- A rowing boat that is fun and fast yet stable, safe, unsinkable & inspires confidence. Order here: www.ahoy-boats.biz. The TS515 has stabilisers to help you learn, which can be removed once you've mastered the basic skills. Lightweight, robust, rewarding and reassuring but most of all, affordable. Ideal for novices, children and adults enabling quick progression from beginner to master.

I row both the Edon TS515 and a racing shell and the two complement each other nicely. The Edon is great for places and conditions that would be hazardous for a racing shell (obstacles, weather, open coastal water, etc.). With the stabilizers off the boat is tippy enough for the real single feel. Since I usually row solo, I put the stabilizers on during cold water rules (sometimes the possibility of falling in is not an option you want on the table).
I bought one of these 3 months ago to see if I (60 yo) could learn to row on my own - I can only say what a great boat it is for learning when you don't want to fall in (live on a nasty canal). After 20 odd outings I finally tried it without the stabilisers and it was wonderful. One day I might go for a racing shell but even then I think I'd keep this. It's robust enough to sling on the roof and go out with the wife in her kayak down the beach and it takes the everyday training knocks & scrapes.
Thanks for this encouraging remark Patrick. Did you go for a racing shell yet?
We have this boat at our club and it's been SO useful. Some may not mind falling in, but (women especially) HATE it, especially on a previously industrial, tidal, Northern river! One novice has been in it about 3 times and has since progressed on to a normal racing scull - a lot quicker than me who went straight in a racing scull and rowed at half slide/blades on the water for 6 sessions!
Indeed crazypianolady, progress is fast in a TS515 Training Scull.
I like these boats, and if you really must, then get one. but I think you should learn from mistakes, namely the ones that make you fall in the river. Makes for a much more accelerated learning process as you need to learn quicker how to row otherwise you are gona be getting wet again. Floaty boats mean that it takes you much longer to learn how to balance a boat (arguably the most important part of rowing). I say give beginners a cheep single scull and let them fall in and learn from mistakes
There is a link now in the description so you can order one.
I love it! What is the price of one?
Yes of course, this is how I learned to scull but it teaches bad habits, namely sculling with your blades on the water and taking short strokes! Remember it is not practice that makes perfect it is PERFECT PRACTICE that makes perfect. One needs to learn to scull with one's blades just off the water the whole time and to take long strokes. At each end of each stroke the hands are well separated and it's difficult for novices to execute the feathering and squaring well in an unstable boat.
NIce boat; can the gates be rigged a bit higher? Water's not alwasy that smooth.
Height is adjustable. We had some boats provided with higher riggers once. We can do that again if customers ask for them. Have you seen our most recent offer? Go to: ahoy-boats.biz/post-pandemic-sale/
@JOHartmusic I see you're from the school of hard knocks! Perhaps some individuals might learn from falling in. e.g. How to fall in. But for each person seen returning to the boathouse wringing wet there'll be at least 5 who'd be put off ever getting into a single! You must see the bigger picture to encourage sculling. The TS515 scores BIG TIME over, stable, boats because it is fast and not too stable & you can remove the stabilisers & progress with small perceived increase in risk.
@stevel899 are they any good in water thats a litle choppy?
