comparison. You should change the title to "New Coros vs Old Warn Out Garmin" .
Thanks for the feedback, and I'm sorry to disappoint you on this. I've tried to be clear that I received it for free - literally any review you'll see online is in the same situation. The difference is that I'd be surprised if I even end up making the equivalent of $1 per hour I've spent making this video - whereas bigger channel make probably in the $10k... As for old vs. new, again the point was more to see what you get with an upgrade - mimicking a situation most of us are in which is you already have a watch, what do you get if you buy a new one. I never said coros is better than garmin. I didn't even say a single bad thing about my fenix 6. AND I pointed out that cost will be different so that could be a reason to go for an older watch.
I'm actually going to give it to my mom - perfect watch for her (and obviously, I only want what's the best for her)
Got the coros vertix 2, insane battery life, and so easy to use compared to suunto or garmin, love the content!
@@runningwithsimon you do look awfully good in Lululemon 🤮
Thanks for this review! and yes please for coros apex review :) I am only starting to do ultras - have always been a road runner/marathons and I never uses any watch before as I just use my phone. Thinking the Apex might be good for me to start with!
Welcome to ultras! Where we run slower but the food is better!
For everything I hear, Apex might be the perfect fit indeed!
Thank you! More coros reviews please
I’m rocking the Vertix 1 and it works flawlessly still. If it ever dies I’m definitely staying with Coros because I have had such a good experience with the original Vertix.
That's awesome!
oh wow that’s impressive , how is the battery life? And the software updates keeping it strong ?
@@enjoiventure The battery life is still great. It still gets updates and I believe I’m supposed to get another update for it soon. I’ve had it since 2020 and haven’t had a single problem with it.

Thank you so much for dropping this video! I brought my Coros Vertix 2s because of your Cocodona 250. Looking forward to use for my upcoming 100miler.
Hope you're happy with it! What's your 100 milers?
@@runningwithsimon KosciMiler down here at Australia 29th of Nov.
I had to switch during my race to "UltraTrak Mode" to conserve battery life, but it missed out 10km of GPS tracking after the race.
hi! are the altimeter and GPS accurate?
Hi Simon great review! Very informative in a real life scenario!
Yes please rev both other Coros watches!
Thanks, will do!
Thanks for honest review
Any possiblity of releasing new model by coros after vertix 2s?
I'll try to review the APEX too, which with the cheaper cost may be what a lot are looking for.
It's 65 days without any GPS activity. If you use GPS you'll get less days obviously.
I got Coros Vertix the battery life is AMAZING. Ran 100km with GPX man on all the way for 14 hours, still got more than half the battery life left.
14hrs 100k? Solid time!
I'm not close to 100 miles, but would like to do a 50 mile ultra next year with GPS and heart rate on... Yes would love for you to test the other watches in Coros line!!!
The Apex might be the right one - I'll try to get my hands on that!
Just got the Apex 2 a month ago. Coming from an Apple Watch its a huuugggeee upgrade. Love my Coros!
I bet! Do you miss the more techy / 'smart' aspect of an apple watch?
@@runningwithsimon Not at all. I rarely replied to texts from my Apple watch and usually picked up my phone so the basic Coros notifications are good enough for me
Wonder what the results would have been if Garmin sent you a latest model and you compared it to your old Coros?
Would love to compare newest to newest of course. I literally lose money with this channel, so I can't exactly go around buying new watches all the time...
The latest Garmins are better than the Vertix 2s. Even Coros admits it. However they are more expensive, especially if you pay for the sapphire/titanium models.
@radoslavstoev4550 how do you know that? And what model of garmin do you mean? Curious
As always. Top notch movie clips
haha thanks, much appreciated actually!
I think the most fair comparison would actually be a garmin enduro vs. vertix
Remember batteries degrade too. So give that margin too. Finally wouldn’t it be better to buy a solar charging version?
@@chahmeduzair The consensus amongst my running friends is that solar is mostly helpful outside of GPS recording activity. So on your day to day, it'll last longer. But during a race, the gain otherwise is marginal at best. Since the main reason to want a long battery is racing, I wouldn't myself pay extra for solar.
Never tried Coros, but pretty happy now with my Garmin Epix pro 2 😊 However it’s true that the autonomy of the Coros seems mind blowing!
As a Garmin user, also some friends from Garmin to Coros, your reviews already tell the truth.
I’ve never owned a Garmin, I’m sure they’re great. But I love my Coros pace 3
Yeah, I didn't have an issue with my garmin either. Needed more battery and got it.
Consider comparing the recently released Garmin Enduro 3 and to the COROS V2S. Especially focusing on software tools
Love my 245
Yup - I used to have to do that with my Fenix 5 (after like 20 hours).
@@adcashmo Oh no...! Ouch!
...I hate to be that guy, but does that mean it's not on strava?!
@@runningwithsimon haha actually 90% of it is on strava. I preempted its death so saved at 4% battery and therefore missed saving the end.
I just finished this experiment myself.
I couldn't get on board with the twist knob of the coros or the watch face designs.
interesting.
@@Simco_ Agreed about not having monopoly. I'm not as familiar with suunto, but i know some people that are happy with them
Simon, did you have both in GPS only or were they in dual-band?
Yes, that's a good question! And yes, GPS only for both. I used them exactly how I would use them in 'real life'. I'd go dual-band only if I was mountaineering, or something where exact accuracy is critical. In this context, longer life was more important.
Basically, the Garmin I left exactly how I've used it for the past ~20-25 100 milers, and I tried to match the setting for coros.
Great review, thank you. I wish I had seen this a week ago as I could have used your affiliate link.
Ah, don't worry about it. Glad it's helpful and hope you like the watch as much as I do!
Yes, please review other Coros models.
Thanks, I'll try!
Wish Coros had a live tracking ability like Garmin. I have the Vertex 2 but my wife for safety reasons has to stay with her Fenix. Awesome review.
Strava beacon is free and you can also just turn on location tracking inside Google maps.
@@leeshaw1899 Yeah it's a good feature. Safety first

