- Another one of many firsts for this beautiful piece of music ive decided to give cliff most of the pics in this video since it is basicly his song more or less :) and i love the different solo they have
When Hell Freezes Over
Og song name right
This has to be the earliest recording of the song I’ve heard because the bass part isn’t in its final form here.
This is pure audio gold! Thank you for posting this!
Earliest recording was the furst time they played it at las cruces New Mexico yku can check it out on UA-cam it’s titled when hell freezes over
fun fact: james wasn't old enough to drink yet
The bass surprised me...
Cliff was a beast.. nothing compares👍
Sounds a bit like Hangar 18. Did Dave Mustaine actually write parts that Metallica later used in Call of Cthulhu?
yeap, call of ktulu and hangar 18 has same chord progression at intro
Actually, Mustaine composed the intro from Call of Ktulu and later used in Hangar 18
@@pardin3217 8 years later...haha, thanks for the info ;)
@@Izak80 You're welcome Bro hahahahah
This song just makes me imagine what would had happened if cliff and mustained had more songs in which they both wrote
I was under the impression they never played any of the instrumentals until the 2000s with Rob. I was surprised to find out they played Ktulu a bunch of times in the mid 80s. Cool!
@Izak80 Yes. The part used in the clean intro is the same scale and progression used in the intro of hangar 18, i think both work pretty superbly.
Awesome track by Metallica ! In his book ' The Call of Cthulhu ' H.P. Lovecraft mentions the book, ' The Golden Bough' which is a wide ranging study of mythology & magic in religion by Scottish anthropologist Sir James G. Frazer published 1890. It offered a modernist approach to discussing religion, treating it dispassionately as a cultural phenomenon rather than from a theological perspective.
H.P. love craft had a cool cat
Wow really? thats cool. I love Daves songwriting But i still prefer he were in megadeth because now we have 2 fucking amazing bands with fucking amazing songs
yeah, but Dave didn't write any of that bass... and this song is at least 50% bass.
@11METFAN11 To live is to die is all Cliff Burton and Hetfield riffs actually.
I know this 9 years old but I need to reply
The song is mostly made by james and lars cliff only co wrote the intro with james
@@chassy50 cliff wrote the main melody after both solos.
cliff and daves song
R I P amen
👌 MASTERPIECE
This was a early one as middle section of kirk is older one😊❤️
I love ktulu...
Enough of this who wrote what or needed to be done. The bands are touring together and have grown up since then.
11METFAN11 Yeah, its quite obvious when you listen to the songs back to back.
@jian2069 thank you! two ppl commenting the way REAL metal fans should...megadeth and metallica are two of the greatest bands of all time let alone heavy thrash metal...i recently bought the big 4 on dvd has anthrax, megadeth, slayer and metallica all playin with 45 minutes worth of backstage shit. it'll be in the metallica section at your local cd store (even tho it's a double dvd) I highly recommend it if you like both bands I assume you like antrax and slayer but if not megadeth & metallica
Yes indeed \m/
@LPstefan Nope this is with kirk hamster
kirk hamster

@@elj597 wahmmet
yeah dave did work with metallica in the early 80's!
You misspelled Cleveland in the title...
@11METFAN11 is the intro the same on hanger 18
ahhhhhhhhhh.
@11METFAN11 daaamn...
im still confused
how do they play ride the lightning stuff in 1983 when it hasn't been released yet, anyone bother to explain?
It might be a typo
Just because it came out later, doesn’t mean they haven’t written it
it's not a typo at all. Many indie bands loved to perform their new songs before their actual recording. FFwF, Creeping Death, When Hell Freezes Over(aka Call of Ktulu) were already out in 1983 and those were candidates for the next studio album. That's all.
Is it that hard to grasp that they actually wrote and played stuff before it was put down on an album???
Fight Fire With Fire, Ride the Lightning, Creeping Death, and When Hell Freezes Over (working title for Call of Ktulu) were all written in 1983. They premiered on Halloween '83 at The Keystone in Palo Alto, and up until the release of Ride the Lightning they played those four songs in their tours until the next album came out.
Cliff will always be the most amazing bass player of all time. Sorry Jocko!
@midnight347 Keep up tat attitude man. We need to bond together not drift apart
Metallica's song...
not 1983 ride the lightining wasnt made yet
bryce steven they had most of the songs done by this time they just didn’t release the album until 84. They did Disposable Heroes in ‘85 despite Puppets not being released until 86.
And 2x4 and other songs from load and reload was played in 1995
@zytigon and what is the world at now, i recommend you watch joe rogan occupy wall street opinion. The idea of government modernised and based on internet connectivity. Why are juries considered as peers in a court trial that lack cognitive ability..ancient shit.
The song was written by dave mustaine.... mainly ...
The clean intro part only
Nobody cares just enjoy it
Dave wrote the first minute, that's it, so that's not mainly at all
@@kowxley1793 it's pretty mainly considering most of the song is based around that riff
Metallica have a good bassist... Keep alive Cliff....
Someone should remaster this... :D
I was at this show right up against the stage between James and Cliff!
@11METFAN11 I'm so glad I found some ppl on youtube with my ideas about megadeth and metallica. they both rock..they both sold out for a period of time (even tho megadeth fans won't admit that, risk was a horrible album, united abominations, etc...) but the point is they rocked before and after they both breifly sold out so if you don't love both bands you're not a real metal fan, that's my oppinion...and black sabbath, motorhead, diamond head, misfits, all who influenced them are great also!!!
@11METFAN11 is this a version when Dave was still in the band?
rather not