I'd love to have a Garmin Enduro 3 or Fenix 8 to test. @garmin if you are reading...
Merci Simon! Comme je ne fais que 50 km (oui j'ai réussi mon premier 50 km) pour l'instant, mon Garmin est assez bon mais mon plan est de changer si jamais je fais des courses plus longues, c'est bon d'avoir des informations sur le Coros.

@@runningwithsimon Merci!
Yes Apex 2 review plz because I'm looking at buying that one :-)
I'll try!
Great video, I have been carrying my phone on my run. Something to think about.
I do too, including in races. I upload the gpx to my watch and phone. Use the watch 99% of the time for navigation, quick check if I’m on track and or at junction. If I ever get significantly off track, I’ll take out the phone and navigate with Gaia. Bigger screen is helpful to find best route
And Coros now has screen mirroring to aid with navigation, of course this could drain the watch battery a bit more than using Gaia on your phone.
Yes. More comparing reviews please,
I’d be happy with an Apex review as I’m considering getting it.
Thanks - will try to get my hands on one!
Would love to see the vertex and pace comparison!
I'll try to do that!
Garmin Epix no doubt. Battery is more than suficient for 100k or 100 miles , maps and navigation much better
yes please review the other coros watches
Thank you
What GPS settings do you use?
What’s you opinion on Wahoo watches?
Never tried. I had their sensors for my bike - cadence and speed, and I think chest strap. It was fine for all that, but it's different than a watch. Can't really say.
See if you can sweet talk Garmin into giving you the new Fenix 8 to try out 😉
Takes time to figure out who to contact on those...if you know anyone let me know, would love to review and compare for sure
For open swim actual distance have a look at what dc rainmaker did for more accurately track distance in open water when he test different watches in open water
I haven't tried the vertix in open water

Good stuff!
Great review you should review apex pro
Yup I'll try!
You should compare Vertix with the Enduro 2
Will you send me one?
The point was more to compare what one gets from upgrading to a newer watch. Not sure the enduro would necessarily be a fair comparison - is it fair to compare a watch that retails at $1000 vs. $700? Fenix 7X Pro might be more fair.
Between Coros and Garmin....Suunto. Cheers.
That’s what coach Brian from our podcast said haha!
You are right, a 5 year old Fenix 6 with an old and degraded battery should be compared to a 5 year old Coros and not a watch released in 2024.
Sorry, during the last two or so years I do not remember any reviews without a disclose.
Simon makes it incredibly clear how he got the Corus and also that these are the two watches he has thus the ones he reviews, perhaps you missed a bit of the intro?
@@alexshraib I could certainly find you some easily - I'm not only referring to watches. And there are company that were caught asking people NOT to disclose.
But look, it's not the point of the video. The video is about me reviewing the coros vertix. I disclosed, and what others do is somewhat irrelevant so you're right it's irrelevant to the video. I'll remove it.

Love the # !!!
“69%, nice”
I'll never grow up!
But sorry to disappoint you, I'll try to do better
COROS navigation sucks
